  1. Wait a minute, Microsoft’s Zune? I know it's impossible, but still... never trust Microsoft. :dozey:
  2. ^ah, that makes sense... I was wondering about it too. Thanks! :)
  3. You can find it here: http://personales.com/espana/madrid/truetypefonts/ttfeng.htm
  4. I still think Radiohead should have made it to the finals... I honestly thought they would win the whole thing. And I still think alot of people got the Beatles here out of guilt rather than genuine support. But you know, if you were going to offer me a choice between listening to a U2 album and a Beatles one, I'd probably go for the Beatles. I do like U2, and I don't know much about British invasion stuff, but I almost always love stuff from that era. Plus, Here Comes the Sun is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Actually it's possible to get sick any time of the year. It's just more likely in the winter because people are more likely to be in confined indoor spaces keeping warm, making transmission easier.
  6. Michel Gondry! :) That should be interesting. Thanks for the heads up.
  7. ^9 Of course all forms of fandom are prone to flame wars, not just music even. I still think live and let live is the best policy- even towards trekkies. Truce ;) ^ hey, 42 is a good number- life, the universe, and everything.
  8. Fine, forget I ever mentioned youtube... my point was that I had a problem with the general ATTITUDE expressed both on the youtube thing and in that you can't vote for Muse and be a Radiohead fan statement and ones following it - not any specific point. I mentioned youtube because I didn't want you to think I was aiming my statements specifically at you- when in fact I'm extremly grateful for all of the cool stuff you post around here and for doing the cup thing because it's been fun. I DO however still stand by my statement that Radiohead fans remind me a bit of Trekkies with their stubborn, scarily irrational degree of devotion. (For the sake of full disclosure this is coming from a convention-going LotR geek- we tend to think of trekkies as a form of pond scum that give honest geeks a bad rep.) edit: That's a cool list! And oos is the best. *nods*
  9. True. Which doesn't bode well for us, because that particular conversation sounds eerily familiar... now where have I seen it before... oh yeah- right here.
  10. Once upon a time when I was a little girl, my parents sat me down and gave me a long speech about how rock music was evil and it was a sign of the end times that people didn't only listen to classical music and that I was a bad person if I ever liked modern music. I've heard that speech many times over the years, and not only from my parents. When I grew up I realised that I really didn't agree with that. Any genre of music is what you make of it. I've heard the __ is bad speech too many times to take it seriously anymore from my parents or overzealous Radiohead fans, because frankly I don't see too much difference between the two camps- different motivation, same idea. Pure snobbery. So you have to understand, I get reeeealy annoyed when people tell me what I'm not supposed to like. Fact is I've taken to Radiohead like no band I've ever come across before in my life. I like it more than almost anything else. I was listening to "Where I end and You Begin" for the first time the other day in complete awe wondering why on earth it took me so many years to finally listen to them- something I really, really, really regret. Now I remember, it's the same reason I don't like Star Trek anymore and don't usually let on that I still like classical music - the fans scare me. Good job, guys. You'd make a Trekkie proud. (and it's not only on this board... check out the comments here- funny reading: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL6R90pmduk )

I like bugs, I think they're facinating. Just as long as I never have to touch them.
  12. I don't know what TO say. I'm devastated. If the second test is positive, it could destroy the sport.
  13. Thanks for reminding me once again why I avoided listening to Radiohead at all for so long. Like I said, pointless. ;)
  14. owowow... what's with all the tough choices in here? I'm tempted to say Muse just to shut up the naysayers who can't seem to keep their negative opinions to themselves, but it's pointless... Fact is I listen to Muse when I want something loud and fun. Meanwhile Radiohead has such a huge range it boggles the mind. So I'm going to go with Radiohead for being endlessly interesting - but it doesn't mean I only 'like' Muse. :P
  15. Not again. http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/story.html?id=29e38bee-7732-45b5-896a-1c6cca13e569&k=4325
  16. :o What a poll! Must....resist...urge....to......totally........geek........out. Oh what the hooey. :freak: :smart: Why don't I explain it this way, I dearly love Star Wars (but not the prequils) but back around '99 or '00 when all of us Tolkien geeks were freaking out about the movies, not knowing if they were going to be brilliant or rancid mockerys, someone wrote the funniest Silmarillion (lotr prequil) spoof I've ever read, "The Filmarillion". I give you an excerpt. The rest is here: http://fan.theonering.net/writing/stories/files/0301_nemo_filmaril.html And in these days came Lucas, who is called the Almost-Spielberg. And Lucas said unto himself, 'Truly hath Roddenberry gone where no man hath gone before; yet a greater thing shall I bring forth than that which was wrought by Roddenberry; and with it shall I make the Megabucks; and all shall tremble when the Megabucks are made.' And Lucas brought forth the Force, and truly made the Megabucks; and Lucas brought the Megabucks unto the Film Executives, and they worshipped them and said, 'Truly art thou king, for the Megabucks art brought forth by thee.' And Lucas brought forth Happy Meals, and plastic action figures, and other wondrous treasures, and offered them unto the Children of the Force, and all were content, and the Megabucks grew greater. Then did the Trekkies make war upon the Children of the Force; but after a time they said among themselves, 'Why war we thus? Truly, some are of the Federation, and others of the Force; yet are we not all Geeks?' And so they ceased to war, and the numbers of the Geeks were doubled, and they filled all the land. And Lucas brought forth the Force again, and yet again, and yet again; and still the Megabucks came unto him. And Lucas said, "Forever shall the Megabucks be mine; and if the people like not Jar Jar Binks, then shall I weep all the way to the bank." But some of the people said, 'Is there not a greater than the Force?' and in answer came Jackson, who is called the Townsend-Sacker. Jackson said: 'A greater song have I than that of Roddenberry, or of Lucas. And if the Megabucks are brought unto me, then shall I bring forth that song from which the Force was partly sprung, and all shall marvel. And Lucas shall bow before me, and likewise Spielberg, who is called The One.'
  17. I think it's just you. I could be wrong, maybe you heard something really buried in the sound, but I didn't hear anything similar.
  18. Actually, for northwestern Europe, the result of global warming could potentially be the opposite. The UK is on the same latitude as Newfoundland, but doesn't have the sort of storms and cold temperatures that Newfoundland does because of the Gulf Stream warming everything up. And global warming seems to be causing the Gulf Stream to stall. I wish I could find some of the original articles I've read over the last couple of years, but this one looks pretty good. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn8398
  19. Weird... I've always associated them more with the cosy acoustic-y side of things- alot of the new stuff sounds too glossy and overproduced to me. I like the new stuff when they do acoustic sessions, though. Meh.
  20. I'm so happy Landis won. He blew my mind the whole tour, riding with a dead arthritic hip just ignoring the pain the whole way. And then to blow the whole field away on the last day of the alps like that... just wow. The white jersey is for the best young rider. It's like the yellow jersey for the under 25 crowd, because most cyclists who win the yellow are in their thirties.
  21. U2 I listen to because I have friends who would throw a hissy fit if I didn't like them. And I do honestly like them, but if I'm going to listen to something I prefer: Muse who I found myself and like in spite of said friends thinking I'm a little mental (actually none of them have even heard of Muse :( ) Muse all the way!
  22. Stars! :D (And they've even gotten a very tiny bit of radioplay thanks to those silly Canadian content laws) It depends on whether you're talking about pop as a genre or pop as a sound. The good pop as far as sound goes seems to have gone a bit underground, but it's still around. Imogen Heap and Broken Social Scene fall into that category, I think. It's not dead, just sleeping. Pop as a genre is kind of hard to pin down because it moves to embrace whatever is popular. Coldplay started out as soft alternative rock, but now most people just refer to them as pop- they actually changed what pop was defined as. Right now, pop is mainly hiphop. Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, whatever. Only time will tell, I guess.
  23. Good job - looks great! Must have been alot of work, doing all of the texture in the paint like that. I did something similar in my room and it took FOREVER, so you sure have my respect.
  24. You're very welcome, Lera, hope I was of some help. Here's my bigger headphones. btw http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRXD200&Dept=audio&CategoryName=pa_Headphones_CDSeriesStudioMonitor Yeah, not everyone will like them, I'm sure, and like I said, I feel queasy flogging any one brand, but I really like these two. I'm sure you could find better ones if you were willing to pay alot more, but I've also had more expensive ones that sucked, so... Honestly, I suffer from the same problem you do, they never fit or they sound terrible or something, so I finally just started telling my tech guru of a brother to pick them out and he's never been wrong yet.
  25. If you want good sound, the main thing to look for is the frequency range. It should be listed in the product details on the back of the package. Cheap headphones usually have something like 20-20,000 hz. The smaller the first number is, the better the bass, and the bigger the top number is, the better the treble. So headphones that say they're 15-20,000 hz ought to have pretty good bass, and ones that are say 8-22,000 or something like that can play much lower tones and should have fantastic sound. Now there will always be people who will point out that the human ear can't hear that wide a range, so what's the point, but what happens is that because they are made to to handle the lower sounds, the range that you can hear sounds much richer and clearer. For the record I generally abhor brand loyalty, so I'm cringing while I'm saying this, but Sony really does make some fantastic (and comfortable) headphones. Their good ones usually cost half as much as similar headphones and have twice the sound. I have two sets of theirs, one the over-the-ear type for my room or the computer, and one set of earbuds for my mp3 player. I really love them. I'll see if I can find the ones I have- give me a minute. edit: here's the earbuds I have- they're really cheap, but sound amazing for the price http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRE818LP&Dept=audio&CategoryName=pa_Headphones_FontopiaEarbud
