  2. Live Review-Coldplay @ Hammerstein Ballroom In a up close and personal, exclusive invitation only concert, one of the biggest bands in the world played to one of their smallest audiences in years. 500 lucky fans, industry executives, and friends of Coldplay including Jay-Z and Beyonce had a chance to see the London four piece in a intimate setting. Being one of the lucky ones to get in, it was rather amazing to see Coldplay perform to such a small crowd gathered at Hammerstein Ballroom, a venue that can hold close to 4,000. The concert was a taping for a Nissan / Yahoo live series that will be broadcast on the web December 1. Opening with "Life in Technicolor," then going into a semi-acoustic version of "Violet Hill;" I could hear the feedback coming off speakers, the hands of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman and Johnny Buckland sliding up and down the fret boards of their guitars, Chris' fingers pounding his piano. While feeling the air coming from Will Champion's drums, I knew I was in for something special. Playing for an hour, featuring a heavy Viva La Vida or Death and all His Friends set, they managed to sneak in fan favorites like "Clocks," and "Yellow." The biggest moment of the night was during "Viva La Vida," when the small crowd just went absolutely nuts, it is one of those songs that people need to experience live at least once before they die. In between songs Martin would lend his smug commentary from everything to life on the road, the upcoming US Election and his admiration for touring mate Duffy. It was during these little moments in between songs that I realized after seeing them five times (including last night), in every size venue possible, this is the most I have ever herd Chris Martin speak to his audience. Fame has seem to really grab a hold of the singer, his ego and confidence on stage has soared beyond measure. However, he has his band mates to keep him grounded as they really provide the soundtrack to an amazing event, night after night. Last night also proved that size does not matter for Coldplay. You can stick them in Madison Square Garden or Hammerstein Ballroom in front of 500 people and they will give one of the greatest live performances you will ever see and only leaving you wanting more. 6. When Chris Read bought a mobile phone through eBay, it was described as being in good condition. But when the phone arrived a few days later, he was disappointed to find it was the wrong model and appeared to be damaged. After returning his purchase and receiving a refund from the seller, Joel Jones, he used the online auction website's feedback section - which can be read by other people - to give his honest opinion of the transaction. 'Item was scratched, chipped and not the model advertised on Mr Jones's eBay account,' he wrote, assuming it was the end of the matter... But he has now received an email threatening him with libel action. And it will be a legal first if the case reaches court. Mr Jones claims the unfavourable comments have damaged his business. The legal missive goes on to warn Mr Read that if he fails to retract his comments he will be dragged to court where he faces costs, lawyers' fees and damages. Father-of-five Mr Read, 42, said: 'I can't believe someone can be so petty. All I had done was left an honest opinion and everything I said was true. I thought that was why the feedback service was there. It's not like I wrote anything malicious or called him a conman.' He added: 'If it has to go to court then so be it. Hopefully it won't go that far but I'm prepared to fight my corner.' Mr Read, a mechanic from Herne Bay, Kent, ordered the £155 Samsung last month. 'There were scratches all over it, a big chip out of the side and it was a different phone,' he said. 'I paid for a Samsung F700 and got a Samsung F700V.' The legal letter he received states: 'The negative feedback you left on October 3 regarding Samsung F700 was unfair and is damaging to my business's reputation and ability to trade. We require a signed statement accepting that the feedback is unfair.' Unless such a statement was forthcoming within seven days, said the letter, legal action would commence. Mr Jones, 26, who lives in Suffolk and sells used electronic goods under the user name onsalexuk, defended his decision. 'Given that Chris received a no-quibble refund, the feedback was unfair, unreasonable and damaging,' he said. 'I am being punished on eBay because of this as sellers who have negative feedback appear lower down the screen in searches than other people. I'm losing money by the day and my business could go under because of it. I've been left with no option but to take legal action.' An eBay spokesman said the firm operated a mediation service to handle disputes over feedback comments. 'In this particular case, the seller never contacted us about the buyer,' the spokesman added. Libel involves someone's personal or business reputation being damaged by a false or defamatory statement that has been published. The law is the same whether the comments appear in written form or are broadcast on the radio or television, or appear online. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1079968/Man-sold-wrong-phone-eBay-sued-seller-leaving-negative-feedback.html
  7. Naked man found wedged in chimney A naked man found wedged in the chimney of a supermarket in Wigan has been arrested on suspicion of burglary. Police officers discovered him trapped in a chimney breast of a Tesco Express store on Ormskirk Road, Pemberton. Firefighters were called to rescue the man who had become trapped in the chimney as he tried to get out. Police said that because the man was naked he was taken to hospital as a precaution but was treated and discharged before being arrested. A GMP spokeswoman said: "It is believed some of his clothes came off as a result of him struggling to get out of the chimney." A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7683826.stm

  16. Guy Berryman of Coldplay ''The Pompidou Centre, Paris'' Berryman's sketch is inspired by the time he got locked up on the roof of Paris’ Pompidou Centre as an eight-year-old boy. ''I can just remember the door closing and me being stuck out there. I think somebody had followed me, came up to the roof and brought me down. I can’t remember that much about it or what my mother said. I just remember being terrified and feeling very alone, thinking I was going to die up there on the roof.'' http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20057685_20057686_20226799_1,00.html
  17. Freewheelin' Bands On the Road, a collection of drawings by some well-known bandfolk such as Pele Almqvist of the Hives and Guy Berryman of Coldplay, comes out this Friday the 24th. Other featured bands include Aqualung, Babyshambles and the Libertines, Belle and Sebastian, Coldplay, The Dandy Warhols, Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, Hoobastank, Howie Day, Interpol, Keane, The Killers, Maroon 5, Nada Surf, Oasis, The Raconteurs, The Shins, Snow Patrol, Travis, and more...capturing their experiences on the road through their sketches. Another contributor, Pete Doherty (whose handwriting is much neater than expected), offers a glimpse into his mental workings and the thoughts behind his drawing, above (click on pic). It is one wild toad ride: ''All kinds of weird things were going on there... strange little kids with big heads would kill animals and butchers chased them. And we made a little film, it was a bit dark actually, and in the film I had to pretend that I raped a girl, who as an actress. Yeah, it was strange, but I fell in love with her anyway.... There were no boundaries, anything was possible and could have happened and did happen. Yeah, it’s just a very romantic time in my head, but dangerous too — just cool!'' Guy Berryman gets lost in the Pompidou Center, James Valentine draws an LA "Everyman" (and worries about possibly becoming one in future), Pete Doherty leads a tour through a Moscow that very few of us will ever visit....From the original London Bridge in the middle of Arizona to the Pixies' backstage ban on beer, life on tour always offers surprises. Indie music lives, and exactly how it lives is engagingly shown in this collection of drawings by members of the most successful bands in America, Britain, and Germany. Places they've been, private moments, concerts and tours, hopes and dreams: the book brings together the intimate thoughts and experiences of a wide range of musicians and presents a kaleidoscope of the lively independent music scene. The contributing musicians were asked to think about something in the past that had an important impact on them, a person or event that still resonates, and to draw it. The resulting sketches and their connected stories reveal a personal dimension to their lives that no interview ever could. Featured bands include Aqualung, Babyshambles & the Libertines, Belle and Sebastian, Coldplay, The Dandy Warhols, Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, Hoobastank, Howie Day, Interpol, Keane, The Killers, Maroon 5, Nada Surf, Oasis, The Raconteurs, The Shins, Snow Patrol, Travis, and more. 106 color illustrations.

  19. Coldplay Get Intimate in NYC The “Lost” quartet play an invite-only show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. While the CMJ Music Marathon is taking over New York City, Coldplay snuck into town to tape a Yahoo / Nissan Live Show at Hammerstein Ballroom. While the 4,000 capacity venue ain’t peanuts, it certainly is a small venue for the arena rockers who have won back a devote fanbase with Viva La Vida. A mellow crowd of mostly industry folks filled the Hammerstein floors, but the balconies, which were open, were surprisingly empty. The producers of the show easily could have gotten another thousand or so folks in. At one point, Chris even joked about how, apparently, Coldplay couldn’t get rid of enough tickets to pack the venue for a free show. Considering the last time Coldplay played a show like this was when they did an AOL live session at the Beacon Theatre to kick off the X&Y tour and it was a total disaster, I’m surprised how close this show came to becoming a repeat of that. What saved the show was the fact that the Viva songs are so much stronger than the X&Y songs and the band is so much more energized. Oh. Jay-Z was in the house with his woman. Everyone noticed him and was hoping for him to come out on “Lost,” but sadly, he did not. Oh well. Setlist Life In Technicolor Violet Hill Clocks Lost!
