Hmm, in that case maybe it's just a silly American thing.

 

But, let's pretend for the sake of argument that the two-space thing became standard for ending a sentence / transition to the next sentence. Do you think that could then become justification for getting rid of the uppercase letter at the beginning of the sentence?

It would become standard after a while... To give a concrete example, here in Slovenia, some people don't know that the word for /desired, welcome/ is written like this: zaželen because EVERYONE says zaželjen and the latter form has always been frowned upon but I think that lately, things have changed a bit and so zaželjen is acceptable, too.

 

SO BASICALLY, things can still change and people could accept a new manner of writing. It'd just take time.
