I agree with the criticism on AHFOD in this article, but stylising it to be a kind of "Coldplay disease" that the band has always suffered from right from the beginning is a lame argument I hear far too often nowadays.

At a Christmas celebration with some friends and some of their family, I noticed to my great surrise an AHFOD CD lying about among the opened presents. I asked if anyone here was a Coldplay fan. A girl said she got it from her brother who likes Coldplay and said " I know half of the people like this band and the other half don't, and I belong to the latter". Her brother heard that and said, maybe we can exchange it against another CD. In the end I got asked if I want it, but I didn't wanna grab somebody elses present of course so I just said "I only like their earlier works, what would I do with that CD ?" (which is also true, of course, as all of you who know me know :D) Finally they settled on looking for the receipt and exchanging it at the shop...

It it not the interview itself that I did not like (once again - well done Batman, and thanks for bringing it to us !) but the framework conditions for the interview given by the band's management/indirectly the band itself, too. I am grateful that this interview was possible but at the same time...honestly, I can't see how I could rephrase it in a better way, so I'l just cite from my previous post: "Yes, they get loads of interview requests every day but imho you are right to be a tad disappointed when all the time they have for their LARGEST fan site in the web is a...20 minute interview of selected questions with half the band. Yes, they have busy lives but even the busiest person on earth could devote more than that every two or three years. I know it is not common among rock stars but I am a little disappointed of Coldplay here." Don't forget that without their large fanbase, the band would not be where they are now. I know this closeness to fans is not how rock/pop music in general works, but what is wrong with questioning a "system" like that ? Why do we always only have to agree with everything about the band ? For me, fandom also means benevolent criticism. Without benevolent and most importantly, constructive criticism fandom would be meaningless. I have always abhorred the idea of an uncritical fandom to anything.

I agree with you a hundred percent there, I have always said I do not condone any Nazi comparisons here but I only founded the thread so I have no control over what words people choose. But really...be it Oldplayers or Newplayers, it's not necessary to cross lines like that here (and I have seen those kinds of words coming from both sides). For at the end of the day it's still only music we disagree about, keep that in mind everyone ! Merry Christmas !

Oh, OK. Well, welcome then. I just read your comment "Disgusting" and thought you had come here to bash the thread. It is natural you will find more criticism here than in any other part of Coldplaying though, and many of us are not really in agreement with the newer musical direction. But yeah, the main focus used to be on celebrating Oldplay.

Btw, about "the management vetoed it": I do not doubt this is true, but only because the band themselves condone this kind of behaviour. No it's OK, I get your point and I never meant to diminish the accomplishment of the forum or, in any way, Thalia ! It was just a question that didn't get out of my mind. I still think it was necessary to mention it though, and now it has been largely cleared up in the preceding posts.

Thanks for your answers ! So it was the band who apparently didn't want to answer this question. Weird...I can't really understand it. They want to be close to their fans but then they hardly like to answer any questions that go beyond standard ones (in fact, some of the interview questions are somewhat personal and I'm really thankful for you asking them. Great job!) Weird in general that so many rounds of vetoing precede such an interview. Especially when they were not even provocative or something. I would have thought that the guys see themselves still as three ordinary human beings, not rock gods. I have no doubt they are still very nice guys, but I can't help feeling a little bit alienated by a behaviour like that. But I digress.... Thanks for the interview, nonetheless !

Can't believe that the Coldplaying interview in the end did not include the winning question (What would the Coldplay of 1998 think about the Coldplay of 2015) of our big voting. What's the point of voting if the winner is ignored ? I'm not saying the other questions were bad, but that the winning question was not included is strange to say the least.

I did read that, and don't get me wrong I really appreciate what you all did, but still - what was the point in deciding what the best question is if it the one and only question that most people voted for is simply left out then ? It was not even crossed out by Debs, so it would have been allowed to ask ! Let's say I'm a little sad about it.

One question though: What happened to the winning question of our voting, what the 1998 version of Coldplay thinks about the 2015 version of Coldplay ? I see that time was very constrained but hey, of all the questions why was the winning one left out ?? (Although I hope that all four members will answer it, maybe in written form, on a later time point)

Yeah, exactly... And trust me, there will be enough people using their votes to vote for stuff like AOAL or Viva La Vida that will be in the setlist anyway because that's how deep many "fans" knowledge of Coldplay goes. It's like those radio callers. When a song is being played 20 times per day already and it is wishlist and someone is on the phone and wishes for the same. Makes me think "Why the hell didn't you use your call to wish for something that never or rarely makes it to the radio, instead of wishing for something that would have been played within the next two ours anyway ?"
