  4. Coldplay, The Killers, Gary Barlow and Bono unite for Warchild after the Brits - and I was there to get the goss! Posted by Dean Piper On February 20th, 2009 It’s not often you get to see a once in a lifetime performance. But the Warchild benefit gig at the newly renamed O2 Shepherds Bush Empire was out of this world. Chris Martin and his band Coldplay managed to persuade The Killers, Bono from U2 and Gary Barlow to take to the stage and sing the Killers track All These Things That I’ve Done. It was the ultimate boy band performance – ever. Before coming back out for an encore Chris Martin told the crowd: “This is going to be the best encore you’ve ever seen.” And he wasn’t wrong….. Before the all star performance Take That’s Gary came out and sang Back For Good with Coldplay! The audience was celebrity central too! I was just a couple of feet away from Gwyneth Paltrow who sang along to back For Good and bit her lip with excitement when Bono walked on, Sienna Miller and Gemma Arterton danced side by side. Anna Friel and partner David Thewlis looked exceedingly sweaty as they raised their hands and rocked out whilst nearby supermodels Sophie Dahl and Erin O’Connor shook their heads with delight. Courtney Love ran in late on and chatted to The Edge throughout the Coldplay section. It was a truly mind blowing evening! To see pictures from the mammoth gig click here. But my evening wasn’t all good! I had a wee run in with Gemma Arterton. I fear she may need to come back down to earth! After being initially lovely at the swanky O2 bash she refused to pose for a picture with me! And told me: “There’s no way I could do a photo with you. Everyone called me fat few weeks ago - and i can’t do anything with magazines like Closer. My publicist would kill me.” The sad thing is I actually have always liked her and I was thrilled to meet her! And she’s far from fat in real life. Gemma told me she missed the Brits as she was filming in the Isle of Man. “I hopped on a plane to get back to make the Coldplay and Killers gig,” she explained. “I missed the awards but wanted to come out.” Gemma has a bright future - what with Prince of Persia coming out soon - but she needs to remember the mags and sites that have helped her out on the way up – and will continue too! I watched the Killers perform next to lovely Radio One DJ Edith Bowman who was enjoying a night out to play after giving birth to her first child eight months ago. Edith was over the moon that Girls Aloud won their gong. She said: “Seeing them scrambling up to the stage like excited little girls made the Brits for me this year. It was much deserved.” I couldn’t agree more Edith! It was about time the UK’s biggest pop band got a Brit Award! http://www.deanpiper.com/index.php/2009/02/20/coldplay-the-killers-gary-barlow-and-bono-unite-for-warchild-after-the-brits-and-i-was-there-to-get-the-goss/
  5. Event Review: Coldplay and The Killers Well the title should pretty much sum it up. Two of the worlds greatest rock band, Coldplay with the Killers, or The Killers with Coldplay, watevas ur cuppa tea. The event was held at Shepards Bush 02 empire, London. Limited to 2000 places only. Before that, howd i manage to go? Wellll, someone dearest to me managed to get FREE tickets for two to the event ; ) So yea, im lucky enough to go. Anywhoo.. Before reading this review i highly suggest reading it while listening to Coldplay or the Killers ; ) , Lets get on with the review guys >>>>> We got in quite early at 9.30 pm on a Wednesday nite, ( thank God i didnt have tutorials the next day ). It was a charity concert on behalf of WAR CHILD, an organization thats been going on for 15 years helping children in war torn countries. So hats off to them for their effort in making the world a better place. Drop food, not bombs. Waited for an Hour before THE KILLERS came on stage. Lighting was mostly purple and pink and also bright yellow for the Killers act. Fog machine made the awesome light shaft effect that we as photographers are always drooling over to capture. Brandon Flower came on stage beating along to the tunes of SPACEMAN from their new album ,Day and Age. He wore the funny jacket he also wore in the HUMAN music video. Needless to say Brandon was ENERGETIC. He was absolutely superb. The crowed became crazy and started jumping up and down. We were already quite near to the front, about 4-5 human rows from the stage. But the people behind us kept shoving us forward (which was not the fun part) . Next song up was Somebody Told Me, this was obviously a sing along song and everyone sang along. Followed by their songs Human, Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me, This Is Your Life, Read My Mind and When You Were Young. What? No All The Things Ive Done? This cant be true. Anyway an hour had past, thrilled but still hoping for that last song. Intervals came after that, they had to completely change the equipment setup to accomodate Coldplay, that took a good 20 minutes. We were entertained by a british guy holding a pint in a school outfit, making funny jokes. It was good for the first 10 minutes i guess. Finally it came, the band everyones been waiting for, or not. Coldplay’s music upon stepping on stage was a musical piece by Beethoven or Mozart. Instantly the band took up their instruments and started rocking to the song Clocks. Chris Martin was wearing a custom military outfit. Again, Coldplay was electrifyingly awesome. Chris Martin put on one of his best performances ever. Flailing around and even falling on his knees singing. Lighting for Coldplays act was mostly bright white moving spotlights, good for photos btw, hehe. Interaction with the audience was very good, everyone sang along to every tune that came out, with Chris making some jokes along the way. Tracks played by them were, Lost!, 42, then Fix You. Fix You was so dramatic as Chris went to play the piano under changing colour spotlight. I remember crying a few times listening to this song, so hearing it live was overwhelming for me, not to mention getting to sing along with the man himself. It was too good to be true. Yellow was next, who doesnt know Yellow right?? Chris’s spectacular performance had something to do with the fact that his wife, Gwenyth Paltrow, was amongst the crowed singing merrily to his songs. He kept looking up at the upper audience platform, we turned around only to see Mrs Martin there ; ) . During the song Yellow, while chanting ” look at the stars, look how they shine for you…and all the things you do…coz it was all yellow..” , Chris obviously dedicated it to his wife, as he was all happy and smiling while looking at his wife. To us in the audience it was absolutely beautiful and sweet ; ) . He also asked the audience to sing Yellow to his wife saying that ” imagine that theres an important X factor Judge in the crowed, so lets try to please her shall we? ” . I cant even describe the feeling here folks ; ). Last song by Coldplay was In My Place. Then they took off. We, the audience were put off. Why? No VIVA LA VIDA, thats why. SO everyone started humming to the tune of VIVA LA VIDA, haha, they sure as hell came back with an encore. What can i say Viva La Vida is an awesome song, song of the year my friends for you who dont know. Chris told the audience ” this is gonna be the best encore ever,” . True to whats told, one of the members from old boyband Take That, Gary Barlow, came on stage and played the song Back For Good with Coldplay, you’ll know the song when you hear it. And as if that wasnt good enough, they also had another surprise, Coldplay AND the Killers play together in their last song by the Killers, All These Things I’ve Done. What????? All of a sudden BONO form U2 jumps on stage to sing as well! 4 big names on one stage playing the same song! “I’ve got soul but im not a soldier…” were the chants by everyone. It started off with a bang and ended in a big bang. Considered by some as a once in a life time concert. You can see clips of the concert on youtube ; ) btw. Do check it out!!!! So thats my review on the event, just wanted to share how the event with all my friends out there. ; ) Cheers. http://lensa.co.uk/2009/02/coldplay-and-the-killers-event-review/
  6. Foo fundraiser US rockers Foo Fighters may headline a twin-city fundraiser for bushfire and flood victims. Touring promoters Michael Chugg and Michael Gudinski will stage simultaneous rock events in Melbourne and Sydney on March 14. Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon are in talks for the MCG show and Coldplay is tipped for the Sydney show. Chugg and Gudinski will officially announce the shows on Tuesday. Local stars Silverchair, Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe, Jimmy Barnes and The Veronicas have offered to play at the benefits. And John Farnham may be lured out of semi-retirement to support relief efforts, but his manager, Glenn Wheatley said The Voice needs to get match fit. "This tragedy is the only reason for him to consider doing anything," Wheatley said. "John will find it harder than most to do a major live performance as he has not performed in more than three years and had no intention of going out again. "He has not had a band together in all this time, so it will require an enormous amount of work to pull something together." Yesterday actor Lisa McCune and singers Russell Morris and Darryl Cotton headlined the Chief Commissioner's Bushfire Appeal Concerts at Melbourne Town Hall. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon said the concert provided an opportunity for communities touched by the devastation to come together to help raise money and for members to unite in support of their emergency services colleagues. "This is a great opportunity for Melburnians to show their support for bushfire survivors and emergency services colleagues," she said. "Many members of the emergency services have witnessed firsthand the devastation the bushfires have brought upon communities, so this is an opportunity for them to help support the fundraising efforts. "Over the past week, police bands have been performing at relief centres across the state and many residents have said how much they've appreciated the performances." http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25088195-662,00.html
  7. Chris Martin: You're too skinny, Gywn! As the star loses her curves, her husband issues a stern warning Friday, 20 February 2009 Looking skinnier than ever, Gwyneth Paltrow has been told by husband Chris Martin not to lose any more weight because he prefers his women with curves. Gwyneth, 36, has shrunk from a size 10 to a size 6 in under a year. Now Coldplay star Chris has told her to ease up before she drops another dress size. ‘Gwyneth works out six days a week with Tracy Anderson – the same trainer Madonna uses,’ a source tells Now. ‘Like Madonna, she’s been progressively increasing her exercise sessions and working her butt off.’ The star’s said to have upped her daily sessions from an hour and a half to an exhausting three hours. ‘At first, Chris told her she looked good. In the beginning, she was just becoming more toned,’ says our source. ‘But he now thinks she risks losing all her curves. She’s even tried to get him to work out with her, which he flat out refuses to do.' Gwyneth’s set to open a set of gyms with Tracy and hopes to release her own fitness DVD. ‘She feels she can’t be associated with a gym, have a fitness DVD out and not be super-fit,’ adds the source. ‘It’s a lot of pressure, but Gwyneth’s someone who can be very driven and determined. It’s hoped she’ll rein it in a bit before she hits that dreaded size 0.’ See the full story about Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow in Now magazined dated 23 February 2009 - out now! http://www.nowmagazine.co.uk/celebrity-news/301688/chris-martin-you-re-too-skinny-gywn/1/
  8. A one-way ticket to the blues Source: Guardian Unlimited Music fans were this week warned of an explosion in the number of fraudulent gig ticket websites, with fears growing that the number of people likely to be ripped off this year may well exceed the estimated 30,000 people fleeced in 2008. Guardian Money can reveal that some of the sites offering tickets to events such as this year's Reading, Leeds and V Festivals are identical to scam websites that left many people out of pocket last year - yet the UK authorities seem powerless to act. The problem is these sites tend to be hosted outside the UK - with Hungary a favourite safe haven. In many cases the Metropolitan Police has written to the web-hosting companies and domain registrars to ask them to pull the plug, but these requests are often refused. And even when the authorities succeed in getting sites shut down, the fraudsters behind them often simply move elsewhere and relaunch with slightly different names. These are not amateur-looking websites; they often carry all the official branding (stolen from legitimate sites, of course) and have plausible web addresses, which is often enough to fool people into thinking they are real. Last year, thousands of people were left high and dry by a number of dodgy firms, including SOS Master Tickets, whose website was taken down after it took money for 2008 V Festival tickets that never arrived. At the time, Guardian Money told how Melvin Benn, director of the Reading and Leeds festivals, said he was sure that the notorious ticket tout Michael Rangos was behind the website readingfestivaltickets.co.uk which left an unknown number of punters out of pocket. Experts in this type of fraud are already bracing themselves for a bad year. Reg Walker, who is responsible for anti-counterfeiting operations at Reading and other major events, warns: "There has been a 10-fold increase in the number of scam websites. I think it will actually be worse [than last year]. These sites have been up for a lot longer this time around." He and others are currently monitoring close to 40 sites that "cannot possibly provide the tickets they are advertising". Three to steer clear of are readingfestival2009.com, leedsfestival2009.com and vfestival2009.net. They are very slick and bear a striking similarity to readingfestivaltickets.co.uk, leedsfestival.net and vfestival.net respectively, which were up and running last year. The three new sites give no names, addresses or telephone numbers - you have to email them. However, Guardian Money has established that readingfestival2009.com and leedsfestival2009.com have links to the same post office box number in the US city of Vancouver, while vfestival2009.net (like its predecessor, vfestival.net) has connections to the address "PO Box 99800" in the small Californian city of Emeryville. Another dodgy company, bookmetickets.com, allegedly operates from the same Emeryville PO box number. It offers tickets to UK gigs by acts such as Coldplay, Take That and the Killers, claims on its website to be based in New York, and takes payments in sterling and Hungarian forints. Yet another, Londonticketsexpress.com, also has links to that Emeryville PO box number, and to an address in Cyprus - but claims to be based in Hungary. It is a copy of London Ticket Shop, a Rangos website shut down by the UK government. All too often, Hungary and scam websites go hand-in-hand. Walker, who is also head of the commercial protection unit at London's 02 Arena, says the country seems to have become a "safe haven" because some of its web-hosting companies and internet service providers simply will not pull the plug on rip-off sites. He appealed to the Hungarian authorities "to clamp down on fraudulent websites being hosted in Hungary ... set up specifically to defraud the public in the UK". Rangos has, in the past, operated companies based in both Hungary and Cyprus. He told us: "I categorically deny that I have any connection with any of those websites you mention ... I also challenge what you say Melvin Benn has been quoted as saying, an issue which I have raised directly with him and have had no confirmation that he has said any such thing." Other sites to avoid include: Takethattour.net Offering tickets to Take That's summer stadium shows, which has links to that post office box number in Vancouver. Tinthepark2009.net Flogging tickets to the T in the Park festival in Balado, Kinross-shire, in July. Intriguingly, this website gives a registered address in the Scottish town of East Kilbride and a local landline number (there was no one available to take our call when we rang). This address is a business centre. A search of the web indicates the site is connected to a chap called Alberto Perez in Panama. Tinaturnertickets.net, Eddieizzardlive.com and Cliffrichardtour.com As the names suggest, these offer tickets to Tina Turner, Eddie Izzard and Cliff Richard's forthcoming shows. All have links to that well-used post office box number in Vancouver. The Cliff Richard site gives its address as St Dunstans Hill, Sutton, Surrey. Coldplaylivetickets.net Apparently also part of Mr Perez's Panamanian empire. Previously traded as Coldplaylivetickets.com. Downloadfestival2009.com A slick-looking site offering tickets to the Download Festival taking place at Castle Donington in June. It supposedly operates out of a village in Holland. Ticketingdirect.net and 123tickets.net Identical sites claiming to operate from an address in Vancouver (the Canadian one this time), though, in reality, the latter seems to be based in Edinburgh. If you do get ripped off but have paid by credit card, under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act the card issuer is jointly liable for the failure to provide goods or services. If you paid by debit card, contact your bank as soon as possible and they may refund your money. Enforce photo ID to squeeze out touts, government tells promoters Music and sporting event promoters are being encouraged to bring in tough measures to combat touts, such as printing the buyer's name on tickets and requiring them to show photo ID to get into the venue. On Thursday, the government said it wanted to see "much more use" of innovative measures that have successfully prevented touts from buying up tickets for some high-profile events, including Tom Waits's concerts in Edinburgh last summer. Waits fans were only allowed to buy two tickets each, with the buyer's name and that of their guest printed on each one. Ticket-holders needed to show photo ID corresponding to the names on the tickets to get in. Launching a consultation on the ticket market, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport suggested that the UK trade body, the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (Star) could oversee a voluntary "code of principles" which its members would have to follow. Customers buying tickets from firms displaying the Star logo would then know they were dealing with reputable sellers. In recent years, obtaining tickets for in-demand events has become an increasingly stressful and expensive business. However, some artists have come up with their own solution to the problem of profiteering touts - they seem to be attempting to price them out of business. Top-price tickets for Van Morrison's London shows in April, which went on sale yesterday, are priced at a cool £200 - plus booking fee, of course. You’ve read it. Now review it. 11. The Killers on Bono, cover albums and career breaks Hot Press met guitarist Dave Keuning last night in the Dublin O2. The Killers have been talking about their much-vaunted covers record and Hot Press’ suggestion that it’s bound to include a healthy smattering of Duran Duran, Joy Divison, Oasis, New Order, Pet Shop Boys and The Cars songs. “You could be right about some of those, although if we do go ahead with a covers album there'll be plenty of surprises in there as well,” guitarist Dave Keuning told Hot Press backstage at their Dublin O2 show last night. “We’ve half-recorded one or two, but if and when it’ll come to fruition I don’t know. We’ve talked about doing it on the road – we’ve a couple of mics, a little drum-set, a bass amp and a guitar amp in the back right now, and Ronnie and me both know how to use Logic – so maybe.” Even by their exalted standards, it’s been a good week for The Killers with Brandon taking part in the Brit Awards tribute to the Pet Shop Boys and then afterwards all four of them performing at the War Child 15th birthday party in the Shepherd’s Bush Empire. “It was us first doing eight songs followed by Coldplay who also did half a set, and then we all came back for the encore, which also featured Bono and Gary Barlow.” Were they familiar with Take That prior to the War Child bash? “I knew Take That and their hit song, ‘Back For Good’, but not the individual names of the members,” Dave admits. “Having Bono sing ‘I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier’ during ‘All These Things That I Have Done’, which was the last song played, was the most surreal thing that’s ever happened to us. Bono, Coldplay and The Killers – not a bad little band!” Did Bono hit his notes okay? “He didn’t let the side down, no, and added a few lyrics of his own that he wanted to incorporate. We had a little practice backstage beforehand, so it wasn’t as scary as it might’ve been!” In an interview that will be appearing in an upcoming issue of Hot Press, Keuning also revealed that The Killers may be taking a prolonged career break. “That’s what we’re talking about right now. I imagine we’ll be touring Day & Age until mid-2010, and we’re then for sure going to take a year off – maybe longer, we’ll see. We had six months off after Sam’s Town, three weeks of which I go to spend at home in San Diego, so it’d be nice to go on an extended vacation.” The Hot Press Newsdesk http://www.hotpress.com/news/5269625.html
  12. maybe, maybe not :( I just tend to try and work on the theory that things happen for a reason, and that if you don't get something you really want this time, it because there's something better round the corner
  13. I can see why!! Splatted guy on floor would have meant no gig, so you saved them a riot!
  14. Ace!! Not only do we get great songs, our artistical knowledge is improving as well :D
  15. nice pics :D I prefer to think that the Coldplay Karma has something special in mind. Jen & Ian didn't get to do the Today Show or the BBC gig last June. So in 2009, Coldplay Karma provided Absolute Radio & War Child :D :laugh3: they're looking great :) I like the bit at the end where security meet up to point out the people behind us who they thought were filming!!!! :laugh3:

  17. Coldplay, Killers, Take That and U2 perform for War Child Coldplay and The Killers – joined by special guests U2 and Take That – played a rare joint gig in London this week to raise awareness for War Child. Coldplay and Take That’s Gary Barlow teamed up at the 02 Shepherd's Bush Empire for a special performance of Back For Good, with Chris Martin declaring it would cheer him up after leaving the Brits empty-handed. ‘I think everyone agrees that the band to see at the moment is Take That,’ he declared. ‘We've just got back from Japan, lost all the Brits, it's been a shit day frankly, but it's going to get better. Please welcome Mr. Gary Barlow!’ Then, The Killers and Bono joined Coldplay on-stage to perform All These Things That I’ve Done. Earlier, Coldplay had performed their own set, kicking off with Life in Technicolour and Violet Hill, before a rousing version of In My Place. ‘Should we play this one or is it a bit commercial?’ joked the singer before launching into 2000 hit Yellow. Speaking after the show the three frontmen, Bono, Brandon Flowers, and Chris Martin, praised the night and War Child - who release new charity album Heroes this week. ‘Tonight was such an honour, it was one of the most exciting gigs we've ever played,’ declared Flowers, while Martin added: ‘We couldn't have imagined that we'd make this work. The fact that the money raised from tickets have enabled War Child to extend the reach of their work is astonishing.’ Bono concluded: ‘War Child's work is vital and being able to have a moment with Brandon and Chris tonight is a salute to an awesome night for them.' http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/news/celebrity/305137/coldplay-killers-take-that-and-u2-perform-for-war-child.html
  18. NATALIE IMBRUGLIA and CHRIS MARTIN have been secretly recording together. The former Neighbours star and the COLDPLAY frontman have collaborated on a string of tracks, which are likely to feature on her forthcoming album. In a break from his group’s studio this month, he filled his time penning tunes with Natalie, who presented the International Group gong to KINGS OF LEON. Afterwards, she did an impressive tour of the parties. First to Shepherd’s Bush to catch Chris and Co’s War Child show. Then she hung out with the Kings and THE KILLERS at the Met Bar. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/article2256049.ece ------------------------------ UPDATE: 4TH MARCH 2009 Coldplay's Chris Martin regrets giving song to Natalie Imbruglia Coldplay's Chris Martin has revealed his dismay at giving Natalie Imbruglia a track that he claims could have been the "best Coldplay song ever". The song is expected to be the first single from Imbruglia's forthcoming new album 'Come To Life', and may be titled 'Scars'. "A bit annoyingly we've given her the best Coldplay song of all time," Martin joked to Heraldsun.com.au. "But because we're off-cycle we can't do it ourselves." He added: "Half of me wishes we still had it. But she sounds fucking brilliant on it. I think she has a very unique talent and an incredibly unique voice." 'Come To Life' is expected to be released in May. Source: http://www.nme.com/news/coldplay/43207
  19. Brits Boost Music Sales (Don't Tell Coldplay) Ritch and Bally Ames are a husband-and-wife team running a small online marketing company in the music industry. Sky News has asked them to write weekly features on surviving the recession. An exciting week for British music. The Brit Awards took place on Wednesday, Duffy walked away with three awards, Iron Maiden surprised everyone by getting Best Live Act, Paul Weller upset the bookies by taking Best Male, and ITV1 picked up an extra 800k viewers on last year's show, six million tuning in. Album sales in the US after the Grammy Awards have jumped 16% on last week, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Coldplay & Adele all seeing their albums climb back up the charts. Coldplay left the Brits empty handed, but joined the Killers at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of War Child, and the launch of the new Heroes album. We were lucky enough to be invited along, and watched two of the biggest bands on the planet in such a small venue. The encore by Coldplay consisted of another Brit loser, Take That's Gary Barlow, who belted out Back For Good with a unique session band. To top that, Chris Martin invitedThe Killers back on stage, and the two bands performed All These Things That I've Done, the opening notes of the track made the crowd go wild. When Bono from U2 walked on, the place erupted. Gary Barlow was also dragged back on stage by Chris Martin to join in the fun. http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Business/Brit-Awards-U2-Coldplay-And-Killers-Party-With-Ritch-And-Bally-Ames-From-Tomorrow-Never-Knows/Article/200902315226600?lpos=Business_First_Buisness_Feature_Teaser_Region__0&lid=ARTICLE_15226600_Brit_Awards%3A_U2%2C_Coldplay_And_Killers_Party_With_Ritch_And_Bally_Ames_From_Tomorrow_Never_Knows
