X Factor in terror alert as hate cleric Bakri says reality show is anti-Muslim for su
Security has been stepped up for reality show the X Factor this weekend after Muslim hate preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed blasted the show for being anti-Muslim, it has been claimed. The exiled radical cleric hit out against the ITV1 show for supporting charity Help For Heroes, which aids injured troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Police fear his extremist followers will view his internet rant as a 'fatwa' – a religious ruling – and target the show’s stars and judges, including Simon Cowell. Bakri, 50, also blasted Muslims who wear the wristbands or who plan to sell the single Hero, which has been recorded by the X Factor finalists to raise money for the organisation. The firebrand preacher said: ‘Some Muslims in Birmingham are wearing the armbands in support of British troops in Afghanistan. He continued: ‘This is a form of muadaat (hatred) of the kuffar (non-believers) against the Muslims and it has dangerous implications.’ Bakri, who who exiled to Lebanon from Britain, added: ‘Some people may find excuses for those people – ignorance and so on. If after three days, if they continue, you are barred from these people and their deeds. ‘Even watching the show – those people are committing a form, a type, of muadaat (hatred). And that action is a form of kufr (non-belief).’ Security at the X Factor studios in Wembley, northwest London, usually involves a bag search and name checks for guests. But a show source told the Sun there were plans for X-ray scanners and a police presence on Saturday when finalists perform their newly recorded version of Mariah Carey's single. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘We are aware of the recording and it will be assessed to see if any offences have been committed.’ Simon Cowell already has his own bodyguard, while judges Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh are looked after the show's security guard Tony Adkins. Syrian-born Bakri has in the past provoked outrage by praising the 9/11 terrorists and blaming the British public for the 7/7 blasts in London that killed 52 people in July 2005. His dislike of British society, however, didn’t stop him from raking in £300,000 worth of state funds by raising his family here on benefits. He was eventually forced out of Britain in 2005. His rant comes just weeks after revealed that the radical cleric has a pole-dancing daughter and a second wife nearly half his age. His daughter Yasmin dances topless in bars and his new Lebanese wife, Ruba, is 26. http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1079280/X-Factor-terror-alert-hate-cleric-Bakri-says-reality-anti-Muslim-supporting-troops-charity.html

Gwyneth...
Found it! Anne Hathaway outglams Gwyneth in striking blue dress in showdown of the premieres Anne Hathaway stole the show at the London Film Festival as she dazzled in a strapless blue and purple dress. The 25-year-old actress easily outdazzled Gwyneth Paltrow, who went for a baggy, Gothic number at her screening on the opposite side of Leicester Square. The Devil Wears Prada star bravely kept on smiling as she stood in the wet at the premiere of her latest film Rachel Getting Married. Hathaway admitted her dress was pretty soaked, but she was thrilled to be showing off the movie in the British capital. Meanwhile, Paltrow was forced to shun her customary high heels on the red carpet in favour of flats. She said: 'I hurt my knee just being silly so I'm in flat shoes tonight.' She opted for a gothic-style look in a black column dress by Salvatore Ferragamo protecting herself against a rainy London night in a black fur shrug by Felder & Felder. Instead of hurrying inside to get dry, Hathaway - aided by a group of minders carrying umbrellas - signed autographs and greeted the hundreds of fans who had waited outside in the pouring rain for a glimpse of their idol. She said: 'I've been rained on and almost tripped on the red carpet.' Determined not to let the rain ruin her big night, Hathaway said she was feeling happy and confident following her high-profile split from long-term love Raffaello Follieri in the summer. Gwyneth...
I think she looks good but looks out of place when they put the photo of Anne Hathaway right next to her

Gwyneth...
I read somewhere this morning that she had flat shoes on because she'd injured her leg. Maybe the long dress was to hide the damage

Girl, 13, who smokes drinks and has sex 'rewarded' by mother with cigarettes
A 13-year-old girl who has had four sexual partners, smokes dope, drinks beer and has been excluded from school 40 times is considered "sweet" by her mother and given cigarettes as rewards for good behaviour. By Aislinn Simpson Last Updated: 11:23AM BST 21 Oct 2008 Tracy Holt, 43, says there are a "lot worse things" her daughter Sam could be doing than smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and believes that because she herself hasn't yet suffered from cancer, "she'll probably be alright anyway". She knows her daughter hangs out with friends in the street, drinking cans of lager and smoking pot, but says she is simply glad Sam is not "a proper drunk" and has not graduated to harder drugs. "I don't see the point in punishing her. If I ground her, I'm just punishing myself because I have to put up with her in the house," she said. "Instead, I reward her good behaviour by giving her cigarettes. If she's bad, she goes without. "She's a little comedian. I let her get away with a lot of cheek. It's sweet." Mrs Holt, a jobless single mother with two other grown-up children who smokes 20 cigarettes a day herself, said giving them out as a reward "works". She said: "There are a lot worse things she could be doing. We've all got to die sometime. I haven't got cancer from smoking so she'll probably be all right anyway." Sam agrees that she will do more around the family home, in Gosport, Hampshire, when bribed. "If Mum tells me to tidy my room, I ignore her but if she offers me a fag, I do it," she said. She admits to having had four sexual partners in less than a year, but told Closer magazine: "I only sleep with boyfriends. I worry about getting pregnant because I don't want kids until I'm married so I always use condoms." Sam lost her virginity when she was 12, and told her mother shortly afterwards. Miss Holt said she was shocked at first but hid her feelings well. "I thought it was a joke, so I laughed," she said. "I was disappointed. No mother wants to know her 12-year-old is having sex but I'm glad she told me. "I didn't show I was angry and just kept it to myself." She went on: "It wasn't a one-night stand. She had been dating the guy for a couple of weeks. I took her to the doctor's the next day to get her on the Pill. I've told her to use condoms." Sam's track record at school leaves a lot to be desired, and she has been excluded for bad behaviour more than 40 times. "Sam got suspended for the first time after she climbed on to the school roof," she said. "I shouted at her and then explained she shouldn't climb on roofs because she could fall off. I didn't know what else to do." She believes her daughter's behaviour is down to the teachers at her school who were "too soft" with her. "Now she is at a special school where there are fewer kids in each class," she said. "Hopefully these teachers will be stricter and she will finally get the discipline that's needed." * The full interview with Sam and Tracy Holt appears in Closer magazine. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/3232521/Girl-13-who-smokes-drinks-and-has-sex-rewarded-by-mother-with-cigarettes.html

Coldplay begins tour leg on grand scale in Ottawa British rockers Coldplay kicked off the North American leg of their world tour at Scotiabank Place last on Monday night, and it sure didn't take long to turn into a joyous singalong as the four band members were caught up in a swell of some 13,000 voices. By song three, singer Chris Martin had every man, woman and youth in the stadium belting along as he bashed an upright piano. After the processional Life in Technicolour and the rocking Violet Hill, two songs from the latest chart-topping disc, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, the familiar hook of the 2002 hit Clocks created a surge of energy in the near sold-out audience. In My Place, another song from the Rush of Blood to the Head disc, had the same effect. With the stage lights up, Martin appeared tickled to see what he and bandmates Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman had created. He bounced across the stage and down each of the two catwalks, bending backwards as he sang, a limber performer whose body was as supple as his voice. Loveable and a bit goofy, the sandy-haired Mr. Paltrow never missed a chance to connect with the audience, sometimes even talking in the middle of a song. Precious, he was not. "We're Coldplay," he said early in the concert, unnecessarily identifying one of the biggest bands in the world. "We really appreciate the fact that all you beautiful Canadians have come out to see a band from miles away. You could have been playing Scrabble or doing homework. We hope to give you some good entertainment." Indeed they did, delivering a career-spanning set with Martin setting an enthusiastic pace. To demonstrate the diversity of the band's catalogue, highlights ranged from Pink Floydian, as in the dark, mystical Speed of Sound, to Supertrampish, as in the stark piano opening of 42 or Lost, a shape-shifting song that has at least three different versions. On Monday night, it morphed from stark intimacy to a throbbing club beat. No longer a wallflower who hides behind his piano, Martin has blossomed into the gregarious host of a magnificient event. It was a concert on a grand scale, complete with artful lighting design, a shower of multicoloured confetti and offshoot staging that helped bring the band members closer to the audience. At one point, the four musicians popped up in the upper stands, delighting the people in the nearby rows, and performed a couple of acoustic songs. For those who were not making an early exit in order to get ahead of the traffic, the ultimate high was a gorgeous rendition of the band's breakthrough song, Yellow, played as an encore, the entire stadium bathed in yellow light. Opening act Stars showed they have a few things in common with Coldplay, starting with a shared penchant for melodramatic pop music. Fronted by the quirky duo of Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan, the Montreal-based band delivered a strong set, except for the brutal sound and tuning problems. The sound was muddy and the vocals out of tune through most of the songs, but they played well nonetheless, their dark, repetitive songs flowing from a whisper to a frenzied wall of noise. The Night Starts Here made the perfect opening to the highly anticipated evening. Ageless Beauty was one of the songs that spotlighted Millan's little-girl voice, while Campbell not only traded verses with her in duet fashion, but also supplied falsetto background harmonies and played keyboards, trumpet and other instruments. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=5ef4c40d-7926-4b21-8938-0d18512235f5

Pete's Oxfam Blog - the Autumn US leg
Coldplay and Oxfam have landed. Here’s one I penned earlier (when I didn’t have access to the internet..) It’s oh so quiet. I just got to the hotel. All I can hear is the slight ringing in my ears (still popping occasionally due to the air pressure changes). Coldplay and Oxfam have landed. I caught the same plane as the band today, back over the pond. We’re back on tour. North America (part 2). Now we find ourselves in Ottawa, Canada. Well, just outside, to be precise. Silence is a rare thing on tour. You know.. when you can actually hear it. Completely quiet. So breathing sounds noisy. Things rarely shut down and switch off, on the road. For about a week or so, the whole crew did just that. Got some silence in their ears. Coldplay have another 20 shows coming up here. Oxfam will have 20 campaigners at each and every one. The first of this leg, and the last in Canada, is tomorrow night. Oxfam Canada are up first. Oxfam will continue to follow this amazing tour, on the personal invitation of this huge band, Coldplay. Their support gives Oxfam a massive opportunity for thousands of their fans to start something with Oxfam. Have a conversation. Sign a petition. Take an action. Pledge support. Take a flyer. See the Oxfam sphere. Go online. Be inspired. Maybe even read a blog.. The band has arrived. I saw them get off the plane. They are ready for another great set of shows. Their fans, i’m sure are ready to make some noise. Oxfam is also ready to make some noise too. But before all that.. i’m going to get back to my silence.. http://www.oxfamblogs.org/coldplay/?p=78 ----------------------------- Show day 1. New tour. New itinerary. New haircuts. Time to get back to work. I’m in a cold-looking corridor again. This one skirts around the bottom of the Scotiabank Center. A 13′000 seater hockey stadium, which usually plays host to the Ottawa Senators. Today’s runner, Eric, told me that they are pretty good. It will be Canada’s last chance to watch Coldplay for a while tonight. Way back in summer, in Toronto, Pemberton and Montreal, the atmosphere was electric. I’m sure that it will be tonight too. The band have had a chance to rest, and i’m sure they will want to come back with a bang. Everyone seems to be walking around with shorter hair today. No more shaggy-dog looks in the crew. The chance to visit your own barbers is another luxury of visiting home for a day or two. It’s all hands on deck today. Lots to do before we head on to Cleveland tonight. Everyone wants it to go off well. Start on a positive, get us rolling again. 20 Oxfam volunteers are fired up and ready for tonight. Let’s hope it’s a good one. http://www.oxfamblogs.org/coldplay/?p=79 ------------------------------------------- Record breakers..? Amazing stuff from the Oxfam campaigners tonight. 1847 signatures collected in just a couple of hours before the Coldplay set. We have a little more time after the set.. so there is a chance, that we could surpass the current ‘world record’ held since Montreal.. (which was 1889). Just think.. all those fans stopping to think about providing people with good quality Health and Education For All. Then signing their name. For Oxfam to take off to the Canadian government, to show that support. All those people then go off to watch a Coldplay show. Can’t be bad can it..? I can hear the last song going on inside.. I had better get back out there. There are people who need to get some school books. There’s a record to be broken. http://www.oxfamblogs.org/coldplay/?p=80
