  1. yeah, at my school upper school was 9-12 grade as well. and in middle school, 7th grade was the absolute worst. 8th was better, like mo said, but still sucky. 9th was looking up, 10th was AMAZING, 11th was brilliant, and 12th was...not so brilliant, at least for the most part. for us all the amazing part was that it was almost exactly the same group of people (my school was k-12, so no changing schools), yet the maturity level skyrocketed to new levels over one summer. it was great.
  2. ^yeahhhh. i've had a semester off and i've always been really academically oriented, but now i kind of realize that i can learn just as much without being in school or whatever. i want to write and study film, and i can learn so much from reading and watching DVDs in my bedroom. i'm not saying that college is a waste or anything like that, but now i'm so excited about studying film that i want to fast forward through college and get to the career aspect of all this. i want to see where i end up when i graduate, not go through it all day by day. and then there's the leaving home part...i really dont want to have to share a room and a bathroom and have to make all new friends that have known each other since septemeber when i'll be the new girl...all of that really freaks me out.
  3. aww, i'm sorry annie :(. even though i'm not really talking from experience whatsoever, there's a lot more to life than just high school (and just college). everyone has a different favorite time, i guess, and for a lot of people that's college, so there's that to look forward to. i just personally cant imagine much topping my high school years. socially, anyway.
  4. ^at least not publically jugemental. theyre not so vocal about it. honestly, though, i loved MS while i was in it and didnt want to go to US, but in retrospect, MS SUCKED. US rocked, and i think most people have that experience as well.
  5. "relatively pointless" is actually what i meant when i said "real" conversations as well! because i think that's the best judge of when you find real friends here: when you start talking about unrelated things in a thread for multiple posts or PMs and people probably get mad at you for spamming :P i think right now my closest friends are annie, rachael and anna because we tend to talk the most, but everyone here is so incredibly nice that its hard to narrow them down! the people are the main reason i've stuck around for almost two years! (that and an embarrassingly strong love of coldplay...)
  6. thanks! haha, it IS ashton, left over from my middle school days. he was my first celebrity crush, along with heath ledger . but he's still hott, so i left the poster up. the X&Y poster came with the vinyl of the album that i bought! on the other side is the full baudot color code alphabet. i'm actually taking it down on thursday to bring with me to college :( ashton, on the other hand, is staying home :P
  7. wow, you werent kidding when you said you had a long while till college! i didnt know you were in middle school. so that explains the absurdity of these freaks. i promise that high school will be better (our schools sound pretty similar) and that you'll probably never miss MS. it can be pure hell. but youre the coolest middle schooler i've ever talked to! :D
  8. oh, the crying thing...that was so overhyped. i chalk it up to her being exhausted more than it being a calculated move in her campaign. all in all, i do like hillary, i just think obama is more dynamic and will do more good for the country. he truly is the change candidate. i dont think hillary is exactly "status quo," but she's more on that side of the board than on the "change" side. but i dont like the fact that she voted for the war and isnt really taking full responsibilty for that now (or at least i feel like she hasnt fully owned up to it...she's more making excuses for herself over anything). and i think she's just a mere politician whereas obama is a superstar.
  9. byeeeee anna! heh, now i have to go entertain myself with other things if you lot are leaving...:P
  10. ooh, snow! it's been snowing here all day and all the schools were cancelled because they said it would be like a foot, but its actually only like 2 inches. i didnt even have to dig my car out. it kind of pissed me off because i love snow, and my brother was home from school for no real reason
  11. cant say i know who that is....i really do enjoy watching soccer, though! i think dave needs to alter the title of this thread to "a thread in honour of Chelsea (NOT the London FC!) :P nahh, i dont really care.
  12. haha, i cant say "nice" or "pretty" has often been applied to the way i look before i joined this board...:P but thanks!
  13. i was rooting against france in the end...but i did really like zidane and that whole thing shocked the crap out of me. in the start i always went for the most "obscure" teams like korea or ghana because i like the underdogs to win. but my family's REALLY ukrainian, so i couldnt deny supporting my second country!
  14. if the three of us are any proof, all american teenagers are NOT stupid or trashy. i think me being short and having a round face makes me look really young. once i start talking, i think most people begin to take me seriously, but i had an office job during my semester off and people would look at me like i was some kid that broke into the office and was playacting that i worked there. and patients either thought i was some kid or had the gary coleman disease.
  15. i dont think we can pass any judgement whatsoever on the songs until we HEAR them, not just read the titles. i admit that when i first read them, i was kind of...not impressed, but theyre just NAMES. if i'd never heard "politik" as a song, among others, i would have thought the name was ridiculous, just as some of these may sound. lots of songs have crazy names and are still brilliant songs, which is all that matters. so hopefully we wont have to wait much longer to work out whether these songs surpass their titles!
  16. unfortunately, i'll probably be mistaken for a teenager for years to come, because i look about 12 years old. so i might be out of college and have a good job, and ill still be carded at bars and at R-rated movies...
  17. i was glued to my TV for most of it, but towards the end my work started up and like every five minutes i was refreshing the FIFA webpage to get an updated score. i did get to watch the biggest matches, though...but i didnt get to see the game where ukraine was eliminated, because they were my faves...:(
  18. heh, well i dont think she sucks, really, i'm just not a fan. obama is TOTALLY my man! but if hillary ends up being the democratic candidate, i wont have too many qualms about voting for her. i just think obama is the better person for the job in every venue, and then edwards.
  19. there used to be this great channel called VH1 MegaHits (VH1 and MTV are owned by the same people, i'm pretty sure)...it was like channel 721 or something and it played only music videos, and ONLY rock ones. that channel got me into coldplay, the strokes, death cab for cutie...all the bands i can't live without now. if it wasnt for that channel, i would never have been this obsessed with coldplay. and yet, they took it off the air because it wasnt what people wanted to see. they rather see bitchy girls having catfights and ridiculous contests that have nothing to do with music and everything to do with the worst of american culture.
  20. heh, thanks annie! i like the hair too, but if anybody saw what it looked like right now they'd think otherwise.
  21. i cant believe people actually watch those shows. i think it goes way beyond being funny and entertaining to laugh at how ridiculous those people are and it just gets me angry and cynical about our generation. i can hardly even watch MTV. whatever happened to being MUSIC television?!
  22. heh...well, how often do they show british footie on american TV? i was unhealthily obsessed with the FIFA world cup two summers ago, like completely addicted, but i can never seem to get any real soccer on TV around here. besides, we're big on hockey and soccer would probably be shut off in favor of the NY rangers.
  23. why blur it?! god, i wish i had skin like yours, annie...i look like a fricking pizza 24/7. not exactly my best photo, but there's my new haircut. my face looks ridiculous, but yeah. and yes, i do have a coldplay poster in my bathroom. want to make something of it? :P :)
