  1. goodness Reilly, you sound like you're from Toronto! :stunned:
  2. I try to keep my nose out of political disscussions, but this stuff just scares me out of my wits: http://www.herald.ns.ca/Search/513023.html
  3. What good is a country defending it's freedom if in the process of the defence, the freedom is lost? It's not so much that accounts were being monitered. It's the extent of the monitering. Yeah, not telling the world about the program is good and would have kept some of the dumbest terrorists in the dark for a little longer, but it's being done on the basis that it's only to stamp out terrorism. The problem is the precedent that's being set for the future. The government is asking people to give up their privacy and trust it. Fine for now. But what about the future? What about the day that the government has wrongly turned on a specific group? Who knows what crazyness will pop up with future generations? If you were to zap someone from a hundred years ago here, they would think they were dumped on an alien planet because things have changed so much ideallogically as well as technologically. The same will most likely be true again a hundred years from now. We can't make assumptions about the consequences of current decisions thinking that everyone up top will always be trustworthy and have everyone's best intrests at heart. By opening up something like this for the public to debate, at least there is the hope that the sorts of powers the US government has been taking up in the name of fighting terrorism will not be turned against us any time soon. Maybe this is just classic Christian "they're going to come after us sooner or later" paranoia talking, but that's my two cents. I'd rather not have my kids asking me why my generation gave up on privacy rights out of fear if things turn ugly in the future.
  4. I had to completely stop playing videogames for several years because they were taking over my life. :( It would probably be a good idea to do the same thing with the internet for awhile sooner or later. I don't drink and I've never tried drugs for that very reason- I have trouble cutting back or walking away from things sometimes.
  5. 1 million is a long way off. If you were to average 50,000 posts a year, it would take you 20 years to hit the million mark. That's a long time. Has anyone even hit the 50,000 mark yet? The most I've seen is around 30,000.
  6. He got a little "A" tatooed on his wrist for Apple last summer. He just got an "M" for Moses on his other wrist. If you go to the Q&A on the official site, Debs has confirmed it.
  7. Hey does anyone know who the other guy in the pic is? Could he be one of Chris's brothers?
  8. The Shadowlands One of Anthony Hopkin's most unknown and arguably best performances. It's about the author C.S. Lewis' late in life romance with an American named Joy Gresham.
  9. I DO NOT have an extreme case of it at all! I just made sure all my classes last year started later so I didn't have to wake up before the sun, and I hardly noticed a problem. But yes, for some people who suffer far more than I EVER have, it can be very extreme. Not to sound insensitive, but there is a reason that the suicide rate goes up drastically the further north you look.
  10. Well it's not going to be me... Heh... 700 something in over a year
  11. Good race last weekend. The welcome to Quebec wall seems to have only eaten Montoya- alot less than it did some years. Ha- that never gets old. *SMACK* "Bienvenue au Quebec"!
  12. Since it's all time, has anyone mentioned Mozart yet? :dozey: edit: oh, and don't forget Scott Joplin (ragtime guy)
  13. They're playing it on the radio here - alot! :sick2: I think hell just froze over.

Oi... just when I thought the thread had died for awhile. :freak:
  16. Chris can get great ideas so effortlessly, his problem is that he doesn't seem to recognize what will sound good with a bit of work without help. I think he would go a little nutty without other musicians to collaborate with. I think if he did try something solo, it would sound like Coldplay stuff, just because everything he writes ends up that way, but all the interesting little things like some of Guy's great artsy bass lines would be missing. Not a good idea.
  17. All Good Things - Nelly Furtado and Chris Martin (for about the 20th time today  :D )
  18. Tried that once, soon after I found out I had it. I ended up worse off than I might have been because I hadn't learned how to handle it, and I was far away from the family and friends who kept me sane. It was the culture shock that really did me in, though. We think of Canada and the US being so alike, but it really was a foreign country to me. Top that off with I go a little crazy when I'm away from the sea for very long, and I can't handle hot weather, and I'm just as well off at home.
  19. do you mean that's really sad, or were you pointing out the abbreviation S.A.D.? It's not really that bad for me, I've had it under control for a few years now. Fact is I could leave and head south if I wanted to but I like it too much here. One sunny summer day, and suddenly a whole year of misery evaporates :sunny:
  20. siffler also means "to boo" do you mean they were booing? Wow... that's not very sportsmanlike at all :(
  21. Three words: Seasonal Affective Disorder. aka Hell on Earth. (Though sunlamps help) I can't even escape the rest of the time because when it's really wet for a long time I have trouble staying awake and my joints will hurt.
  22. My sister has her new cd and plays it constanty. Not exactly my thing, but really well done. :)
  23. Space Cadet replied to Albie's topic in The Lounge
...I'll take that as a "no". :disappointed: *sigh*

:dozey:...are we tired of bickering yet.............. Albie seems to only have to mention his existence to get people riled up  :laugh3:
  25. I really don't know what to think of her. Try and Forca are two of my favorite songs. As far as pop princesses go, she was always my favorite (and she's Canadian too  ) but I really don't like where's she's gone. I suppose it's well done, but the whole skanky flirt thing when she used to be so joyously ecclectic... it kind of cheapens her. :(
