A Head Full Of Dreams (Title track)
I think this is an example of a studio version being better than the live version. I like this song a lot, and one of my favorites on the album. Digging the disco of it.

X Marks The Spot [HIDDEN TRACK]
I happen to love Army of One, but once this comes on I skip the track. I usually love Coldplay's hidden tracks and miscellaneous tracks not on the album and such. This song I don't even think is a grower. Belongs in the same pile as Princess of China and A Whisper.

Army of One
Love this song! One of my favorites on the album. The problem with this track isn't Army of One, it's X Marks The Spot, which I just can't like. I skip when it comes on and I feel I may always will. I used to do that with Magic but it grew on me and now I play it. Now I'm skipping this track once X Marks The Spot comes on.

Hymn for the Weekend
Coldplay has been making a lot of songs lately that are growers (grow on you). This one is no exception. I do like the song. At first I couldn't stand the lyrics (seriously Chris, feeling drunk and high. I expected more from you, I mean. You wrote A Rush of Blood to the Head for Pete's sake), but upon further analysis, even that line goes with the song (as much as I wish he put it in a different way). Not a bad track and certainly better than X Marks The Spot, the only track I skip (disappointing that hat one is on Army Of One, which is a great track).

Up&Up
I loved the liver version of the song. I thought to be a lock-in favorite on the album. Now, I'm not sure. It's a great piece but I thought the live version was better than the studio version.

Coldplay if now officially the Biggest Best Band on this Planet!!!!
It's a beauty. I was a bit worried with the direction of the album after AoaL but after hearing that and AHFOD (song) I'm a bit more at ease. The recorded versions of those songs will sound even better. Now I'm ready for the song named after Chris' biggest obsession...Birds. Lol

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH. Never would have known without the wonderful people here, including yourself :)

Why Coldplay?
Anyone at any age anywhere can know what good music sounds like :P I'm not much older than you (born in 1997, I'm 18). Coldplay appeals to any age :)

Personal Coldplay Song Interpretation
This site does a fantastic job in reporting on and discussing Coldplay news. I feel more division in this community forming since Mylo Xyloto. (New Coldplay vs "Oldplay"). I think, as a fan site/forum, we ought to talk about why we are fans, not what's wrong with someone else being one. Arguments like "you can't be a fan if you don't like their new/old material/a particular album" come to mind. So as a follow up to my "Why Coldplay?" question, I wish to discuss any and all of the Coldplay material. I ask, what is your personal interpretation of any one (or multiple) of their songs. Not what you think Chris Martin meant when he wrote it, but rather what you feel they mean to you. Why is that song/are those songs so meaningful to you? How do those lyrics/musical composition apply to your life? Get as personal as you would like, from the gist to the details and let's bask in the beauty of all of Coldplay's songs.

#AOAL - Please post your review
Here's the thing. Before, I used to be able to listen to a Coldplay song and immediately fall in love with it. Now, I have to grow to like it. I'm growing to like this one, just like I had to with some songs on Ghost Stories and especially MX. That worries me for the band. I love them. I love their music and I support them but to go after the lowest common denominator worries me. Like stated above, without Chris's voice, it doesn't sound like...them.

Adventure Of A Lifetime
It's not just AROBTTH. Every album VLV and backwards was lyrically brilliant. Again, I love Coldplay and I'm not an Oldplayer, but what Coldplayer can't see that their lyrics aren't as they used to be. Still good music, still powerful music, but it's lost a little touch of magic.

Adventure Of A Lifetime
I second this. I miss Chris' masterful lyrics from the AROBTTH, X&Y and VLVODAAHF days. MX and Ghost Stories had their moments (O (Fly On) is lyrically a masterpiece, or Up With The Birds). This song sounds great, ache is is great as always and the lyrics are alright. But they aren't masterful.

Adventure Of A Lifetime
Interesting. I like it, reminds me of a sort of ASFOS and Mylo Xyloto and psychedelic music. I would've liked to hear Chris' voice more. The instrumentals almost drown him out.

How did you discover Coldplay?
I discovered them when VLV (the song) became popular on the radio. Apple used the song in one of their iTunes commercials back then (to which Martin would thank them much later for in the Steve Jobs memorial in October 2011). It took the course of a few years to really listen to every song they ever released (and subsequently download almost all of them). Becoming a Coldplay fan was a slow process for me when it really shouldn't have been. Life just kept happening and I loved the band but only had a few songs I had heard from them. I would hear a new song (or rather a song from them that was new to my ears) and fall in love with them all over again. My listening to them and discovery of the band's songs exploded at the same time I came out and went through a lot of emotions in a period of a few months. That period of time in my life was an emotional and spiritual renaissance. They helped me in a period of time in my life where I was just starting to accept a key facet of my being as well as discovering more of who I was. I may have discovered them in 8th grade when my teacher would play the song Viva La Vida every morning before class, but I discovered the connection they would have in my life a few years later when more and more songs spoke to me on a personal level as I went through the most important transformation and renaissance in my life. I discovered Coldplay, and then Coldplay helped me discover myself. For that, I will always love the band.

Thoughts on recent "Dreams" news.
Update: I wonder if Amazing Day will be on the new album

Fan song theory time!
Fly On is one of my top favorite songs of all time! Thank you for correcting him :P

Fan song theory time!
This! Completely agree! That's why so many love this band. Chris IS a lyrical genius IMO and is partly because of this ambiguity.

Fan song theory time!
I completely agree her. I hope AHFOD is not a concept album. Many people will call me out on this but I think my favorite Coldplay album is X&Y, each song is emotionally powerful to me and tells its own story, exactly why I don't want a concept album. It would be great to have an album sort of like X&Y (with lots of B-Sides please lol).

Fan song theory time!
I'm glad someone addressed this album with an interpretation like this because I too believe it's a concept album. I do think that the O part in O (Fly On) is important to mention. Keep in mind that both his kids sing in O and O (Part 2/Reprise). His kids are speaking to him personally saying "Don't let it go", meaning that as he is going down the path of moving on from his love, there's still his kids telling him they need him and that that love can't be let go of completely. There is still a reason to stay back, perhaps not for his ex, but for the beautiful kids created from the love he had with her.

Why Coldplay?
For me, Coldplay has helped me through many difficult times in my relatively young life. First and foremost, Chris' voice is simply amazing and I would agree with a statement above that it is one of, if not the best singing voices in contemporary music. Second, I would disagree that their lyrics are cheesy. I mean yes, a few songs in MX and GS weren't the best lyric-wise, but that doesn't mean that they can't be relatable. Third, I would also say that their melodies, instrumentals and overall feel is better than much of the modern day pop music that my generation primarily listens to. Finally though and most important, there are so many songs though that I have a personal connection with because it perfectly matches what is going on in my life or what I'm feeling at a particular time. Square One and "you just want somebody listening to what you say, it doesn't matter who you are" helped me to come out. X&Y (arguably my favorite album) had many songs that I related to when going through my first love, the song A Rush of Blood to the Head as well. Prospekt's March when I felt alone. Don't Panic when I wanted reassurance when dealing with homophobic parents. Us Against the World when I felt it was my boyfriend and myself against everyone else. Songs like Paradise, Viva La Vida and Up With The Birds for more upbeat moods. Some songs for more deep thought and philosophizing (Glass of Water). No matter what's been going on in my life, Chris and the gang have been there. This is not to say I don't listen to other bands (Keane's Disconnected exactly explains me and my parents, The Fray's Shadow and a Dancer explains my current relationship). But somehow, Coldplay has always been there in some of the most emotional and impactful times in my life and will continue to be there to be one of those most influential bands/artists in my life. As stated above, they are the soundtrack of my life. The beauty of Coldplay is that they can be the soundtrack for many people's life's because of a combination of factors, including their lyrics to which we connect to so well. I've once been told that music is emotion. Chris and his gang does such an excellent job in connecting to our emotions in our own ways.
