I'm just gunna do the good ones, or rather the ones I still have on my iTunes:
Animal Collective
I have a love/hate relationship with this band, I think they are the most pretentious things ever. But they do have some good songs, my Girls, Summertime Clothes, Fireworks and What Would I Want? Sky being the standout ones. I really want to like them, but I just find them boring for the most part, if they made more songs like the ones I like, I'd be thrilled
Arctic Monkeys
I've liked them since 2005 but with their new album, they firmly secured their place as my favourite band, it's just brilliant. (not so much live though)Top songs: My Propeller + The Jeweller's Hands
Asobi Seksu
Shoe gaze, but Japanese. Alright, I probably wont listen to them much next year but they have some nice songs. Check out New Years + Thursday
Bat For Lashes
I want to get into this album more than I have, it's undoubtedly great, Siren Song is my favourite.
Battles
Technically heard them first last year, but whatevs. They are just absolutely brilliant and I would pay more money than usual to see them live, really can't understate the genius of this band.
The Beatles
With the aide of the Remasters I completely fell in love with The Beatles, I just kinda liked them before 2009, but now I love them. Abbey Road is a pretty much perfect album.
The Black Keys
Really great at what they do, I'd suggest a listen if you like "rock"
Blakroc
This band features the previous band + a handful of fine hip-hop artists, but most importantly RZA, who I think is an absolute genius, really good album. It also features the 2nd best song about vaginas ever in "Coochie"
Camera Obscura
Another I intend to listen to more than I have this year, really great music though, the singer has a lovely voice.
Dan Deacon
His album Bromst is a bit good, I find it hard to be in the right mood to listen to it, but when I am it really is great.
Dananananaykroyd
Best band name of the year and probably the best (well judged on fun) live band of the year too, I just had a big grin on my face the whole time seeing them play live, songs worth checking out are Black Wax + The Greater Than Symbol and the Hash
Danimal Kingdom
Has one of the cutest and freshest songs I've heard in ages in "Through The Ice" you wont be able to find it though, so if you want it PM me and I will oblige an uploaded link
The Dead Weather
The album isn't as amazing as I'd hoped it would be but there are a handful of songs that make it well worth a listen including the amazing Treat Me Like Your Mother and the rather good Hang You From The Heavens, their cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric" is also well worth a listen
Deerhunter
I find it hard to really appreciate them. I really like Nothing Ever Happened.
Department of Eagles
Basically Grizzly Bear Jr, No One Does It Like You is an amazing song and the album In Ear Park is worth a go if you want Grizzly Bear without listening to Grizzly Bear
DJ Shadow
Part of my abstract hip-hop phase, his album Entroducing... is worth a listen, but if you want to get into this kind of stuff I'd much rather suggest J Dilla.
Dutch Uncles
None of you will know them, unless I told you about them. Really great band from Manchester, their song "Jetson" is one of my highlights of the year, same as Danimal, PM me if you want a link
Final Fantasy
I need to listen more, he has a new album that just leaked so it may inspire me to put more interest into him, he worked with Zach Condon on Beirut stuff, he's great, just need to listen more
Flaming Lips
Their new album is scary, Convinced of the Hex is an absolutely amazing opener.
Franz Ferdinand
New album is good, but ultimately not very lasting.
Grizzly Bear
Brilliant band
Hercules and Love Affair
I've known this band for a couple of years now, but only discovered one of their B-Sides which is amazing, It's called "Shadows" so good
The Horrors
Mirror's Image is a great album, really affirmed the band as actually talented and not just riding on hype. Saw them live though and the old stuff is so much better live, stand out song is without a doubt Sea Within A Sea
I Heart Hiroshima
Really great, underrated band, their new album The Rip is filled with amazing pop songs "Shakeytown" being my favourite
J Dilla
I mentioned him earlier, the man's a genius. Donuts is the album he released a few days before he died and his genius lives on through that album, what a man.
Jay-Z
Empire State of Mind, glorious song
Johnny Foreigner
Good little band, I'm actually not amazingly keen on the album they released this year, but it helped me get into their first album a lot more.
Julian Casablancas
Sadly for Jules I think this album is good but really forgettable, GO MAKE A STROKES ALBUM
Kasabian
New album is filled with good songs which are even better live, good band
Lady Gaga
Bad Romance is a song and a half, plus she's an interesting and hilarious character, I salute her for being eccentric.
Late of the Pier
Can't believe I first heard them this year, they are so established into my listening catalog that it seems like they have been here for years, great band.
LCD Soundsystem
Again it's more a case of I fell in love with him this year, so so so so so amazing, new album next year, if it's anything short of brilliant I will be very shocked.
Le Loup
For the most part, meh. 2 songs though Outside Of This Car, The End Of The World! and We Are Gods! We Are Wolves! are really great
Los Campesinos!
Their new album is brilliant, great band who have really progressed over time.
Lost Knives
My internet-friend's band, but I think they might actually get famous, good songs
Memory Tapes
Beautiful album. Stop Talking being a personal highlight
Metric
New album is good and Emily Haines is mesmerising live
Metronomy
Got into them last year, but they really achieved the "genius" label this year, what a band.
mewithoutYou
As a tri-religious rock band, they should not be good. They are however amazing.
Múm
Dancing Behind My Eyelids is such a good song
of Montreal
Gay beyond belief, but really great.
Phoenix
Only really listen to 2 of their songs, but I love them both
Portico Quartet
Wont be for everyone but Paper Scissors Stone is genius
Slagsmålsklubben
Swedish Techno-Pop they have some awesome songs though
St. Vincent
Actor Out Of Work <3
Sufjan Stevens
His new album is really great, but I am dying to see the movie that goes with it.
Them Crooked Vultures
No One Loves Me & Neither Do I, great song
White Denim
Love the album Workout Holiday
White Rabbits
Really underrated and talented band. Percussion Gun and Kid On My Shoulders <3
Wu-Tang Clan
I'm so gangsta I have a Wu t-shirt on now, mainly for the amazing producing of RZA they are a really great hip-hop "crew". They also have the best song ever about vaginas in "Gravel Pit"
Xiu Xiu
Unlike most things I've ever heard and hilarious lyrics, good and interesting band
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Brilliant album.
Yeasayer
New album is so good, this is what a lot of pop music tries and fails to sound like.
鷺巣詩郎
Completely fell in love with the EVA soundtracks this year
I have a few more I could have done, but err yeah/
