  1. You've been reading too many Daily Mail headlines.

  3. I don't think that'll happen. I think we'll just default and China will have already sold off a lot of our bonds to the next loser. But it will definitely strain international relations. I think of it like a neighbor who's constantly taking out loans to add sun rooms, wings, and pools to his house. The "War on Terror" is a gaudy hot tub in America's front yard that we'll regret buying.
  4. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100224/ap_on_re_us/us_plane_crash_texas_1 Holy crap, they breed like rabbits, don't they? :P Steal, steal, steal! Sue, sue, sue! Gimme that money!
  5. Well Mark, economic forecasting is a strange thing. It's clear at this point the writing is on the wall for western democracies. The only question is WHEN it will happen? How much longer can governments keep this massive ponzi scheme going? That's impossible to know, but the architects of our financial system knew it would happen - only they're long dead, so they don't care.
  6. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/New-home-sales-hit-record-low-apf-2245141272.html?x=0&.v=1 Myes, it's just one more thing for that Recovery to deal with! :laugh3: It's the equivalent of saying "This snow storm is so horrible... it's just one more headwind Santa Clause will have to overcome, on his flight around the world." Anyway, heaven forbid home prices fall. We don't want any negroes moving into OUR neighborhood! Buying OUR cheap 3,000 square foot homes!
  7. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704240004575084853361540506.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_sections_world This is what happens when a government is forced to default on its debt (although that hasn't happened yet with Greece). It will soon happen to Britain, Portugal, Spain, and the US. Only it will be even more dramatic and catastrophic. You can only leech off the productive class so much before you start to destroy their wealth-creating power. Government is like a cancer that grows until its host begins to die. EDIT: And of course, blame it on Capitalism - :laugh3: Your rights to others' money? What a buffoon.
  8. Is there a Mayo Clinic in Sweden? Didn't think so. When the government makes something "free", it is effectively monopolizing that sector of the economy, which lowers incentive to improve quality and reduce price.
  9. Now for some hot Olympics athletes! http://www.homorazzi.com/article/hot-olympic-athletes-men-vancouver-2010-shirtless-sexy-ranking/ Just a few from that page. :D
  10. The Canadians and many American politicians argue that Canadian healthcare is a superior system because it is completely socialized (rather than being only mostly-socialized like the American system). Yet Canadian politicians routinely come down here to America so they can have access to better doctors and hospitals.

  15. Right, because nobody has a right to be angry at the government. Nobody has a right to feel indignant, or even lose their mind, when the government harasses them at every turn. Just bend over and take it. I feel so sorry for this man, and so sorry for the victims of the IRS, who you never hear about in the news. Does that make me crazy? I don't sit at the popular kids' table, but at least I can identify aggression with greater clarity than you ever will be able to. EDIT: This guy sums it up nicely. We should feel sympathy for this man, and none for the IRS agents. But it's clear suicide and/or self-defense isn't a mentally-healthy way to deal with the problem, simply because Leviathan Inc. is too big for it to have any effect. He was driven to do this because he assumed the government was supposed to be a moral agency, when he should have recognized that it isn't. 17. Am I the only one here who prefers summer olympics? Ah well, at least Michael Phelps' mug isn't plastered on every wall. *shudders*
  18. Never underestimate the stupidity of the masses, yearning to be free. And I'm glad Obama's sticking to his guns on this. I can't wait for my free healthcare! Next up: Ponies for all!
  19. Of course. Believe everything the government tells you. And you're all raising some great questions. If he couldn't pay his taxes, why didn't he just sell his plane to pay them? After all, he was probably retarded. He probably didn't realize that flying a plane into a building would kill him. He probably didn't realize that you shovel food into the same hole you use to speak. Seriously? Is this the best you fools can come up with? The IRS probably had a lien on his plane, you idiots. EDIT: Sorry for the name calling but it always amazes me how people instantly rush to the side of Government, without questioning anything they say. It's so bad, they view the government as the only rational actor, while individuals are clearly stupid, blind, and retarded. EDIT2: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100219/ap_on_en_mo/us_people_wesley_snipes_taxes Jeez, finally someone sensible contributes. A voice of reason - spoken by a Hollywood actor, no less.
  20. Not sure I buy this. Either he did it for the purpose of letting them collect insurance, or the federals set the fire when they discovered his motive. Remember, the goal is to make him look insane, or fringe. He was neither, he was simply fighting for his and our freedom. And he didn't have much to live for - if you read his suicide note, you can see the IRS has reaped what they sowed.
  21. See, this is the amazing/counterintuitive thing about economics that most people (strangely enough) aren't outraged by. Technology and mass-production have enabled us to produce the necessities of life in such abundance, that the price of EVERYTHING should constantly be dropping. And by "price", I mean the number of hours the average worker must work to earn the money necessary to buy something. So back in the 1930's, the price of a chicken dinner would have been something like 2 hours of work - today it's closer to a half-hour of work. The cost of a pair of shoes dropped from 8 hours of work, to just 3 hours. And so on and so forth. But, miraculously, something counter-capitalist is happening; we need to work more hours, just to be able to afford basic necessities. How is this possible? Certain things are actually rising in price. Focus on what those things are - college education, housing, food, taxes, medicine... all these things are in industries with limited or zero competition to drive down prices, or they have been affected by strict government regulations. I'm a firm believer that without government, the cost of living a middle class lifestyle would fall so quickly as to make it so that everyone would only have to work 3 days a week if they so wished.
  22. No because cell phones emit a type of radiation that is shown to not affect biological processes - the wavelength is too long, so the radiation just passes through cells and DNA without causing any damage, just like visible light does.

  24. Ideally both parents would be at home raising their kids. But if one parent must be out working, then he should spend as much time with his kids while at home as possible. And there are ways for a woman to contribute to the family income without being away from home. People are starting to realize this lifestyle of living beyond your means, and constantly being in debt... just isn't what life is about. We're about to see a great shift in what people consider "average" or even desirable. Smaller house, shorter hours, more family time. Modesty.
  25. Was it a government school?
