27-Jun- 2008: The TODAY Show Reviews/Photos/Videos
Haha, okay! :) I got there at about 5:45, and met up with Christa, who is now my favorite person in the world. We got our passes and were escorted to the VIP area. I couldn't believe how close we were! Unfortunately, I am reallllyyyy short (4 feet 11 inches) and there were a couple of really tall guys in front of me. Fortunately, they took mercy on me and let me squeeze up in front of them. It wasn't like I was going to block their view. :laugh3: I was probably about 2 or 3 people back from the barrier during the sound check. It was incredible! I noticed Will come out of the building right away (he was the first to come out) and I was so in shock that he just walked out a few feet away from me and just walked up onto the stage to chat with the tuning guys that I couldn't even yell or anything. I think he was up there a good 30 seconds before people started noticing he was there (or in some, non-Coldplaying people's cases, noticed he was a member of the band :P). A couple minutes later Jonny and Guy came out. At that point I seriously did not believe what was happening. Finally Chris came out and everybody started getting really excited (I was still in shock). They played the sound check, and that was the coolest thing in the world to watch. I loved watching them rehearse and test things out, and it was amazing that they were up there on stage without it being a big production like it usually is on the tour stops. It felt so much more intimate and raw to watch them warm up and mess up and then overall put on a really great show. After the sound check, a bunch of people who had "connections" at NBC moved into the area between the VIP section and the stage, which annoyed me a little bit, but once again someone took mercy on me and let me move in front of them. It was funny, this girl was like, you seem like a really big fan and I feel bad that you can't see. She wasn't even that tall, but she let me go in front of her. :D That was so nice of her, and it made me really happy. Then the real set started, and the boys came back out in their revolutionary outfits. They started off with In My Place, and I was absolutely in shock every time Chris came out on the little catwalk that extended into the crowd. He was SO close to me. It was incredible. I took a ton of pictures and a couple of videos the whole time until my battery died. After the show ended they did rush us out, and I parted ways with Christa. I was heading back down the sidewalk until I saw guards putting up barriers by one of the exits, and people were saying the band would come out there! There were all these limos and town cars parked right on the curb there, and one even had a sign in the window that said "Coldplay." So I waited there for about 45 minutes (and met StephBerryman! :D) but then the guards took down the barriers and said the band had already left. I was a little bit disappointed because I had my camera and autographing stuff ready, but it was still an amazing show, so I really didn't mind. There was this guy from TMZ there with a camera who was saying he wanted to ask Chris about that other song that sort of vaguely sounds like Viva la Vida. I was pretty annoyed about that, because chances are he was going to be very confrontational, make Chris and the band angry, and ruin everyone's chances of getting an autograph or a picture. What a jerk. So in that way I'm kind of glad they didn't come out that way, because it wouldn't have been any fun if they were in a bad mood thanks to some asshole paparazzi guy. So overall, it was an INCREDIBLE morning!!!! I doubt I will have the chance to get that close to the band ever again (at least not until the very distant future). I loved meeting a couple of you guys, and I really hope we can all see Coldplay together again one day!!! Here is a link to my photos from today: http://picasaweb.google.com/smichelson5/ColdplayOnTheTodayShow I'll embed some of the best photos in a little bit! And I'll post my videos to YouTube or Facebook or something.

I'm finally fully conscious and uploading my photos. When I'm done with that I will put the couple of videos that I took up somewhere as well. I think I got some good ones. :)

Ah! That last Chris picture is HYSTERICAL! I love it! I have a funny one of him too (though not as great as that one) but I will post them later. Right now I need to nap and catch up on all the sleep I didn't get last night. Oh well. It was totally worth it. :D

What a fantasticccc morning! I am still in awe, because who knows if I'll ever be that close them again? Thanks again Christa (times a MILLION) for inviting me along! As soon as I get the pictures posted I will put up a link or something... I got some pretty good ones.

I am sososososososo pumped. Didn't have a chance to make a sign though. My (real) name is Sarah, by the way. Say hi! I'll be wearing a blueish/green tank top, knee-length denim shorts, and birkenstock sandals. :) I'll be getting in around 5:30 AM, probably before Christa (who is bringing me as her guest) so I guess I will be wandering around outside before she gets there. :D Can't wait to see everyone (and COLDPLAY of course) in less than seven hours!!!!!!!!!

50 isn't that many, really. I'm sure we will all have a fantastic view. But I think the shortest should get to go to the front. ;)

I live in Western Suffolk too (Huntington)! Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere nearby to stay tonight. I'll be taking a train around 3:30 AM. Oh well- by the time I get to Coldplay, I'll be completely woken up. Clearly it is worth it to wake up so early to see them so close (I'm going with Christa1! :D)!!!!! I can't wait until tomorrow and to meet everybody from here. :)

02-Aug-08: Hartford - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos [originally 03-Jul]
I would be up for a meet up before the show (afterwards is not so good since it's a long ride home). If anyone knows of a good (cheap?) dinner spot near the venue that could be a good place to go beforehand. When it gets closer to the date I suppose we could work out details to know how to spot each other, since I would definitely love to meet some fellow Coldplayers!

23-Jun-08: New York - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
As I was entering last night, I overheard some guy say to his friend that he was getting in to the show just fine until security asked him if he had a wristband, and since he didn't have one they wouldn't let him any further. Maybe that was their form of "extra security" instead of checking every single ID? Either way, I am never, ever taking mine off. I will wait for it to disintegrate, even if means I will get a weird tan line. Oh man, that show was FABULOUS! Viva la Vida was the most epic thing I have ever heard in my life, and GPASUYF rocked way harder than I ever thought was possible. The people in my section were not nearly as into it as my friend and I were, and I think we shocked them a bit by being the most severely intense Coldplay fans in the area! Every time I've seen them they just are even better than the last time. Last night I kept thinking about how lucky I am that I live in a place where I have such easy access to great concerts in NYC and Long Island. Sometimes I think we take for granted that it's so easy for us to get to a famous venue like MSG. I am so lucky to have been able to see Coldplay in NYC, essentially the center of the universe, 3 times (and another time out on the island :)). We are all so lucky to have been there, especially for a free show I would have gladly paid large sums of money for. However, what we should be most grateful for is that we were all there to experience the world premiere of the MAGIC BALLS! Take that away with you, if nothing else. :laugh3:

There are a LOT of them near MSG, it might be hard to all meet at the same one! :laugh3: Here are some in the area though: http://www.starbucks.com/Retail/Find/LocatorResults.aspx?fs=1&loc=madison%20square%20garden|40.750322437454265|-73.9929965618789

What song initially turned you onto Coldplay?
I remember really liking The Scientist from hearing it on the radio late at night. Soon after I watched the Grammys and saw them perform Politik with the NY Philharmonic. The next day I went out and bought AROBTTH. :D
-
23-Jun-08: New York - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
Yeah, Politik and Green Eyes! I can't believe I forgot to mention those. :laugh3: There are just too many great songs to choose from. If I cared about the setlist too much, I'd never be happy until they just play every single song they have. :D

23-Jun-08: New York - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
I think it will be longer- Coldplay will be going back to London and Barcelona (I think) on the regular tour, so I bet they will play longer sets there then. But since this is so far their only NY date, hopefully they will play a longer set so as not to short-change all their NY fans! I listened to the Brixton show and I thought it sounded awesome (especially the acoustic version of Yellow!) but I was hoping here a few other songs that they've played on other tours like The Scientist, Everything's Not Lost, and SHIVER!!! :D

23-Jun-08: New York - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
Yeah... I wonder if the people who won tickets from other ways (like from PLJ) got wristbands. If they didn't, I wonder why they are distinguishing the Coldplay contest winners from other winners? AAAH the anticipationnnnn. :D

They censored the VLV album artwork!
I wanted to go to Circuit City for the t-shirt, but when I got there I discovered it had gone out of business!!! I was not very happy about that... luckily there's a Best Buy directly across the street. Oh, the wonders of living on Long Island... :laugh3:
-
New York show winners are ....
Haha sure, but first on my song request agenda would be Shiver!! :laugh3: And seriously, don't chicken out. It's COLDPLAY. I mean, duh, everyone here knows what that means. I bet they're really nice in person. And Guy is probably even hotter in real life. ;)

New York show winners are ....
I know, I would probably really embarrass myself too. But oh my godddd, I would love to see them/ talk to them for a second pre-show. I might have to do it.
