Chris Martin Solo Album

Featured Replies

I haven't been keeping up with Coldplay since the release of AHFOD, but I was wondering what is next for Coldplay? They said they didn't want to be a "rock" band anymore, but it would be really sweet if Chris Martin could do a solo album. His ear for melodies is phenomenal and I would die for him to do a little acoustic/piano solo album. Anyone think this would be possible in the future at anytime?

Not a chance. If Chris even decided of doing a solo album, and the band nor Phil actually cared and agreed he should (which will NEVER happen), he would never make a "little acoustic/piano" solo album. If anything he would make something to the effect of Justin Bieber's Purpose (I mean pop) + a tad acoustic guitar in the atmosphere of a song. I highly doubt he'd go the indie pop piano/Ingrid Michaelson/Colbie Calliet route.

I thought the same. Think about what songs of other artists Chris keeps lending his vocals too - if he ever were to go solo (which I doubt will ever happen), he would do synth-/electro/dancepop.

Yeah. Never. He has always said it and I will trust him. As the principle song writer for Coldplay, I think he already gets what he wants on most the albums, especially with ASFOS and with bringing in Stargate on AHFOD. Not saying the boys don't contribute or that they have totally stopped caring--but at this point Chris has written so many tracks, hundreds we probably haven't even heard of. Where else would he go?

If he went solo and tried doing that stuff it would just be too weird--and possibly legally messy considering everything he has done as a Coldplay stamp on it.

My greatest fear would be that on future records, Jonny Guy and Will take a backseat and let it be Chris' pop joyride. In essence, that would make them a studio band. But every album cycle Chris says it again: "We are very much a band."
