  1. For me the British have always been better at writing music. There are some American bands that sound interesting, but overall there just isn't the same culture of quality here that there is across the pond. Plus America is too mired in hip hop and cRap music to ever foster the kind of environment that makes good bands successful in Europe.
  2. The reviewer is still pissy Hillary Clinton dropped out of the race, probably. "If only she had stayed in a little longer... Obama might have forfeited! I'll let my anger out in this Coldplay review."
  3. How old is that Nirvana song? Shouldn't they be playing that on TV Land between episodes of I Love Lucy and Sanford & Sons?
  4. Noooo, politically speaking this would be an absolute disaster. Remember that politicians would take advantage of this and claim they're the "chosen ones" or they have some direct line of communication with God to become world leaders. I think the ideal situation is either what it is now (with competing religions) or that everyone would be agnostic. The reason I say agnostic and not atheist is because I believe there needs to be some basis for morality in society, and when people don't have religion to look to for it, they tend to want to make the government the arbiter of ethics. That places too much faith in human institutions.
  5. *gasp* that's Cedric!!! You're like... the hero of this forum. And appropriately handsome, as well. :D
  6. Define God. The question of randomness in the universe is similar in my mind to the debate between Calvinists who preach predestination and other denominations of Christianity that think we have the ability to change our destinies. If the universe isn't random at the most basic levels, then we are just cogs in a gearbox. Our lives and thoughts are predetermined like the Calvinists claim. So for me, it is entirely understandable why God would allow the universe to be random at least in some ways... maybe this has to do with his desire to give us free will?
  7. Totally right, gmalool!

Oh yah, how could we forget the other Jamie! But we'll need another lady to balance this out a little...
  12. 90% of his 35,000 posts have the rolling-eyes smiley. :D
  13. Sweet, I hope they're interviewed by Leno too. He's a good guy, but I don't watch his show too much (unless Coldplay are on :P )
  14. Saffire replied to melanieau's topic in The Lounge
Hello mister. :wink3: Now all we need is Mel... and the trifecta will be complete!
  15. Probably guacamole... which I'm about to make a batch of right now!
  16. Is this another thread where ColdplayCold tries to prove how manly he is? These are great!
  17. dcbc, the reason we don't like this is because it's the SAME tripe we've been reading in the majority of reviews ever written about Coldplay (positive or negative). It's like the reviewers have a single checklist they're working from: you've got to mention Chris is a millionaire, that he's married to Gwyneth Paltrow, that they sound like Radiohead, that it's music for unsophisticated bedwetters. It gets old after a while, because they don't actually criticize the songs themselves. That's the art, and it's what counts. I don't care that there are people who dislike Coldplay. What bothers me is they all seem to have jobs writing music reviews for major publications and periodicals. It's proof there should be more diversity in this field. That's like sending a bunch of men to review the latest Sex and the City movie or a bunch of women to go review a Bond flick.
  18. I love how he goes on for half the article about how terrible Coldplay are, then says, "The most obvious similarity is with Radiohead." I agree, Radiohead ARE terrible! :D And to say Coldplay aren't "challenging" music to get into, and this therefore makes them poor - guess what, I'm willing to bet I listen to FAR weirder music than this guy does. I listen to strange electronic bands from the early '90s, Brazillian Jazz from the '60s, Techno/Rave, purely instrumental guitar (El Ten Eleven), System of a Down, Incubus, Royksopp, etc. I don't care how obscure music is. It's not a point of pride for me. Either I like a song, or I don't - I don't consider who the singer is married to.
  19. That's Liv Tyler. She's related to a rock star.

You do? Pictures, please! Mel, nobody whips Jamie except on his birthday!
  21. Saffire replied to melanieau's topic in The Lounge
lol, Jamie's just in euphoria from getting to talk to Chris and Will. He'll be back down to Earth eventually.
  22. Saffire replied to melanieau's topic in The Lounge
lol oh come on, Mel, you just like seeing guys beg you! But for the record: it WAS a pretty hot pic.
  23. Well yeah but I mean... I still think he did well because if you listen to the radio in general, everybody talks fast on there. Even Jo Whiley and Will were talking fast. That's because time is money for the advertisers.
  24. As far as I'm concerned they're #1 because Lil' Wayne isn't real music. <--- Is snobbish. And proud.
