MusicOMH blog proposes,"Theirs is the sort of music likely to lead fellow musicians to ask themselves: "Why didn't I think of that?"" Popped Music declares, "there are albums such as this which far outweigh any expectation and really call for your attention." The most exciting aspect of the recent resurgence in Manchester bands, is that unlike the early 90’s Madchester era, the recent crop are devoid of any discernable scene or style to link them together. From Egyptian Hip Hops Talking Heads vibes, to Delphic’s dance beats via I Am Blackbirds delicate folk, each act is trying to create their own bit of musically history. Arguably Manchester most innovative and original band of recent years Everything Everything have created quite a buzz from previous singles’ Suffragette, Suffragette’, ‘Photoshop Handsome’, ‘My Keys Your Boyfriend’, & ‘Schoolin', all of which are included on Man Alive the bands eagerly awaited debut. Ask any reviewer of music and they will tell you that they will traditionally find an obvious influence in the bands sound, a common ground that’s used in both reference and reflection as to how they have channeled this influence to create something unique. In the case of Everything Everything, is a band so annoyingly original and forward thinking that this is easier said then done. Man Alive is a complete piece from a band dipping their toes into calypso jives, euphoric dance beats, angular rock and everything in between, with each song offering its own master class in how it should be done. Yep, it’s pretty sickly that this confident progressive sound is that of a band in the infancy of their career. With Previous singles such as the warm electro of ‘My KZ, UR BF’, to ‘Schoolin’s deeper R&B vibe Jonathan’s vocals are rapid and concise with a voice as individual as the music. ‘QWERTY Finger’, is insanely complex, and diverse, switching between synth, guitar, fast, slow. It’s a lot to digest, but worth every second. ‘Leave The Engine Room’, is the bands big dance number, reserved for the last dance of the night territory, with its minimal chilled out vibe. Its perhaps doing the lads a disservice, to choose a favorite from what’s on offer, on an album deficient in filler, but ‘Suffragette, Suffragette’ narrowly takes this mantle. What was the bands debut single back in 2008, still proves to be one of those tracks you revisited on many occasions. Man Alive is not just a rousing debut, which is equally as good headphone music as it will be in clubs throughout the country, its Everything Everything’s statement of intent, and a grand two finger salute to upcoming acts who consider themselves innovative. The result leaves most of these contemporaries feeling that after this, its back to the drawing board. _____________________________________________________________________ 'My KZ Ur BF' is the school-boy-spelt opener on Manchester's latest musical misfits Everything Everything's debut album, 'Man Alive' - however this isn't an album full of youthful adolescence, ignoring the countless girlfriend references, but instead a creative and captivating offering and insight into everybody's new favourite band. After a mere quarter spin of their LP, it's easy to see why their name was penned on so many 'ones to watch' lists at the start of the year, and why they're now climbing up the indie-ladder (and soon to be charts) at an almost alarming rate. The man behind the microphone, known as Johnathan Everything, dictates his only self-set rule of making music as "not to sound like anyone else”, a rule the band have decided not to follow, but instead live by - 'Man Alive' creates a sound which is as unique to the music scene as a persons fingerprint is to the rest of the world. 'Suffragette Suffragette', a quirky pop hit mixing high pitched harmonies and a rather heavy guitar riff juxtaposed with a sweet set of vocals during the chorus, was their debut single and the air bubble which also helped them surface. Staying true to the bands Mancunian roots, the majority of the album is filled with upbeat disco floor-fillers with the lyrics at times almost uninterpretable, but when you're dancing until your feet fall off that isn't the biggest of your worries (plus you can always partake in the ongoing backing vocals). 'Come Alive Diana' sounds almost like a demo, but the sort which later that day would sign you the record deal of your life. 'Final Form' is a chance for Jonathan and co. to show their sweeter side, with the softest of vocals and even softer harmonies, followed by 'Nasa Is On Your Side' which mixes everything previously mentioned but with Elton John, in spirit, on keys. Mid-album track 'Schoolin'' plays host to one of the most distinguishable openings a song could ask, with only a simple five note whistle; it's as infectious as a Derren Brown mind trick and will make you subconsciously, if you're not already consciously, tap along (or maybe even whistle if you feel so bold). 'Leave The Engine Room' then follows in an octave so high you'd need a Yellow Pages to try to reach it, whilst 'Photoshop Handsome' sounds like it has been produced by the sound-tracker of Sonic The Hedgehog, using a Sega Megadrive. Although Everything Everything could actually be described and compared to everyone and everything, due to the vast array of sounds and styles throughout the twelve-track album, the key thing to remember is they aren't any of them - but are in fact are everything and anything they want to be, thus creating an album which stands out as a result of its pure honestly and creativity, deserving of a space in any music retailer or lovers discography. Arcade Fire Hit Number One They did it, folks-- more people bought Arcade Fire's third album, The Suburbs, than any other album in the United States last week. The news comes courtesy of their label, Merge, and label mates Spoon, who Tweeted, "Let the record reflect that Merge Records is the NUMBER ONE LABEL IN THE USA! Here's to Arcade Fire and Merge: #1 -- 156k copies sold." This comes after news of the group triumphing over the UK album charts this week as well, according to Billboard. This is the band's first chart-topping album in the U.S. Their last LP, Neon Bible, debuted at number two. Independent rock music is pretty popular now, apparently!
