Paradise Acoustic Tabs

Featured Replies

Ok I saw a video a couple of days ago with Chris playing at a small venue. He gets his guitar and proceeds to play the first verse of Paradise before changing to the Scientist. (This is when I realised they basically use the exact same chords.) Anyway I decided to try and decipher what Chris would've played had he finished Paradise. Here are the results. I could use some help though. Thanks to Kapone for The Scientist chords. Thanks To Charlie17 for some help.

ok. yeah. it makes sense you would be able to play the first verse in the key of c, and likely the whole song with the c note open. That said, and this is not bad at all (in my totally subjective opinion), there are a few things that stand out where we disagree. The chorus, although it does basically repeat, actually uses two different chords for the fourth chord of the progression. The first four bars end with a C chord that lets the low E string ring open. Perhaps Coldplay just lets Guy play an E note on the bass to create the chord, but it definitely a slash chord of E over C. and in the 8th bar, the C chord is played with a G note on the open E, like you have tabbed in the intro. We might have a few other minor differences in how we here the chords, but nice job man. I would never have thought to use an open c string with this one. But low and behold, the A#add9 chord that's used a bit in this song contains a C note indeed.

i think you are right about the chorus. I was thinking that at the time but i discarded the idea anyway I'll edit the tab. Also post whatever chords you think should replace them.

I'll just write the name of the chords, and..I think they could all probably all be voiced open as you have the tuning with the high e tuned down to c. I kind of like the sound the Bbadd9 with the C note played an octave higher which probably needs standard tuning. But it's art and we all have different ears. The chords in the second verse are substantially different from the first Ok. Here are the Chords: (Yours are mainly in agreement but there are a few exceptions)

Intro: Gmin/Cmaj/Dmin/Fmaj x2 then A#maj/Fmaj/Cmaj

Chorus following into (same in all choruses): Gmin/A#6/Fmaj/E over Cmaj (just open c chord with the low e ringing open)

Verse 1: Dmin7/A#add9/Fmaj/C (with or without open low e)

wfollowing first mini-chorus, if you will, the chords after the words "every time she closed her eyes": Dmin7/A#add9/Fmaj/Cmaj

Verse 2: A#maj/A over Fmaj (X-0-3-2-1-1)/G over Csus4 (3-3-3-0-1-1)/A#maj/Dmin9 (this chord is played when the word "reach" is sung. (X-X-0-5-6-0) try this chord for sure)/Cmaj

When he sings "life goes on..." Gmin/A#sus2/Fmaj/C

Every tear... A#maj/Fmaj

Night the stormy night...A#maj/Fmaj/Cmaj

In the night the stormy... A#maj/Fmaj/Csus4 then Cmaj

Chorus...

La la la la lalala...Gmin/Cmaj/Dmin/Fmaj

lying underneath those stormy... A#maj/Fmaj/Cmaj x2

Outro from album version: A#maj/Cmaj/Dmin/Bmaj with a G bass note x2 minus Bmaj at end.

That's how i do it when i feel like sight-reading my own notes cause it's a lot to remember. It's also what I played in that sound cloud clip. There is a nice isolated vocal on the internet for the song which might be fun to play along with. Cheers.

That Sad face thing was actually literally colon followed by open parenthesis. Maybe I"m the first person in history to use the sad smiley as actual punctuation. haha

I will admit that i have no idea what those words mean. Could ya tell which chord name is the same as one of my chords so i know what to play haha

Happy to. I'll just write the tab for each chord. you can likely tell which chord corresponds to which by the bass note (lowest note) of your chords to the letter of mine. For instance, the first chord, which you correctly tabbed is a G minor chord. the lowest note of the chord is on the sixth string/3rd fret, a G note. the 1st fret of the 6th string is F. Sixth Fret of the 6th string is an A# or Bb (for reason involving the scoring and notation of music, we have two names for the five notes of A#,C#,D#,F#,G#, ((C sharp =D flat) and it is something that's caused me plenty of headaches). 8th fret of 6th string is a C note. 10th fret of sixth string is a D note. The chord you tabbed as 5-x-7-7-6-0 was likely meant to be X-5-7-7-6-0, which is the same chord (voiced an octave higher) than the chord you tabbed 10-12-12-10-10-0. Both are Dminor chords. the one on the tenth fret is much more chris martin-y.

Gmin- 3-5-5-3-3-3 Strings = E-A-D-G-B-E

C- 3-3-2-0-1-0

Dmin- (you're way is just fine too) 5-5-7-7-6-5

Fmaj- 1-3-3-2-1-1

A#maj-6-8-8-7-6-6

A#6- 6-10-8-7-6-6

A#add9- 6-X-8-7-6-8 (if you can use your thumb for the sixth string)

Dmin7- 5-5-7-5-6-5

Csus4 (with G bass note)- 3-3-3-0-1-1

A#sus2-X-1-3-3-1-1

I think that covers them. seems like a lot, but they are almost all just variations of regular barre chords. Your tab is quite good, and just substituting a couple chords wiht what i wrote, it's spot on. Impressive, especially if you aren't too too familiar with those chords and their names. Hopes this helps out. Cheers

  • 3 weeks later...

I don't have my guitar on hand at the moment, but EADGBC sounds good. From watching the video, it looks like the verse goes like

(9,11,11,9,0,0) (577600) (022100) (799800) So far I have that. I will work on the bridge and chorus when I can. The commas in the first chord are there so you can differentiate where your fingers go.
