Chicago overpaid for Wallace, but Detroit will still miss him. Iverson will be traded, and my beloved 76ers will get next to nothing for him, and everybody will win except Philadelphia. (That's how trades usually seem to work in this town :rolleyes: )

I might be alone among Flyers fans here, but I'd like to take a minute and complain about Bob Clarke as a GM. He was a great player, but he has no clue what he's doing as GM. I can't think of anybody who's more out of touch with the way the game is played these days than he is. We're stuck with Hatcher and Rathje for another year, and have no money under the cap to improve the team. I'm predicting another one-and-done year for the Flyers, much to my dismay. We still have Forsberg, though... :rolleyes:

I am seriously bummed about this one. I'm mostly disappointed that we'll never get to hear Syd speak for Syd. All we have now are the many rumors and whatnot. Oh well. We'll always have The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. And The Madcap Laughs and Barrett.

I haven't seen it, but I'm just surprised that so many people seem to have an interest in a THIRD Fast and the Furious movie. :stunned:

Here's what I'm looking at so far: 1. Liars - Drum's Not Dead - Liars continue to defy everybody's expections, this time keeping the ominous dread of They Were Wrong So We Drowned, and adding furious tribal rhythms to it. 2. Jim Noir - Tower of Love - Some of the finest pop music I've heard in a long time, although not actually released in the US yet. It is out in the UK, though. 3. The Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea - The Fiery Furnaces are my favorite band right now. Insanely talented, generally insane otherwise, and adorable to boot. 4. Espers - Espers II - Not as good as their first album, but the psychedelic-folk drifts further from the folk and more toward the psychedelic. Is it 1967? It works for me. 5. Scott Walker - The Drift - Over the course of 40 years, Scott Walker has evolved from a melodramatic crooner into the world's first atonal pop artist. You will never hear another album that sounds remotely like The Drift. Honorable Mentions: - Paul Simon - Surprise - Matmos - The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of the Beast - Zero 7 - The Garden - Bruce Springsteen - We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions - Thom Yorke - The Eraser

I liked I heart Huckabees more than Donnie Darko, despite its obnoxious title. It was just as thought-provoking, but in a pleasant and curious way, unlike Donnie Darko's self-importance and heavy-handedness. Plus Dustin Hoffman kicks my ass with a moptop haircut. "You rock, rock!"

You realize Vanilla Sky was actually a remake, right? My pick is Groundhog Day. And pretty much anything else with Bill Murray in it. And Eyes Wide Shut. Despite Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman being in it, it isn't nearly as bad as everybody says it is.

They were on that TV show awhile back that reformed old bands to play an old hit and a new song. I don't remember what the show was called, but I do remember that the dude in A Flock of Seagulls wore a baseball cap to cover his apparently baldness. It was generally embarassing for all involved parties, I think.

I haven't read all three pages of this so I'm sure I'm repeating somebody, but here's why this thread pisses me off: It gives us only two options. I had to vote for "No, the government have told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth." I believe that? No! Of course not! The government never tells the whole truth, especially when led by George Bush, the worst leader this country has ever had. But you're sadly deluded if you honestly believe that the US government would do something like that completely on its own. Osama bin Laden is reponsible, case closed. That said, you could make an argument for a self-inflicted wound based on the US's stupid policies that have killed people all over the world over the years. But I didn't see that in the polling options. Narrowing down a complicated issue into a black-and-white, with-us-or-against-us issue is a classic Bush tactic, by the way. Does "You're with us or you're with the terrorists" sound familiar?

You guys are aware that the only reason he's undergone all this surgery and whatnot is so that his owners can eventually make millions of dollars in stud fees, right? It has nothing to do with saving the life of a beautiful animal. If he was any other horse, they'd have put him down right where he broke his ankles. Call me cynical, but I'm not half as much as that poor animal's owners. That said, he's still a living creature, so I hope he's ok eventually. He had his surgery and is recovering at a place that's about a 10 minute drive from where I used to live as a kid. That's kinda cool, I guess.

Not known worldwide? Hell, that first part is probably the most overused classical piece in the world in action movie trailers and whatnot. Poor Carl Orff.

I don't either, really. I only ever saw it once. It was around Christmas time. I swear I wasn't hallucinating.

I'm pulling for Villanova (hometown pride, even if they're technically in a rich suburb) but I'm not foolish enough to think they'll win.

TV is pretty much just sports these days for me. So... depending on how often the Flyers play, about 10 hours a week I suppose. (Is that a good healthy American amount?)

1. Brian Wilson - Smile - Gershwin + Ives + Beach Boys + Van Dyke Parks = pure brilliance 2. Miles Davis - On the Corner - Miles delves into pure drugged out street funk, blended with Stockhausen-style tape manipulation. My favorite "jazz" record ever, if you consider it to be jazz at all. 3. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds - Best pure pop album ever, plain and simple. 4. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Take any of the pre-existing hyperbolic praise and just insert it here. 5. Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children - The mostly strangely soothing and ethereal record I've ever heard. The kind that transports you to a different world. 6. The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle - Beautiful psychedelic pop. Another underrated gem. 7. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme - I'm always fascinated by art created through devotion to God, especially coming from a guy so messed up on booze and heroin. 8. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Almost four years later, I still love this one a little more every time I listen to it. 9. John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band - John's most raw, and in my opinion, best solo work. As good as almost any Beatles album. 10. Incredible String Band - The Beautiful Hangman's Daughter - Archetypal acid-folk from the 1960's. This is what Devendra Banhart is playing almost 40 years later. There. I don't know why I bothered with that, because the Beatles are surely the only artist on my list that anybody else will vote for, but whatever.
