  1. Well it appears Chris is back in London after opening his stocking from Goopy in the Maldives. It is now 2019 with the holiday season over, and the band have been seen together recently before Christmas. And Guy said they were to get back to work this year. Whitecross said they are hatching something. And they typically start writing and recording an album around the end/beginning of a calendar year. I believe the kickoff of LP8 is officially upon us! I would bet we see more of the band around The Bakery and whatnot very shortly.
  2. Are ya'll kidding me? This is one of my favorite Chris things ever :joy:. Dude deserved to be kicked to the ground for filming and "congratulating" someone outside a hospital after essentially suffering the loss of a child (at least, this is believed to be after Gwyneth's miscarriage). Especially it being Chris, one of the nicest people on the planet. I commend Chris for acting in this manner, if this truly was after a miscarriage. And, according to Gwyneth, she nearly died during her miscarriage. 1. The paparazzi are terrible. This is a low moment for these people (really, every day of their lives is a low moment for humanity) and completely intrusive and inappropriate. 2. I don't think this was X&Y era, I believe this was several years later. But, I could be wrong.
  3. Well I can assure you they are not just sitting around in the Bakery for days on end sipping a pot of tea and stepping outside for selfies. If I had to place bets, I'm guessing they are making initial plans for 2019 and workshopping some material Chris has developed over the past year. Then Chris will go to LA and open his stocking from Goopy over Christmas and the boys will get to work next month.
  4. For me- Yellow, Clocks, The Scientist, Speed of Sound, VLV, Charlie Brown, Paradise. Although I did not realize they were all from the same incredible band. It was around Ghost Stories (Magic and A Sky Full of Stars) when I became hooked and realized wow, there are a lot of Coldplay songs on my phone! So I checked out each album and fell in love with 90% of the songs. So what about you guys? I'm curious.
  5. What songs did you know of Coldplay? And what specifically got you hooked on the band?
  6. Zero Theory replied to Gsilva's topic in The Lounge
Sure! Only about 2,000 miles away, but I can make the hike. ;)
  7. Zero Theory replied to Gsilva's topic in The Lounge
It's certainly a very unique sport! Never got into it but it's cool.
  8. This one is tough, nice one! I'm having trouble coming up with songs that clearly have a sample and were never played live. Gravity? For You? A L I E N S? I would say Miracles (SS) but that was played once live.
  9. Zero Theory replied to Gsilva's topic in The Lounge
Yea! I'm from the U.S. but I started to get really into the EPL around 6 years ago and I love Arsenal.
  10. Zero Theory replied to Gsilva's topic in The Lounge
I hate having to record my favorite sports teams. Live is so much better. Plus my phone usually spoils the game for me whether it's a text from someone or a notification. Would it happen to be the Man City match you wanted to watch? Lol
  11. How dare you say you dislike a band's music!
  12. I've heard this song before but I had no clue it was by The Chainsmokers! I quite like this one. The Chainsmokers textbook beat actually works within this one, and it's much better when their goofy singer isn't singing on the song. It reminds me a bit of the Seeb remix of I Took a Pill in Ibiza which is an exceptional song (I think even Chris mentioned that song as being like "chocolate" to the ears).
  13. No one is looking down on anyone. You can't conflate not liking a song with looking down on someone. There are plenty of great songs in the world I don't like. And plenty of music in the world most people don't like that I like (I like a lot of pop music that people would say is pop garbage, I just don't like really any of The Chainsmokers music). Who am I to look down on Coldplay for making music with whoever they want? I can't, and that is not what I was doing. I'm still not convinced that Guy, for example, loves SJLT. As much as Coldplay say they only release music with full band approval, Coldplay has released plenty of music that certain band members don't like. Are we supposed to just sit here and say we like everything Coldplay release because we are fans of the band? If you like it, great, if you don't, it doesn't affect anyone.
  14. "I will never go solo" -Christopher Martin, circa 2016
  15. Nooo please don't put The Chainsmokers anywhere in the same stratosphere as Coldplay. Perhaps I am biased because of my distaste for their music, but I don't think we will see them stay relevant. Are they even relevant anymore? I'm not trying to be rude, I totally get why people like The Chainsmokers, but I am still bitter Chris wrote a song with them because I don't like them. And even more bitter Guy, Will, Jonny and Phil let it happen lol
  16. I agree, but they are possibly the closest "new" thing/band since Coldplay that have some chance to be as big as Coldplay (However, given the last 2 albums from ID, they will not ever reach anywhere close to the status of Coldplay). But that is more of an indictment on just how huge Coldplay are around the world. The reason they are so huge is how they essentially have different eras of fans because of how much they have changed and stayed relevant for the last 20 years. Chris even mentioned how at concerts you have the new/young AHFOD fans at the front, and then the further away from the stage are the Parachutes/AROBTTH, etc fans. I don't know how true that is, but there is definitely fans of different eras and ages at the concerts. A 40 year old dude at a AHFOD concert who loved X&Y probably has nowhere near the musical taste of perhaps a younger person who got into the band during AHFOD era. I don't know if there are any bands now where that is true other than Coldplay. I'd love to know if that's true. (Maybe U2 or Rolling Stones?)
  17. Imagine Dragons so desperately need a Brian Eno. They are immensely talented with a unique frontman with a great voice. The difference between Coldplay and Imagine Dragons is that Imagine Dragons seem content to stick with a formula that works, whereas Coldplay never wanted to repeat something they've already done, but still have their signature stamp on everything they release. There's nothing inherently wrong with I.D. sticking with a formula that works, and I have seen Imagine Dragons and they are an excellent live act, but it is starting to wear on the general masses. It feels as though they could be so much more, and it's really a shame we might never see them reach their full creative potential, like Coldplay did, imo, with VLV and MX.
  18. Debs Wild recently suggested in her Reddit Q&A that it will never be released. I like the melody and pretty much everything except the cheesy lyrics, I wonder if the band feel the same way. Maybe they just don't feel it's good enough to release.
  19. One of my main takeaways from this article is that people say Coldplay are very middle-of-the-road and un-revolutionary. Sure, a lot of their songs fit nicely in the background at a Starbucks, but I think quite the contrary to the idea that they are un-revolutionary- Certainly, Coldplay admittedly were attempting to put their moderate twist on the sounds of Radiohead and Jeff Buckley towards the beginning, but they have evolved unlike really any of their contemporaries. They have embraced all genres of music to make their own music that truly doesn't have a genre. How many bands have dabbled in rock, indie, country, pop, hip-hop, EDM while actually having acclaim and success doing so? They have redefined "rock" from heavily distorted guitars, groupies, drugs, etc. into a euphoric, uplifting, unifying experience centered more around emotions and less about inventive, complex music to bang your head to.
  20. I did, very interesting article. It's nice to see someone shed some light and bring relevant people's insight on how Coldplay have stayed relevant and break the bank on rock tours.... unlike people just sh**ing on the band.
  21. Can someone remake the Yellow video with Chris doing the same thing except Will, Jonny and Guy walking behind him doing the exact same thing as Chris.
  22. I'm sorry but there is approximately 0% chance Jonny, Guy and Will create an album on their own with Will on vocals :joy: We have no indication Coldplay are splitting up. Quite the opposite, actually. -Guy said they were taking a 1 year break after AHFOD and getting back to work next year (2019) -Mat Whitecross has said Coldplay are "hatching something" -Jonny has told a fan they will be back soon -They have all pretty much stated they are not splitting up, just that they don't know what the future holds A lot of us asked Coldplay to take a nice break and to take time and refresh to come back with better music. So, here we are, and now people think they are splitting up because Chris has been home a lot in LA and they haven't been together since November 2017. Don't Panic ;)
  23. I'm curious where those rumors are from, because we know from Guy that after AHFOD, they agreed on a one year hiatus of no writing or recording. Of course, they are all musicians for a living and Chris is writing stuff on his own all the time. But I think they agreed they needed a break as a group to refresh, and I'm sure they will get back to work in 2019 refreshed with a box of ideas. Guy said they will get back to work next year. Though, I wouldn't doubt that the boys are a bit frustrated with Chris' distance from them.
  24. I don't think that's Will. He's not credited for vocals on the song. I'm guessing it's either Tiwa Savage, Danny Ocean or Mikkel Eriksen.
