  1. i liked Trials of Van Occupanther also. :)
  2. i hope my mixtape creator did not miss my review: here it is: http://coldplaying.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3941633&postcount=760  I'm formerly known as no_wow by the way!
  3. thanks. by torpedo or crohn's is one of my favorites, i didn't know for sure why i chose these few presidents for this one. i guess i'm a bit hesitant if the one i'm giving my mixtape will like the style in that one (you, know rap). i'm glad you like the alaska in winter addition. it's nice that you're a fan of the xx and sunset rubdown too. as for sunset rubdown, i know that it will take some time getting used to spencer krug's voice, but even if people don't like his style, they should at least take a look at his wicked songwriting skills. :)
  4. Here's my review. Thanks for the person who sent this. This truly made my day! 1. What a way to start a mix. I love string instrumentals. This track could be a soundtrack to a great adventure movie. The string solo at the end is familiar, I just don’t where I heard that. 2. Choir voices. I think this is a continuation of the first song because of the same melody. The singers sure do love the orchestra. I love the energy exuded in this one. The string parts are great. The harmony between male and female vocals are terrific. I would love to know more about the artist. Could this be an indie artist? 3. Latin-style guitar work. I’m liking this one. Full of energy. Could be Rodrigo y Gabriela. I’m not sure though as I’m not too familiar with the artist. The combination of wicked guitars and vibrant drums and quieter parts give texture to this track. Though it’s instrumental, I did not find it boring at all. 4. From very energetic, this track is very mellow acoustic. The voice is familiar, for a while he reminds me of the guy from Snow Patrol, but I’m certain its not him, because of the second voices and harmonies. I kind of like it, even though it’s not my most favorite style of music. Ok, at the end of the song, I’m beginning to think the artist is Jason Mraz(?) Hope I’m right. 5. Ooh, those voices. Like the second one, but this time more folky. It something that could have been sung in the sixties or seventies. I’m sure it’s from a recent group. But they’re surely doing a good job making this one a bit retro. The song is calming and soothing, maybe because of the great harmonies. This is the sort of music that I would listen from time to time. Guitar solos are great too, it provides depth. Nice fade out in the end. I would like to know who’s responsible for this song! 6. Another slower song. Sort of like the fourth song. But slower. However, come 0:40 seconds or so, the tempo picked up finally into a pop-rock/alternative effort. I’m not much of a fan of the voice, it’s kind of thin and raspy. But I really like the rock elements in this one. I didn’t expect that initially. I really thought it will be mellow all throughout. 7. Weird music at the start, with choir-like male voices. It reminds me of Kammerflimmer Kollektief, but I’m sure it’s not because though the lyrics (?) are from a different language (African perhaps?). Despite that, there’s something mysterious and dark about the melody, like a sense of foreboding. I couldn’t really understand anything, but I like it. I imagine myself listening to this while having coffee on a warm evening. 8. It starts heavy. Quite lively. Then it became sort of psychedelic. Maybe it’s because of the synths. Then there’s this voice. I’m digging the voice, really. The accent is quite nice, is it British? Reminds me of the good new UK bands. The melody gives a positive vibe. Makes me happy. Lol. It went a bit softer in the middle, which is a nice transition. Then it finished strong. I like this song. 9. A combination of strings and piano. This song has a great happy energy in it. Sadly, I’m not too fond of the voice. The vocals remind me of Okkervil River, but it’s softer and I guess, weaker. However, I appreciate the melody. I’m sucker for piano and strings. 10. Vampire Weekend definitely. The style is unmistakeable. The ultimate summer song for me. Beach, surf, warm wind, pina coladas...life is good! LOL. I truly enjoy this song, thanks for adding one that I am able to identify with. A-Punk! 11. The sound of birds at the start made me think of ambient music. But there are strings here! And the voice! Is this a traditional song? About the good times in England? This might be my favorite in the lot, the voice alone tempted me to google the artist. But I won’t. I want to preserve the suspense. Thanks for adding this one, I would love to know more about the artist. 12. Simple guitars at the opening, and maybe, accordion (?) The voice is very familiar, I could not place it at this time, though. I’m racking my brains in this one. I’m sure I’ve listened to this artist before, but it’s embarrasing that I can’t place it. 13. Good female vocals. A bit country I think. Then there’s this male vocals. Harmonies are nice. I love the interplay of low and high voices here, provides texture. It picks up near the middle, then it became quieter again. Not a boring song at all. Not my favorite, but it’s decent. 14. Strings that reminds me of Owen Pallett is always a good thing. But this one’s grander, like it’s another movie soundtrack. Then it became a bit dark, like stuff that Muse does. Is this Muse? The voices remind me of such band, plus the eerieness and orchestral elements in this one. 15. Smokey-jazz sounding female vocals. Kind of slow, but that’s the point. Sorry, it’s a bit bland for me. Maybe I’m not just into this kind of music. 16. Church bells and sad instrumental. It’s very short and I was not able to make a great impression of it. Thanks for this mixtape! I totally enjoy the experience. I like many of the songs!
  5. you can call me Gail! you're welcome and i thank you for listening to my mix with open ears and mind! for some reason, i find that the better Arcade Fire songs were mainly sung by Regine. I just love her voice, so heartfelt. yes, track 10 was sort of an aberration. lol. just kidding. it was made for the six feet under soundtrack, i think, so that explains why it is a bit different from the usual. zach condon was only a guest in the song. the only song i really love in alaska in winter's album, dance party in the balkans. cheers for no. 6. he's really talented!
  6. here's the link to the mixtape: http://sharebee.com/67409fcd Get Well Soon - Dear Tempest-Tossed, Dear Weakened The singer's voice also reminds me of Chris Martin! I'm glad you like it. I included this song on the 3rd Mixtape Exchange, I cannot NOT add it this time as it's just one of those rare complex songs that sticks with you no matter what you do. Why? - These Few Presidents Why? is some sort of indie-rap outfit based in California. Xiu Xiu - Yo Yo Bye Bye (Why? Cover) It's an interesting song. I don't know, but I don't mind listening to it ten times in one sitting. I understand why you didn't like the singer. He's the kind that grows into you, IMO. Julian Plenti - Unwind Sung by Paul Banks, the lead singer of Interpol. Alaska in Winter - Close Your Eyes - We Are Blind (featuring Zach Condon) Zach's voice is unmistakable. I'm glad you like this one. Owen Pallett (previously known as Final Fantasy) - The Chronicles of Sarnia Death from Above 1979 - Black History Month (Girl on Girl feat. Final Fantasy Revision) The string parts were also done by Owen Pallett. I'm happy that you like his work. This Town Needs Guns - Crocodile Your review like an expert! :) I'm not really good at technical stuff, so I don't have any idea about flats and Gs. But thanks for appreciating this tune. :) Sunset Rubdown - Silver Moons It's OK not to like Sunset Rubdown. I hated the band with passion at first, but it grew on me. Interpol - Direction I admit this is not the usual Interpol stuff. But I like its simplicity. The XX - Basic Space Handsome Furs - Handsome Furs Hate This City Arcade Fire - Haiti Haunting song. And very relevant nowadays. :) :) The Twilight Sad - That Summer, At Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy I love the accent. I'm glad you appreciate this one! Shearwater - The Snow Leopard One of my all-time favorites. I'm very very happy that you generally like the mix. Thanks for listening. You made an awesome review of it! for easy viewing, here's the list: 1. Dear Tempest-Tossed, Dear Weakened! - Get Well Soon 2. These Few Presidents - Why? 3. Yo Yo Bye Bye - Xiu Xiu (Why? cover) 4. 19. He's Final Fantasy no more. Final Fantasy Name Change to Owen Pallett Owen Pallett has announced that he will no longer be using the name Final Fantasy for his musical work. Owen Pallett’s breathtaking new album ‘Heartland’ will be available on Domino on Monday the 18th of January 2010. Owen has issued the following statement: Friends, I began playing solo violin shows in 2004. Although it was essentially a solo project, I named the band Final Fantasy, as the experience--and the tone of the material--was reminiscent of the hours and hours I had spent as an adolescent playing those epic JRPGs. But the laws of trademark infringement exist for good reason, and so I am voluntarily retiring my band name. In the new year, my record Heartland is coming out, and it is my first to be released in many territories, including Japan. With this in mind, I feel it is in my own best interests to definitively distinguish my music from Square/Enix's games. So, I am no longer playing shows as Final Fantasy. Subsequent releases, including Heartland, will be issued under my own name, Owen Pallett. Prior releases will sometime soon be re-packaged and re-issued. I thank Square/Enix their kindness and support, and I thank you all for your understanding. Salud! http://www.dominorecordco.com/uk/news/18-12-09/final-fantasy-name-change-to-owen-pallett/

  22. I agree with you. I did the exact thing. What I did is to select a really good track from the artist which I think might create a good impression and will sustain interest in knowing the artist even more (granting that he/she has not heard of it yet).
