1. This is actually what I've been worried about, and even more so after the speech. This makes me a little worried to be honest. Chris already hinted in 2016 that they might not make full-length albums anymore and instead go with alternative ways of releasing music (he said he'd be "surprised if there was another conventional Coldplay album") and then this year: "It’s our seventh album and it’s the end of that first stage of the band. I think what the future holds is us doing things slightly differently and trying to create music in ways that is graceful and honest." Which sounds as if they might say goodbye to the idea of full-length albums, Eras and cycles. I really hope not. First of all, that might mean less physical and more digital releases, which I as someone who likes playing and collecting CDs find unpleasant (and the rise of digital versus physical single releases has already seen the death of the B-sides). Secondly, a full-length album is so much more than just a collection of +/- 10 songs. At best it is a unified, coherent suite that flows like a single work of music (AROBTTH for example), at the very least it comes with its own artwork, themed tour, style, era, and all these things that make the whole bigger than just a sum of its parts.
2. All right, the first round is over ! Something Just Like This (Tokyo Mix) 6 Miracles (Someone Special) 2 And clearly you won't see Something Just Like This (Tokyo Mix) upon that list ;) These are the remaining songs: All I Can Think About Is You Miracles (Someone Special) A L I E N S Hypnotised I vote for Miracles (Someone Special) again.
3. They could be soundchecking them because they are used to soundcheck them from older tours or because they simply enjoy digging up the occasional oldie. But it clearly isn't the kind of music they want to make at the moment.
4. This trying to distance themselves from their older eras/sound by either not playing older songs despite many people even requesting them or playing some of the bigger hits in a half-hearted manner simply because they have to makes me very sad too. Are they aware how much they mean to a lot of people ? Are they aware that their fanbase grew on people who bought and loved those albums and concerts back then, exactly the kind of people who would not have bought or or love MX, GS, AHFOD or the AHFOD Tour setlist if those had been the band's first releases ? I'm not saying they should keep their sound the same, but a little more appreciation for their actual masterpieces would not hurt. And i agree this "Anything is possible if only you believe in love bla bla" has become a little bit too forced...
5. I don't think it's the record company that makes them do anything. A band of their size whose contract is even about to end is not at the mercy of their record company. Sadly, this really is the kind of music they (especially Chris) seem to want to do these days...
6. For me, A L I E N S and Hypnotised are my two favourites. AICTAIY has an interesting concept but I feel the studio version fell a bit flat and didn't quite live up to the song's potential - the one the one hand deliberately muddy, blurry production and then on the other hand the live-sounding cues from Chris detract from it for me, and I think the epic piano bridge is a buried in synths that are too loud (live version had a much better mix). But song-wise definitely one of the great 3 of Kaleidoscope EP !
7. :D I just used exactly that wording in my post in the Oldplaying thread, then I come here and see you wrote this - what a coincidence, LOL Yes, it is a bit disheartening to see that none of the great songs of Kaleidoscope was performed live properly or more than once. Instead when they do choose to put a new song in the setlist, it is arguably the weakest track they have written in the while (LiB). Whatever goes on in their heads...
8. I agree BUT arguably Kaleidoscope EP was, after a long time, the first step in the right direction again. 3 great songs out of 5 - now this is a ratio I haven't seen in any of the post-2008 releases !!
9. I just have to say this: It's so nice to finally see more life in the forums again ! I doubt they will start their own label. I know Radiohead did that, but Coldplay have never had that cynical/negative view of their record company (or record companies in general). I think their relationship with their label was always pretty good (maybe a bit strained during the delay of X&Y, all right) and Chris often included them in his short thank you speeches at the end of Up&Up.
10. Remember the epic elimination games we did as were waiting for the release of LP7 ? In my view the AHFOD Era is not yet over, but since everyone seems to be so down and missing the tour already, why not distract ourselves with a few games ? Here's a release we have never put through an Elimination Game yet: Kaleidoscope EP ! The rules are as follows: Each round lasts around two days. In that time you have to vote for the song you want to see eliminated (i.e. the song you like least in the list). The song with the most votes during each round will be eliminated from the list. The last song left in the list after several rounds will win. Here is the list - vote away ! All I Can Think About Is You Miracles (Someone Special) A L I E N S Something Just Like This (Tokyo Mix) Hypnotised I vote for Miracles (Someone Special).
11. I think a psychedelic album was what we were all hoping for when we saw the AHFOD artwork and heard the AOAL riff for the first time. And then we got Stargate-ruined produced cheesy pop instead...
12. Careful - these are often fake/unofficial
13. 316 and 320 GBP respectively :O
14. The seller is actually the record label Fierce Panda itself, they found it in their offices. What a find ! :D
15. Listening to the cover of De Musica Ligera reminded me of how good they could be if they adopt a rockier sound again. I really hope they leave their dancy pop phase behind them now and do something wildly different for a change.
16. I extracted the videos of Chris's end of tour speech and their final bow and group hug from Twitter. Here are the links if you want to download and keep them (Warning Sign: Tears might come streaming down your face :sob:). 17. Young The Giant
18. Nice find ! But so expensive...
19. Yup, that was the plan ! That's why I want to schedule this one in November still.
20. From my perspective, the Era isn't over yet. The Era will not be over until Live 2017 is released, the live discs are always part of their respective eras.
21. This sounds quite intriguing. The end of the first chapter, from now on full of surprises ? Hm... Mobile Link: https://twitter.com/coldplaying/status/931020394999504899
22. So sorry for the absence of the Listening Party during October !! We still wanted to do that acoustic playlist (new and improved !), especially for those who missed it last time - it would be cool if we can manage to schedule it in November. Here is a Doodle Poll - let us know when you have time: https://doodle.com/poll/vcau8d958c9h74i4
23. The A Head Full Of Dreams Tour. Has. Officially. Ended. :broken_heart:
24. All you ever wanted was love But you never looked hard enough It's never gonna give itself up All you ever wanted to be Living in perfect symmetry :)
