WHAT! u live in Center City? like...near Jefferson? I wish! I live just on the other side of the Schuylkill river in Powelton Village. (I have no idea why I'd think that you would have any idea where that is, living a couple thousand miles away, but you at least know Thomas Jefferson University *shrugs*)

I can't even remember the last time I watched a game in which Calgary was the home team. I'm very much an east-centered hockey fan.

Oh, I'll "meet" them all right. ;) Actually, one time I happened to be walking past the fancy hotel downtown where most famous people stay and John Elway of all people walked out of the front and into a limo.

Turkish Delights .....
Which ones do I go to? Well, my favorites around here are AKA Music (which is the best of them all because it's cheapest, has the best selection, and is closest to the subway stop), Spaceboy Music, Philadelphia Record Exchange, and... this other one on South St. whose name I forget, which are all conveniently located within a 7 or 8 block area in Old City, and The Marvelous, which is a little more expensive (has about your average Tower Records prices) but is only a ten minute walk from where I live. All of those stores also have huge selections of cheap used vinyl, which is another reason I like them.

any of you bassists play a
I was going to say that nobody really needs a five string bass unless they're in a metal band. :P If you want a heavier sound, just find the little knob on your amp that says "bass" (or 100-250 Hz if you've got a parametric EQ) and crank it up! :P

Hullo ev1!!! :-)
I'll keep that in mind. I do find it funny that you simply tipped your cap instead of giving her a dirty look or an obscene gesture. I guess there's nothing stopping me from wearing my Phillies cap and tipping that to people...

You know it's too humid when...
...When you get out of a cold shower, and by the time you've put your clothes on and come back upstairs, you're already starting to sweat again. :o

Turkish Delights .....
Believe me, I know all about being cheap. I usually spend hours shopping for music too. Although I usually go for independently run stores, because they almost always have a better selection than your average chain (Tower is pretty good though) and they're usually cheaper too. :D

Turkish Delights .....
If you can't find Muse or Damien Rice, your record store probably just sucks, because I see them all the time around here. :P

Nick Berg (the executed American civilian in Iraq)
I'm sure you've all heard by now about Nick Berg, the American civilian who was kidnapped and beheaded by suspected al-Qaeda members in Iraq. If not: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3708047.stm I guess it has a slight personal connection for me, since this guy was from the town where I was born, and he briefly attended the same university as me, although not at the same time. At any rate, it's one of the most gruesome and terrible things to come out of there yet, and I feel incredibly bad for his family, who had to find out that there was a video of their son's brutal murder from a reporter who came to their house, and now they have to see it on every news channel and in every newspaper. I've even seen pictures published of his family weeping in their front yard after being told about it (have journalists no shame?). I also think it puts the Iraqi prisoner abuse into some perspective. I'm not saying it's ok, but I think most people would rather be tortured and still live than be murdered... Either way, I wish people (westerners and middle-easterners alike) would realize that the "eye-for-an-eye" thing has got to stop. It sounds so cliche, but violence really isn't the answer. It's not ok to torture Iraqi prisoners because you think they might have raped Jessica Lynch, and it's not ok to murder an American civilian because some Iraqi prisoners were tortured. *sigh* The world is such a sad place.
