  1. Some personal thoughts on the songs that were mentioned: I love Speed of Sound, and it is one of the songs that made me a Coldplay fan. It has a beautiful melody, and the lyrics and the way Chris sings them speak to me because I often view the world in a very similar way (in wide-eyed amazement at life and the universe around us). It feels like an anthem about the wonders of the world that I can identify with and that makes me want to go out there and live life intently. In short, it means a lot to me :) And I would almost certainly not be here if it weren't for Viva La Vida. That melody, that epic string accompaniment...I would call it the most memorable song of the 2000s and for me, this is the ultimate song for celebrations/victories/feelings of extreme happiness or bliss of all time. Oldplay songs I dislike for example include Til Kingdom Come, Swallowed in the Sea, How You See The World, Amsterdam, Everything's Not Lost, Reign of Love, Yes (among others).
  2. While I strongly disagree with the labeling of us Oldplayers as "whiny", I agree with the rest of your post. Today I woke up, the song was stuck in my ears and I hated it. Listened to it again, the catchiness of the melody positively impressed me yesterday evening but the more I listen to it, the cheaper it sounds to me. And so sad to see that good Jonny solo wasted on this piece of EDM-trash.
  3. LOL. But yeah, it's true unfortunately...
  4. Lol, that would be cool but we'd be shouted and cheered over by the band's new target audience.
  5. @TheSavage_ I would hope that you are right, but I have to say I'm more pessimistic and wouldn't be so sure about that...after all, they (especially Chris) have said time and again the music they make reflects who they are now and (bewilderingly and sadly) where they always wanted to be. And this is who they currently are, to the chagrin of many who loved their old music. But I think at least the latter statement is not true - I'm pretty sure the four people who wrote Parachutes, AROBTTH and X&Y would have laughed at their current output back then and not aspired to do that. It's not like they had a secret plan "Let's get famous by doing meaningful, emotional music so that we can then play EDM and synthpop for the rest of our lives". Or maybe, they had that plan and just have been pretending to us for 10 years. LOL, no.
  6. So there is this massive campaign on Twitter to get SJLT into the charts and purchase it for other people and what not - seriously ?? Why promote that song so much ? I'd rather people do not associate this kind of music with the name of Coldplay, I'd be disappointed/embarassed if this becomes a Nr. 1 hit in Coldplay's history...
  7. OK the ADHD comment up here was unnecessary but other than that, I would agree with what lennyrott said about the target audience and the Chainsmokers. I don't understand why, the older they get, the more Coldplay seem to try and appeal to a teen audience, and out of the teen audience more the "YOLO, I gotta party" subgroup most of all. They started out with deeper lyrics and music that shared their views on life and the world and appealed to especially the more sensitive, reflecting people, now they desperately want to have their songs played in clubs, it seems.
  8. I was actually planning to "organize" a new one for the month of March :)
  9. There is a good quality one on the FB page of ColdplayCorner right now
  10. You know what's also disappointing ? Jonny's riff at the very end (the one with distorting, wailing sound) sounds so good, a song of its own could have been made around it, it would have fit well a song with a bittersweet vibe for example. Instead, they wasted the riff on this....
  11. Distance from the Chainsmokers is what he meant, and yeah, he's right... It's a bit annoying that the name of Coldplay now helps these two undeserving jerks to greater fame and success.
  12. Yeah, but Lovers in Japan was a Coldplay song and Lost+ was not made for a Jay-Z album, that are the differences...
  13. There is good and bad in every genre. An example Officially, it says "The Chainsmokers AND Coldplay"
  14. Your post made me laugh :) I can totally understand that even though I would rate this song a bit higher than ASFOS and XMTS for example. But yeah, it's really sad. I've been listening to a lot of X&Y the past two days, and today I was listening to a live performance of "A Message" repeatedly. The difference could not be larger, and one cannot believe it is even the same band. It's not just the genre, it's also sad to hear how Chris has changed in singing style. The beautiful crooning that was his trademark has given way to a more hip-hop/rap-like "short" singing style, if you know what I mean, he no longer draws out words but stops them abruptly, that's not nice.
  15. @a2iel - I doubt that, it is already on the preview tracklisting for the Chainsmokers' new album. Someone posted a screenshot from Apple Music (? or something) earier.
  16. Soooooo....what do Oldplayers think about today's release of the Coldplay-Chainsmokers collaboration "Something Just Like This" ? (I feel like I know the answer, but I'm asking anyway...)
  17. If anyone wants the mp3 file, feel free to write me a PM...
  18. Finally listened to the studio version as well ! I thing it's good for a song in the EDM genre and the melody is very catchy. But this is not a genre Coldplay fits in or a market Coldplay should try to explore, to be honest...the lyrics are not the most profound either ("Batman with his fists"..."somebody I can kiss, i just want something like this"), also the beat/hard instrumental part are very generic club beats like I seem to have heard on the radio a million times. Still, i guess the outcome could have been worse and I would rate it higher than ASFOS....
  19. I think I've never seen you swearing before :P So sorry for all you guys who tweeted daily and with so much enthusiasm for this...you all did a great job !
  20. So the song just had its live debut ! Hm ok, in all fairness not bad for the EDM genre, but Coldplay...? Also, camera didn't show the band until like the last minute of the song.... Epic Chris stage crowd jump i hope we don't have to hear this song in the AHFOD Tour 2017 though....
  21. Jonathan Ross, ugh If @oldiefan is watching this.... And the global success is Adele ? Coldplay is a global success too :P
