  1. Eh, didn't really think of either U2 or Radiohead listening to it. The closest I can relate is that the beginning sounds like some of the more guitar-heavy stuff from Hail to the Thief.
  2. The effects are the best part of this song. Seriously, with headphones on, I was blown away. The guitar solo feels like a legitimate climax now. 8/10
  3. Not sure I can follow any sort of argument here because (1) you mention LiJ having "great" lyrics when they exhibit Chris at his laziest, and (2) you complain about the new lyrics being abstract but profess a love for Violet Hill, which is probably about as "abstract" as Coldplay gets, although off the top of my head I can't think of anything I'd definitely call abstract aside from Rainy Day and Only Superstition.
  4. A so-called "lost generation" is a common phrase, most often associated with those growing up during/after WWI. Given Martin's interest in the children of Nazi Germany, "I don't want to see another generation drop" probably means that he doesn't want to see another generation erased/forgotten/etc. In other words, nonsensical trash!
  5. Eh, just scanning the list I'm pretty sure twistedpolitik and woohoo37 voted non-seriously too. So, voila, it didn't "win." And we really have no idea since it was open to guests as well. But you're right, some really "stupid" people like this band. I'm not sure what that says. Every band has these kinds of fans.
  6. You're right. I'm sure Briggins, for instance, voted honestly.
  7. Yeah, lol at using this poll as some kind of ammunition. 75% did NOT vote for ETIAW. Have a look at the names of most of the 25% that did. I mean, really, this is beyond ridiculous now.
  8. Uh, yeah. The fact that some people even thought I could be serious shows how ridiculous this whole "Coldplay copies everything!" notion has become. As I said in another thread:
  9. Thank God they made a shift after X&Y. My favorite Coldplay album for a really long time was AROBTTH, but VLV surpassed it. I appreciated the life and color of the new stuff. To each his own. Also, this kind of thinking is completely absurd: "Of course theres no denying [Viva] was a great album, but not a good Coldplay album."
  10. Perhaps he meant that it's weak and not indicative at all of the rest of the album.
  11. It's a cool story, and an interesting "problem." Thanks for sharing it. Never met anyone whose favorite song is Daylight. Would give quite a lot to hear that played live again.
  12. I'm drafting a letter to Billy Corgan so the court proceedings can begin ASAP. It's time to take a stand against Chris Martin's blatant disregard for the creative process and integrity in general. I'm also running filters on Coldplay's back catalog against my iTunes library to find any plagiarism we may have missed.
  13. Chelsea's right. This line is somewhat thoughtful. Please see the entirety of X&Y for a goldmine of inane couplets.
  14. MasoKnight replied to Marcoldplayer's topic in Major Minus
The missing part in falsetto sounds like: Here I'm climbing the steps/stairs I got my left side by you While my right hides under a chair
  15. Indeed, you're right! :P I'm just starting to feel sorry for the members that are getting so upset about the obviously contrived discussions. FWIW, this question is actually pretty tough once I omit ETDIAW and Wonderwall.
  16. Ah, it wasn't a response merely to this thread. But it seems clear to me that a good amount of posts are being made simply to generate and then laugh at the (over)reactions of those who like ETIAW. But, yeah, I'd say this topic fits the definition: "In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."
  17. I honestly can't remember: is there a TOS for the coldplaying forums? And if so, can users be banned for trolling and flaming?
  18. Probably either Hurts Like Heaven or Charlie Brown. Way too soon to talk about Princess of China. I love most of Major Minus, but the solo at the end doesn't do much for me. ETIAW is fun, and I could see myself actually liking it as an album closer, but it's not as compelling as the other material. Whatever the case, it's definitely NOT Us Against the World. I don't quite get the love for that one. It's quiet and intimate like See You Soon or Til Kingdom Come or Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground, but it's also a lot less interesting. The nostalgia for old Coldplay is coloring the lenses, I think. Edit: Well, after a few more listens UAW is creeping up on me.
  19. Lyrics seem inspired by Arcade fire. Car keys, downtown, wild, etc.
  20. I gave it a 5 or 6 earlier. But here's pretty much the best thing I can say about it. My day turned out to be pretty shitty, and listening to the song just now made it miles better. It does have that quality of making you feel good, if you can let go of your pretensions for four minutes and have fun.
  21. 5 new songs, ay? Well, we should definitely get a quality video or two soon. Edit: So does Vicki's tweet mean there were seven listed on paper and they only played five? Or that they followed the setlist exactly?
