  1. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Jobless-rate-tops-10-pct-for-apf-563122944.html?x=0&.v=8 Okay, so we're reminded the economy is recovering! Three times in this article, no less. Great news. But apparently it's not recovering rapidly enough to create jobs... I don't know about you guys, but I clearly recall the chapter in my economics textbook that explained why "explosive growth" is required to create jobs in an economy. It was right next to the chapter that said printing money helps things. :laugh3: I'm thinking it's time for more stimulus. We should start really lobbying Congress and Washington, and let them know we mean business! More, MORE, MORE. Keep spending!
  2. Whenever someone says "public"-this or "public"-that, just think about public restrooms. That's what socializing something does.
  3. If it's private, what has Labour got to do with it? The government can't micromanage something and then claim it's been "privatized". The current British government has greater practical control over the citizenry than did Hitler at the height of the Third Reich.
  4. I thought the purpose of government was to help the poor?
  5. What's a breast? *click* OH MY GOD *puke*
  6. I love reading stories like these. The health-care bill is to be paid by a 5.7% federal surtax on those making more than $500,000 and couples making more than $1,000,000. Hopefully once inflation hits and this includes a lot of new "millionaire" small-business owners, many of them will consider leaving the US altogether. I've never seen a country shoot itself in the foot so effectively. Oh wait, strike that, England.

  8. I think the sun goes through cycles that cause ice ages/warm ages. So think of it like the stock market. There are ups and downs that occur on a daily basis, and if you zoom out, you'll see even bigger ups and downs. And you can keep zooming out to see huge ups and downs (recessions). So there can be rallies within recessions. It depends on the length of time you're talking about. But the theory with complex systems like the stock market or weather is that there is a "regression to the mean" which means data tends to return to the average over time. It's hard for an outlier to continue for very long. This is why in stock trading, we have what's called "stochastics", you can see it on the bottom of this chart here: The smoother wavy line near the bottom represents the change in the stock price versus its immediate previous moving-average. So when the line is near the top, that means the stock is more likely to fall in value. When it's near the bottom, that means it's more likely to become more expensive. This is just based on probability, so it's not always an accurate indicator of the future.
  9. I love how their party's own site sort of tiptoes around the fact they are bigots. I mean there's nothing wrong with being curious about your family's heritage, but it ends up becoming irrational and creepy when you begin to feel "proud" about your "race". A better (and more productive) way to be preoccupied with "race" is to breed purebred dogs for sale. I just wish they wouldn't teach their kids to feel special. It's like that Dr Seuss story about the sneeches with stars on their bellies. Nobody cares.
  10. Polar bears are evil creatures. I would post photographs of their attacks on innocent humans, but the imagery is too gruesome for most. They deserve everything that's coming to them.
  11. Great post, Wendy. I think the reason politics is so irrational is because it starts from an irrational premise. All politics is: 1. "I will take something from you, and give it to another person." 2. "I will make something official" (when there really isn't such a thing as "official", it's just an idea) 3. "These are the rules, if you break them I will hurt you." Politics is like a gun, and whoever gets control of the gun has a lot of fun for a while. But eventually the struggle ends up with the gun changing hands. One day, somebody will actually shoot the gun, and all dissent will be lost forever.
  12. This is being made into something dramatic and huge, it's not. There are thousands of flights every day, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
  13. My family owns a beach house right on the coast. I'll let you guys know the second the ocean makes it to our back porch. Which shouldn't be for another 2 or 3 million years.
  14. At least we don't eat soggy cardboard and strange birds like you guys do.
  15. They've run out of laws to write?? Heavens, no! Get back to work! Quick! We need more ways to beat people, lock them up, and take their money!
  16. lol that's a funny way to put it. Right now the only woman who does that for me is Anna Torv. *swoon*
  17. I think eating cannabis (rather than smoking it) can bypass the potential cancer-causing aspects. Heroin (in small doses) also has a great many potential medical uses.
  18. Where does the NCDC get its funds from? And has their budget increased faster than global warming since 1998?
  19. This is a major effect of Democracy. It helps to have an attractive person leading a mafia organization.
  20. Wendy have you heard of Deng Xiaoping? Look him up.
  21. I would force them to listen to "The Hardest Part" by Coldplay on repeat. :D
  22. lol, the funny thing about the Holocaust bit is that it doesn't matter if it happened or not. The British government could decide to commit another Holocaust starting tomorrow if they wanted to, and there's not a damn thing you Brits could do about it because you haven't got guns to defend yourselves!
  23. And when you lay on your deathbed, having accomplished nothing in life, you'll think to yourself: "At least I have clean hands."
  24. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20091024/D9BH4G780.html A great article about the 100+ banks that have failed so far this year, and how the FDIC swoops in and tries to sell off their assets (their reserve fund is getting anemic as you well know). This was a central topic at the Mises Institute Circle I attended in Greenville, Nick. The FDIC is the next big bailout to occur. And in fact, there's a quote in that article: The "glimmers of hope" are all in the financial markets, not the underlying economy. Of course, prices will go up and wages will follow later due to inflation. But the key point here is there is no job-creation. The government's huge "stimulus" package didn't create a single job. My guess? It's all downhill from here... short like a madman. Leverage. Christmas will be dark this year.
