Historical infos :D

Okies ;)

The oldest settlement of Prague was in the Stone Age, but the Slavs came to the Prague valley in the 6th century........................... The most famous age was Middle Age - Prague became the imperial residence of king Charles IV. and during his reign it flourished and grew. He established an Archbishopric, founded Charles University(1348), promoted the construction of Charles Bridge and St. Vitus Cathedral(it's amazing building, I LOVE it :stunned: )......................................................... At the end of the 16th century Prague regained its cosmopolitan character again when it became the seat of Rudolph II., who invited artists and scientists there(Tycho de Brahe, Johannes Kepler...)....................Then came the Thirty Years War...recatolization.....germanization  (sorry There!) Prague wasn't capital of the monarchy, but at the end of the 18th century it became the centre of Czech cultural life when Czech scholars and writers began the process of national revival :smug: ............................... In 1918 Prague was the capital of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. In 1939 it was occupied by German troops  (sorry There again! :D ). After the Prague Uprising against the fascists the town was liberated by the Russians in 1945. Then it was under soviet control  , but on 17th November 1989 the "Velvet Revolution" began democratic changes in our society. The whole process continued with the splitting of former federal Czechoslovakia into two independent states - on 1st January 1993 - now is Czech Republic and our neighbour Slovak Republic. Prague became the capital of the Czech Republic!

I know it's too long(and this is only SOMETHING from our history :D ) but the history of Prague is very connected with history of our state.... :D

Do you know something about the sighseenings in Prague? :D :D :D

uau, Denise! i think you ' ll have a great honeymoon!!! ;)

well, it´s only a plan. If it gets too expensive, we may change plans. Nordeste is another good idea, although I never wanted to go there... :/

i have been in Salvador once... (argh!!!) didnt like...... :dozey:

round nr.2:

The dominant of the city is the Prague castle - the seat of the president, the monumental complex of the castle includes three courtyyards and over 700 rooms among which the late Gothic Vladislav hall, and the newly redecorated Spanish Hall and Rudolph Gallery are the most renowed.

The most wonderful building(for me ;) ) is St. Vitus Cathedral, here's the royal Crypt which contains the sarcophaguses of Czech kings and queens.

The oldest prague's bridge is Charles Bridge over the river Vltava. And in the two ends of the bridge are the Bridge Towers.

Charles university - the oldest uni in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Old Town Square - the best known building here's the Old Town Hall with a horologe with the statues of the Apostles.

Wencleslas Square - the heart of the New Town and present-day Prague. Here's a lot of banks, department stores, shops, hotels, cafés, restaurants, cinemas...

The National Museum - contains historical and natural history collections.

Vyšehrad - once the seat of Czech Princes. Not far from this is Slavín Cemetery - the burial place of famous personalities of our cultural and political life.
