The Coldplay Messenger
Nah, I probably shouldn't have said all that in the first place. I'm Coldplaying's token pessimist! I'm half wrong most of the time, I guess, so who knows :P I applied, like I do to all of the Messenger competitions, but I did this one kind of as a test. I feel like my Coldplay Karma has been off the freaking charts lately with the boat and the "making of" video and getting on set and meeting the boys and winning TOTP tickets, so if by some miracle I win one of the five, I'm going to buy a ton of lottery tickets and hope that all this luck isn't to counteract some upcoming tragedy or catastrophe in my life .

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
Oooh, Daniel, you're coming now? I've braved so much worse than this for Coldplay, but dress warm, people! Paul, as you've been so kind...do artists sometimes come out afterwards in a certain location or something, like, if you're looking to meet them? I got my moment with them so this isn't the reason I'm going, but we'd love to hear your tips :nice:. And that's amazing about your article! :D

The Coldplay Messenger
 OK, they took our addresses, but I just can't see Coldplay HQ going through them all and transcribing all of our addresses before turning them over to EMI :P. Sorry, I'm continuing my Debbie Downer reputation here :P. But I just figure about 70 of those copies already have intended recipients that we don't know about.

The Coldplay Messenger
No idea why I didn't get the messenger, but I applied anyway  I just want to see what one looks like anyway! It sounds awesome :wacky: And I'm totally not convinced about anything relating to the extra copies and the boat...how would they get them to us? If they asked for our addresses from the get-go that's one thing, but I feel like it's too late now . I bet they give out more than we know to friends, more than just Zane Lowe etc, and keep some to auction off for later charity events and the like.

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
I'm either going to get there at 9:30 or 10:30...I have to decide tomorrow when I buy my train tickets, and price may be an influential factor in that decision. This is more stressful than I thought it would be . I've never been a ticket-holder to something that didn't guarantee my entry! I guess I deserve some Coldplay stress to return to my life, though...I was so relaxed about the logistics of the boat that it was almost creepy to not have to worry about timing and queuing! That was a whole different animal, of course, but we didn't know that until we were on the boat.

Did you like 'Christmas Lights'?
 Mich I think it's more the idea of going to Oxford Street to right a wrong in a relationship that gets me more than the feet part. Looks like the girl he just broke it off with can be bought, which just kind of ruins my sympathy for him and his being in love with her in the first place :P

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
I might be ridiculous and take a train that gets in at 9, meaning it'll leave Norwich at 7...oh good lord, the things I do for this band . Thanks so much for your help, though! :nice: I'm one of these people that likes to know what I'm in for before it happens, even when I know only good things are going to happen, so your information is invaluable :D I'll resign my hopes of being right at the stage to chance, I guess, but I'm going to get into that studio, dammit :P. I'm number 91 ticket-wise, but you say that's irrelevant, so I'm not going to ascribe any meaning to that relatively low number.

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
Thank you so much for your help! :D I'm coming from Norwich on a train and will be heading to the studio straight from the train station...eek, now I'm thinking I should take a really early train :uhoh:. Do you think that me getting to the BBC at 10:30 would be way too late? I can get into London at 10 and make it to the BBC on the Tube by then, but I really don't want to risk anything as the train ticket isn't exactly cheap...I could get an earlier train, but I'm kind of allergic to getting up early :P. This is kind of another dumb question that I posed earlier, but do you just fight it out for front row/close to the stage like at a concert, or is it more orderly?

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
OK, just watched the Viva la Vida video, and somehow there are more people there than I expected :stunned:. Kind of naive to think that there would be less, but I'm short and want a good spot, so I'm going to have to debate my train times now :P Do you think it's just like a concert where they let people get their spots in a free-for-all, or do they kind of arrange you how they like because it's a TV performance? And do ticket numbers have anything to do with anything? I'm SUCH a noob

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
What time is everyone getting there? The tickets say "admission on site" at noon. Does that mean get there at noon and get let in at 1? I just need to know what would be a good time to book my train tomorrow... I'm thinking I'll try to get into London by 10, get to the studio by 11? Does that sound way too early or appropriate? I suppose I could always kill time in the area if they don't let us wait around earlier than noon? Urf, I'm going to have to get up at the crack of dawn . Coldplay is like the only thing I do that voluntarily for :P And yeah, I'm not optimistic about this being a true live performance in any sense of the word, but hey, it's Coldplay, and it's free :D. A fun day out even if they do make heavy use of backing tracks. It's just recently, Zoe, I swear! My Coldplay Karma sucked (...OK, was average) before this month. And I'll never get it this good again! You'll get your chance too

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
I'm both hoping there will be a chance to meet them and not . After meeting them last week, I don't want them to think I'm stalking them . I could make myself seem like less of a nutter to Chris, though. How many people (approx.) are going to be at this thing, do we think?

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
I see, thanks! :D I figured it couldn't be more than just Coldplay given the time and the way it's listed on the site.

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
Noob question time: So this has more than one artist involved? I understand it's a Christmas Show with multiple acts on TV, but because the BBC is listing this as purely a Coldplay event and because it's an hour long, it seems to me that they can't possibly have other acts performing for taping at the same time we'll be there...yes?

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
I wonder if this is going to be anything like the Today Show...they were only there to play 2-3 songs, but it was actually more fun to listen to them rehearse a million times and talk to the audience. I'm a bit ignorant of the way these sorts of things work for the BBC. Anyone been before or know more about what we're in for besides just them playing the song and leaving?

Your English is brilliant! You definitely could have said the same :D. If you didn't have a French flag under your name, I'd have no idea you weren't a native speaker. I honestly just love the lyrics in this song. As much as I do love the VLV era, I just kind of missed these sorts of mini-story songs :nice:.

New Coldplay Christmas Song 2010! Christmas Lights // behind-the-scenes footage in first post (parts
 Everyone needs to calm down with all the "last big shot" and "Feburary 9th" stuff :P. We all should know by now the way Chris talks, and besides, I don't think he meant it in a way that said this could be their last album...I think he meant to say that this upcoming album is important in securing their legacy or not. If it's good and critically acclaimed, I think they'll secure ea pretty high place in the musical Mt. Olympus. If it's kind of meh, I think they'll be remembered as a good, popular group, but not one with a lot of lasting influence. On a more pessimistic note, if I were Chris, I'd take huge offense to what American Songwriter said in their last lines of their review of "Christmas Lights": "Considering that Martin sings “Got all kinds of poison in my blood,” we can only hope that Santa doesn’t bring young Apple and Moses any toys with lead-based paints." :stunned:

Did you like 'Christmas Lights'?
I originally rated it as a 7 last week, but I think it's risen to a 7.5ish now :D The first time I heard it I really, really did like it, I'm not trying to say I didn't, but I was concerned about how predictable it was, how it was almost stiflingly Coldplay. But in the end, it's a holiday song, not a new single for a new album, so I think it doesn't matter about them coming out with something more progressive or new-sounding right now. But when I teared up on the boat, it was more because I couldn't comprehend the amazing privilege of hearing a Coldplay song exclusively before its release and being asked to be in the video than it was because I was really struck by the song. The more I listen to it, the more I love it, though. I think it's brilliant, and I love the return to the more personal, less abstract lyrical style, and the subtle yet not overpowering strings, and the fact that it's ever so slightly Christmassy but not in a cliche way with sleigh bells and the like.

Yeah, you guys are probably right about the awareness. I figure it could go to #1 or closer to it later, after it gets more airplay on radio and on TV (if any channels actually show good music videos anymore :dozey:). I just remember the craze that was the release of Violet Hill and Viva la Vida and how huge the numbers were, but I guess those are proper singles, not holiday songs.

Coldplay Top of the Pops updates
To be honest, it's just an hour long of watching Coldplay perform one song on a stage :P. That's not to say I'm not happy I can go and excited to see them again, but I don't think this is the sort of thing that would draw people from all over the country. I almost didn't even apply simply because the time commitment to getting to and from London is four times as long as the actual reason I'm going . I wonder if there's a chance of catching them afterwards, though.... Then maybe I can have a proper meeting with Chris :P. But I don't want to seem like a stalker because I met them only last week!.
