Furious jazz fans are staging a protest outside tonight's (20 Sep 2006) Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards after the genre was sensationally scrapped from the prize categories. The peaceful public protest will see hundreds line the streets outside London's Royal Albert Hall later today, where the ceremony is being held. Trumpeter/vocalist Abram Wilson, who has organised the rally, will lead a ten-piece band outside the venue as stars including Jamelia, Lemar, Letoya Luckett, Sway and Roots Manuva arrive. Beyonce Knowles, who leads the nominations with mentions in four categories, is also rumoured to be attending. A statement from the protestors insists, "The removal of the jazz category undermines the original spirit of the MOBO awards, and ignores the place of jazz in the heritage of black music and its influence on all other forms of popular music. Pop star Bjork is to rejoin her former bandmates in The Sugarcubes for a one-off concert in Iceland. The gig in November will mark the group's 20th anniversary, according to a statement on the singer's website. The Sugarcubes became darlings of the music press after they formed in 1986, and had a top 20 single in the UK with Hit in 1992. But the band split soon after when Bjork left to pursue her successful solo career. Her solo album, Debut, spawned five hit singles and earned the singer two Brit awards. Label benefit She has gone on to record four more albums, as well as two film soundtracks, and performed at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympics. Profits from the Sugarcubes reunion concert will go to the band's own record label, Bad Taste. It is one of the most important labels in Iceland, releasing albums by other renowned bands such as Sigur Ros and Gus Gus. there's a minimum of 50 songs and albums, you don't have to choose 100 ;) actually i don't think it's hard to find 100 songs or albums that you like, it might be harder to rate and organize them

Wire is disgusted at the money and attention given to newer bands, accusing recording companies of allowing them to peak too soon. And he insists older acts such as Blur and Radiohead are examples of bands that only released their best material on their third or fourth albums. well it was like heaven...even better: heaven with soundtrack the opening acts were good (an electronic jazz group and Amina), but they didn't even come close to Sigur Ros. i was totally lost in time then...i knew that i entered the hall around 8:30 PM and that's all...the show ended at 1 AM and i was full of energy in that moment...too bad we (my mom and dad came too, though they went to casino lol) arrived at 6 AM at home and at 7 i had to go to school lol :o the atmosphere at the gig was indescribable. you HAVE TO see Sigur Ros...the show was full of emotions, they really gave away everything. i can't think of too many bands who are better than Sigur Ros live... i'm quite sure they'll visit Israel once, too ;) after all Radiohead performed 3 times in Israel in 2000 :P so why not Sigur Ros?
