Hey dude, Awesome story! That sounds amazing, I wish I could've been there around the time of the band's beginnings. Do you have one of the promo CD or vinyl promo versions of the EP? Either way, it will still be worth quite a bit, but the 12" is quite valuable in particular. You can compare the different versions of the EP and see which one you have here. It sounds like you've got one of the promo CDs, and that you've got a fairly valuable one with a cool promo sticker. I'd say that you could sell it for £50-£100, possibly even more if you'd really like. Good luck with selling!

Hypnotised - first song off Kaleidoscope
Idk what you're listening to, but there's definitely some electronic stuff in there. The opening melody is a synth itself.

AND WE FINALLY HAVE SOMETHING PEOPLE! Although just a tad disappointing. But an announcement is still an announcement. 5 tracks, including SJLT, is a bit less than we were expecting. And imo Hypnotised is okay, not as good as everyone else seems to be amping it up to be, but still okay. It's quite unnecessarily long, it gets kind of bland and too drawn-out in certain parts. It does remind me a bit of lots of different eras of the band, most notably MX and AHFOD obviously, some parts remind me specifically of Amazing Day. It's got a cool, special kind of feel though, instrumental definitely sounds like it could be by someone else like a synthpop artist or someone similar (not the lyrics though, they're some typical good old meaningful/meaningless Chris lyrics which are currently standard for the band). I guess it's just ok, and hasn't strayed as much from AHFOD as most of us would've hoped, but as others have said, we should expect a change in direction from LP8, not this. There's still hope for the three other songs on the EP. Reminds me of Alien Radio from MX, could possibly be something to do with that? *Hypnotised*, not Mesmerised

Damn, I thought they started touring again at the start of 2009. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

Kaleidoscope EP
Yeah same, like they did with PM they're going to want to release a solid while before the next show, because I assume they'll have changed up the setlist a bit and stuff. Since that will probably almost definitely happen (hopefully ugh!) we might be getting an announcement in the next couple of weeks! Please Coldplay hurry tf up and announce it already!

Oh haha lol. Very accurate though.

OMG WE'VE NEEDED THAT. It's funny seeing old band memes. When's this one from, 2010?

Well, which songs/albums of the band's do you consider not to be pop music?
-
Kaleidoscope EP
Hmmm... well in regards to your first comment, that's exactly what I'm saying. The people, like me, who don't wholeheartedly appreciate AHFOD don't just dislike it because we "hate mainstream pop", it can still be pop music and we can still appreciate it, but AHFOD is just not very good anyway imo, whether you label it as mainstream pop or otherwise. People who really do like it are fine, I don't care. This doesn't really have anything do to with people's opinions, more just when people are calling those who don't like the album close-minded. Again, this is isn't a different argument to what the fanbase has been having ever since the album came out. When you're saying that the band isn't exactly a pop band, I disagree. The band always have been and currently are a band that makes straightforward pop music, whether it be with rock or electronic influences, or different production styles. No doubt about it. Probably the best example of that not necessarily being true is about half of VLVODAAHF, and perhaps some of their earlier years, it was more soft-/pop-/art-rock. But even then, it was prominently pop music. And again, I'm saying that not all pop music is bad. The majority of music out there, "mainstream popular" (as in on the charts) or otherwise (seriously - so many people think that just because a lot of artists are "indie" or relatively unknown that it can't be pop music) is pop music. The earlier years of the band are pop music. The difference between then and now is the style, the actual songs themselves, the production and the instrumentation. And I just find that the quality of that stuff now isn't as good. That's it.

Everyone, this is the same discussion the whole fanbase has had before. It's nothing new. While I don't think it's completely terrible, it's definitely obvious imo that AHFOD is their worst album. Again, as we've already heard countless time before, people who don't completely appreciate the album aren't necessarily just doing so because it's a more mainstream pop direction (although some people do, and it's us fans who use sense that aren't just criticising it for the sake of doing so), it's just that it's not that good music, in the sense of pop or otherwise. I just feel that the album is kinda uninspired, generic and boring, with a few good tracks and moments; but overall, quite lacking, especially compared to previous albums by the band. I also want to point out something else - the band has always been prominently a pop band, but the instrumentation and style has changed over the years. Primarily it was more rock/soft-rock influenced and it's shifted over the years to more pop-rock, then they've started to use electronic instrumentation, and now here we are today with more-or-less of a combination of that. They've always been a pop band, but for better or worse, have changed the style and instrumentation.

No, it's not a mistake. It was definitely sold at those prices, but obviously the sellers weren't aware of how rare and expensive it was and thought that it would only go for cheap. How wrong they were. I absolutely WISH I had a chance (and the money) to buy one of those. Are there even any that are currently on sale anywhere online?
-
= Coldplay Record/CD Collectors' Thread =
Well, while you can click on the date next to "last sold" to see further sale details, I guess it must be true. The two sales there were a few years ago though, and I would definitely assume that those sellers had no idea of how rare it was. But if I saw one, in mint condition going for that price, I wouldn't hesitate to get it straight away, that's for sure.

Thanks for the reply, I do have the 7". Bought it recently through Discogs and was curious about the supposed limited-ness of it. You can see the comment in the release history by clicking the "Edit Release" button at the top-right corner of the page. It was made 7 years ago, and it says "this was limited acc to ad in NME". Tried to find something online about it but found nothing. It is definitely the original 2005 release, not the Singles Boxset one, it directly matches the Discogs release page for it. Sounds perfectly fine.

Coldplaying's history
That's awesome, I wonder who Anchorman is. And that's exactly my point, to really find out everything you have to dig deep to find all of those past little things.

= Coldplay Record/CD Collectors' Thread =
I'd like to ask a question about the Talk 7", for anyone who has it or knows about it. According to Discogs, it's Limited Edition, and in the release history comments someone said they labelled it as such because it was said to be limited in some "NME ad". Can anyone verify this or does anyone know about it, if it's really limited at all?

Coldplaying's history
Lol ok, so that's where that started. It's funny because on the most recent page of that thread, the whole "caption these band photos" thing is still going. After all of those years, what it started as with those users who probably haven't been on this site for years is still continued in the exact same way with us new users. Cheesy, even for something like this, but still though. Represents what I cherish about this site. And that's kinda interesting, you wouldn't happen to have any of their posts, would you?

Coldplaying's history
@jc90 That project sounds awesome! I would've totally done that. Ugh did I HAVE to miss out on all these awesome things? @Captain Crieff Thanks for your post! I just spent ages reading through the Loldplay thread, but I couldn't find the first Jonny-cake post that started that joke. Do you know where it is? But that thread is pretty awesome, it encapsulates the activity of the site back then and how we dream for it to be the same now! Also, who was Reilly, and what was that whole thing about? @coldplayisawesome Thanks so much, your post is epic! Have we actually found out who Prospekt, Anchorman and the Oracle are/were? I've already known about Roadie 42 being Miller, but I had no idea about the others. I've found recently that as a relatively new fan (GS era) and also a hardcore fan, that there's so many little things in the band's history that, while there was lots of word about it on the internet when it happened, you now have to dig around to find it and that it's really only the fans who have been through this stuff from the beginning that know about EVERYTHING. Because really it's only places like Wikipedia that have a detailed history of the band, and there's so many little, and even not so little things that Wikipedia doesn't have. For a lot of these things, Coldplaying has been almost the only way to find them out at all. Like for example, I only found out recently about how they teased and announced the ETIAW single release with the cryptic videos and titles and stuff through that HUGE ETIAW thread here on Coldplaying. And because those YouTube videos are unlisted and there's no mention of that on Wikipedia, Coldplaying has really been the only way to discover that stuff. Things like that. But the things is with this site, is that I find, along with most of these forum-type websites, the user interface to be quite confusing, and so to actually find things like these you have to dig deep and look everywhere to find out all of these cool little things, which is another reason why I want to create this huge history of the site. With the Oracle, what do you mean by "questions about relationships", and why were people criticising Debs about it? And don't worry, I absolutely loved your post - the longer posts are what I adore reading! For me, I remember becoming a fan around July 2014 and reading the Oracle on their website. I thought it was so special and cool how they did that and all of the questions and answers were really awesome. And after that I realised that the general consensus with GS was that there was a bit of a drop in the activity of the fanbase around then, and so it's kind of interesting for me to look at the two different perspectives I had of that era, and looking back on what it was like for me. Thanks guys for your posts, keep them coming everyone!

UGGGGHHH c'mon Coldplay! We've been waiting too long for this! I've been checking the subreddit everyday, specifically hoping for it to appear at the top of my front page like F YES! But no, not yet... In the meantime, all Coldplayers who have been on this site and experienced it's history over the years, head on over to the Coldplaying's History thread. It's been a little dead the past couple of days, so le'ts keep on going! I'd really love to see as much in depth stuff about this magnificent site's history and how CP fans and the fanbase has evolved over the years and over the eras as possible, that would be awesome.

Coldplaying's history
@jc90 and @iamsue , thanks for your contributions! They both sound really cool, and they make me feel nostalgic even though I didn't experience them... even just thinking about those times in the band's history is so special. I remember coming across the "WE FOUND THE BAKERY" thread a few weeks ago, that was pretty awesome. Also @jc90 , what is the Postcards From Far Away project? @iamsue , I miss #Roadie42 and the Oracle so much (when is the Oracle going to come back!?), hopefully they'll be back soon. Was the Oracle actually active on this site? Or do you just mean their involvement in general? Also, Roadie42 is Matt Miller, not Mark. Miller is one of their crew and photographers. Who is epiccccc. And to everyone else: come on people! We need more awesome posts about this website! Don't be afraid to go deep - PLEASE, mention as much as you can, because it's just so special when all of those little things, all those memories are brought back and can be shared to everyone else. Also when has ownership of the site changed over the years? Feel free to answer that in your posts on your time during Coldplaying's history!

AHFOD Tour Edition 2 CD Australia & New Zealand
I have the CD too and I also noticed this when listening to this version and seeing if it was the same as the GSL2014 CD version. After also listening to and watching videos on YouTube that people had posted, the GSL2014 CD version is the actual Enmore Theatre one. They probably just wanted to put something on this Tour Edition that wasn't already on GSL2014 and so they took the GSL2014DVD version and labelled it as the Enmore Theatre "remastered" version, instead of simply putting the ACTUAL Enmore Theatre version on it again. But I only found out that this version was from the GSL2014DVD from this thread, I before just assumed that they took it from any random concert they played in 2014.

Yeah, I don't think they're going to release a flat-out protest song. It'd have to be watered down at least, or something similar to Politik or Violet Hill as mentioned, which both successfully tread the lines between blatantly and harshly criticising someone/something, and being too sappy or cringey. They're both great songs in that sense... and in every sense really! ;) Oh, and for anyone who missed it: Calling all Coldplayers who have shared their love of the band on this magnificent website over the years, new and old! The comments about the subreddit and history of the band in this thread are in reply to a (quite lengthy, I will admit, but special and inspiring!) comment I originally posted at the end of page 22, which has now been moved to another thread, the "Coldplaying's history" thread. Let's all collate as much of Coldplaying's history as we can and make these times of the band's history some special ones to look back on, like we do now with MX and VLV eras.

That's awesome! Which mod are you! I had no idea that the sub had been going for almost five years... although now that I think about it, I've never seen any old threads from before MX. Actually now that I've checked it, it says that the sub has been active since September 2008! Edit: For anyone who missed it, the previous comment about the subreddit is in reply to a (quite lengthy, I will admit, but special and inspiring!) comment I originally posted at the end of page 22, which has now been moved to another thread, the "Coldplaying's history" thread. Coldplaying's history
ORIGINALLY POSTED IN THE KALEIDOSCOPE EP THREAD AT THE END OF PAGE 22 AND MOVED TO THIS THREAD: Hey guys, I've got something to ask. I've been an avid Coldplayer for over 2 years now and I've been on Coldplaying for a few months. Much like the actual band's history, I think this website has such a special history and, like so many things related to the band, has a history that accurately represents the culture, trends, music and just the overall vibes of the past 2 decades (almost). I have fair knowledge of what's happened over the years with this website and community, things like how VLVODAAHF - MX was much busier compared to now, how the owners have changed (all I know is that the main guy's name was Ian basically), how the actual site itself has changed considerably and continually over the years. It's really special because it's followed the band's history after all this time, and I love it. But, like so many of you I'm sure, it's just a rough outline. So... could someone, or anyone really who wants to chip in, give a fairly in depth outline of the grand history of this spectacular website and community? It doesn't have to be too long, and you can all give your own different points of view and perspectives. Include as much as you know! Big things like how and when it started out, who started it, big moments in it and the band's history, how the site has won awards, how it's changed so much over the years and what it's been like during each era (or at least the ones that the site was active during). Anything you want. Anyone here who has been here a really long time? I know that @Christa42 has been here for around 10 years (damn!), anyone else who's still active now, any non-staff members? Anyone really? We could even put the history into the "About" section of the site (btw @Stephen, there's a lot of dead links down the bottom of the page like the different navigation sections and social medias and stuff, is that part of the current fixing up of the site? - I know you've got a lot on your plate, though - but the community can help create the content and stuff!) I'd just really love to discover the insight into this magnificent site's history and the evolution of it and the CP community over the years. I, like so many of you, wish that I could've been here, and also a Coldplayer, during earlier times (dat ETIAW thread tho :scream::mylo:). But if we do so many more things here now and utilise this great community, then we'll be able to look back on these times in a few years like we currently do with the previous eras, and we'll realise that these times, right now, were some of the best and most special times of this site's history and community, too. This anticipation for and leadup to the Kaleidoscope EP (are we shortening it to KEP, is that how we're doing it? lol) can be like the leadup to PM or MX. But overall, I think we should all remember when we talk about the difference in activity on this site that the band is certainly not finished yet and there's still so much of the band's history to experience together. The CP community has so much more to go! Oh and btw, if anyone here is interested, the subreddit is another fantastic place and community for the band. Personally I much prefer the user interface of Reddit to these forum-type websites, but both are great. Anyone here is who is already on the sub?

I quite like most of his music, but this recent one isn't as good imo.
