You've all been very helpful, I just want to be thin :( I thought the way to do that was to eat little, but I don't want to become ill...

How can I lose weight?

I'm vegetarian and a very fussy eater. I love food but I want to be thin so bad, so what kind of diets work best for losing weight fast?

I think it's been mentioned, but exercise, go for walks, if you don't like that option there's different types of exercises you can do in your house. Not only do you lose weight but it starts to make you feel really good. To be honest if you don't exercise regularly it might be a bit hard and painful at first to get fit but once you break past that you'll want to do it regularly.

Dinner

This sounds lovely, thank you!!

I'm eating 500 calories a day is the reason for the low calorie need and I know you guys probably don't understand my need to be really thin but it's just what I want.

Are you a Northerner? Dinner for you could be different for me...

Molly, please don't do this to yourself. Being thin isn't everything.

The point of the thread is that I need some low calorie meal ideas so I can lose some weight to become thin?

I'm not starving, I have been eating. I do normally eat healthy anyway, but I'd like to lose weight so I decided on this 500 calorie thing.

Has anyone ever done a successful diet then?

First of all, this thread has really worried me. It has all the hallmarks of an eating disorder (sorry to speak so bluntly and in public on the thread - I'm actually unsure if this post is the best tactic to try and help, but I'll put it up here for anyone else to see who may feel similarly). People understand more than you realise, but it is that they understand why you are doing something, even though they don't understand the actual feelings themselves.

Do you read much? I really want to recommend a book to you. It's not a book that's going to revolutionise your life and stop you feeling the way you do, and it's not something that is specifically about dieting, etc, but it generally explains some of the issues you may be feeling and was written by somebody who used to feel exactly the way you do now. It's called Meat market: Female Flesh Under Capitalism and it's written by Laurie Penny ([ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meat-Market-Female-Flesh-Capitalism/dp/1846945216]Meat Market: Female Flesh Under Capitalism: Amazon.co.uk: Laurie Penny: Books[/ame]). It's relatively short and is cheap on the Kindle if you have one (£3.08) or about £5 in paperback. I will buy it for you if you would like? It will hopefully help you understand why you feel the way you do, and then maybe this understanding will help you deal with yourself in a healthy way. Please PM me if you would like me to buy it for you.

I have lost 3 stones in the past using a healthy diet. It's called the Lo GI (Glycemic Index) diet. It works by keeping your metabolism going, not cutting out specific food groups and doing regular exercise. I lost a stone a month for three months and I've not put it back on. That was about two years ago now. There's plenty of recipes you can use, including veggy stuff. But honestly starvation is not the answer. It becomes an obsession and your life becomes about not eating. Your well being declines, your quality of life suffers, your skin and hair and general appearance take a massive turn for the worse. You're looking at about £5 for the book (much cheaper if you buy a used version) [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Diet-Now-Fully-Updated-Permanent/dp/0753509180/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1370627666&sr=1-6&keywords=low+gi+diet]The Gi Diet Now Fully Updated : The Glycemic Index; The Easy, Healthy Way to Permanent Weight Loss: Amazon.co.uk: Rick Gallop: Books[/ame]

I'm not a northerner, I'm a midlander :P, I live right in the middle of England, I usually say tea rather than dinner but no one knows what I'm on about...

Those books look extremely interesting and helpful, and also thank you so much but you don't need to buy them for me! That's so kind! I will probably look into buying them, I hope they can help.

I hope I don't have an eating disorder, I really don't think I do... All I want is to be thin... Not anorexic.

That's why I'm uncomfortable with it!! I want to weigh less and be thin! I just need to find a diet that can help me.

The Gi diet, how much were you eating a day, if you don't mind me asking? Did you have to cut back a lot, or were you eating the same amount, just different foods?

You've been very helpful already, thank you! And thank you again for offering to buy the book, that's extremely sweet of you, but too kind, I couldn't do that!

The Gi diet looks like it's had fantastic effects, you look great!

Your BMI is 19,4 so that means you're already thin.

Thanks, I do a lot of walking, plus Im quite a fast walker so I'm not just dordelling along. But thanks, I'm gonna try and find some more sports I like.

I do enjoy badminton and football, not so good at football though :P

I'm being extremely brave here but I'm going to post my weight... Which ill probably remove in an hour or so...

I'm just about to head out for the evening so I can't post much.

I was eating much more on the diet than i was off it. it was what i was eating. I also wasn't ever hungry when I was on the diet. It didn't even feel like a diet. Whenever I mention it I feel like people will think i am pushing some kind of fad diet that isn't healthy or doesn't work but it's worked for my family and it's based around eating from all of the food groups and doing a little bit of exercise. You eat food that your body finds it hard to break down so that your stomach is always working, that way it burns off the fat without you starving. You have to properly starve to get results (as if you don't starve enough your body clings to the fat as it knows it is going to need it - like when you see the African children who are starving with big pot bellies) and if you properly starve the damage is extreme. If you want to lose weight then I recommend doing it this way because it's healthy. The book goes into the full science behind it, explains how to portion your meals (how much of each food group) and fully explains everything you need to know.

As for your current weight (I deleted it from the quote as you said you will be deleting it), you will be surprised to hear you are on the lower end of ideal weight, technically ever so slightly just under. If you feel you aren't slim enough all that you probably need is toning, and you won't get that from starving. Use this to see where you fall in the ideal weight category, or google it yourself: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/ideal-healthy-weight

I'm off out but feel free to PM me if you ever need to talk about it not on the board. Same goes for absolutely anyone else.

I'm no guru, of course.

O.o if I did the calculation correct you weight as much as me. Size 8 is nothing woman! That is already thin.

On a sidenote, sport is also healthy as in that your body produces more good hormones that will make you feel less down and less stressed.

it also helps you lose weight because it boosts your metabolism (so does good sleep) and with a better working metabolism you can eat even more as now and will still lose weight because your body is more efficient.

I hope I don't have an eating disorder, I really don't think I do... All I want is to be thin... Not anorexic.

Look, I'm a little taller and 8 stone 2 and really wish I could hit your weight. Being skinny is really not all that it's cracked up to be.

Clothes can often be an odd fit... thin-shaming is a thing, yes indeed. Quite often those that are thin are said to be not a 'real woman' etc.

I'm a little concerned that you'd want to lose weight from that really, is it anything else or just the not feeling happy with your own body?

I would agree that toning may help matters out. Drastic diets at 15 aren't a good idea.

I also think that looking good isn't really about your weight or anything, moreso how comfortable you are in your own skin and with your body. Though I understand this is difficult to think about now, and I am having an awful time trying to explain it. I guess if you feel confident about yourself it shows to other people? Though I am shocking with this myself

This whole thread could go in the 'I'm glad I'm not a girl' thread.

(which is not to say that boys don't have issues too, of course)

Has anyone ever done a successful diet then?
It hasn't been much of a diet but I lost about 4 kg by eating more healthy food (ie. more vegetables, brown rice/bread/pasta). I lost 2 kg just by not eating chocolate for a month.

And I exercised regularly. Seriously, though, you won't shape your body by starving yourself - all you'll achieve is a weak body and you'll feel tired all the time. Skin and bones, nothing else. It's better to do some exercise like running or squats, jumping jacks, weight lifting. It won't make you beefy but you'll lose fat, gain some muscle and you'll be able to eat a bit more because muscles need energy.

Okay thought I'd post a little update!

The 500 calorie plan lasted about 2 1/2, 3 weeks. I said to myself that 500 was maximum and was eating about 300/400 calories a day. I was becoming pretty weak and tired AND I didn't get the results I wanted.

At the moment I'm eating a balanced diet and running and walking as much as I can. Although I still am not happy with my weight and how I look.

Just figuring a free, quick way to lose weight again now.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'd probably still be doing the 500-a-day and being weak right now.

I'm still plugging the low-gi diet. Worked for me. 3 stones in 3 months.

Doubt you'd lose that amount though as you aren't anywhere near the size I was when I went on it.

I'm sure you edited this, I remember originally after Troxley's link about all the negative search results involving 500 calories a day diets, you said thanks and claimed you didn't realise how dangerous it is (Therefore implying you wouldn't be going ahead with it, you may have even said you would no longer be doing it).

What happened to that attitude?

It's such a bad idea to try and loose weight fast, especially at a young age.

Just eat healthily and exercise regularly and that's all you need.

Otherwise you'll loose weight and then pile it all back on again when your metabolism slows down.
