Why should you be disappointed? Just be happy that you went. What the racial mix up was of the crowd should not be a concern. The fact that there were not more local (Chinese I presume you to mean) is because there probably was no interest. But that didn't stop you from going. I think this is the wrong attitude.

Concert was brilliant. Seats weren't bad, but no way near as close as you guys got!!! And I love your pics, Kavitha. Amazing. I didn't look at any of them until just now since I wanted to go into the concert without too much expectation, but the images are quite similar to what we just saw tonight. Highlights for me were Square One (digital backdrop), Til Kingdom Come (he sang a song about Hong Kong), The Scientist (the whole crowd was singing along), Politik, Speed of Sound, Yellow (with the balloons) and of course Fix You - what an ending. I'll try and upload Til Kingdom Come which I recorded -quite a nifty version as well. And yes, suffering from withdrawal symptoms. Can't believe they have come and gone now...it'll hit me in a few days I know. I would have loved to have seen their entire Asian leg so that I could get it out of my system, but finances/time were not permitting. Alas... but I am glad I finally did see them. Most of the people in this world haven't. And boy have they missed out! Good night from a very happy Hong Kong tonight!

Hong Kong Concert I have just returned from the Hong Kong show... man oh man, what an experience. I will never forget it. Probably the best live show I have ever seen - and Chris, what an entertainer!! I took some pics (but a bit out of focus since taken from my phone) and recorded "Til Kingdom Come" on my phone as well but was special in that Chris told a story about what happened to him yesterday when he went to Deep Water Bay (one of the beaches here in HK). He makes references of that experience in the song as well - I will try and get this downloaded to some format. I don't know how to do any of this, so if anyone can help me, it would be appreciated. They go on stage in 2.5 hrs...... it's killing me. Can't work at all!!

By all means, punish Materazzi as well... but tell him what? You can't swear on the pitch? You can only say a, b and c, but not d, e or f. Impossible to ever enforce this. All players have sworn at each other for years. Zidane just lost control that's it - but FIFA have to set that example. Kids in France and elsewhere will feel justified beating the hell out of kids who say anything against them (not even sisters/mothers/whoever). They will feel that they should deserve awards even doing this. Violence, in whatever form is wrong. And Fifa can't send the wrong message. I am not saying that Materazzi was right to do what he did, just that it is impossible to stop. What Zidane did is easy to stop.

But isn't this just part and parcel of competitive sports? every team is going to try and get a psychological edge over the other - don't tell me rugby players in scrums exchange pleasantries. and actually it goes to show that materazzi was able to get into zidane's psyche - just what he needed to do for the team's well being (Italy may never win another WC, but this time they succeeded because of this). i know for a fact that players like beckham had heard alot worse - comments like his children should die of cancer etc... but it is part of any game (and has been for a long time). Remember Vinnie Jones grabbing Gazza's balls - that famous photo - that must have been provoked. Reaction was wrong, but Gazza must have said something. Being the grand old leader of football, Zidane should know better. That's the bottom line. And he acted terribly - what kind of example does that teach children? For that, I feel his award should be taken away. Ok, it was a moment of madness during an otherwise great tournament, but that is enough. He deserved to get sent off and should not be "awarded" for his ANTI fair play. It is so the opposite of fair play that it is ridiculous (esp with the whole FIFA fair play mindset that has to be on top).

How do you know? Must be the one in the Landmark right? How exciting - I work just up the road!

In today's SCMP newspaper (in Hong Kong) there is a Coldplay interview. In short the band has confirmed that it is coming a few days early. And going to do some sightseeing. So maybe go to the top tourist spots the day before the show? In HK it is very easy... but being a work day it will be v difficult to get the time off to hunt for Chris around town...

They won't be here for another 5 days, but to tell you the truth I am having trouble sleeping just thinking about FINALLY seeing Coldplay... I have been listening to all the primo concerts (IOW, Glastonbury, Abbey Rd) and man oh man... getting itchy feet!!:rolleyes:

i asked coldplay.com about this. The moderator told me that obviously she wouldn't know the itinerary of the band, but they always go to the venue for a soundcheck/check it out before the show - not necessarily on the day of the show itself but most likely since it takes time for the whole stage to be set up. I would think if the show is on july 10th, then july 9th late afternoon/evening or July 10th early afternoon are the best times to catch them. Alternatively, what are the hippest clubs in Singapore? I would think that the night before (july 9th) they would be going out partying. Also remember Chris is a vegetarian, so possibly a primo Vegetarian/ organic restaurant in a hip area?

Total classic. I used to make it a point to read it every summer, at least once a year. haven't read it now for some time - thanks for the thread - that's my next book to read!!!:laugh3:

Hong Kong Review Hi everyone. I just wanted to share my Sigur Ros experience. They came down to Hong Kong for the first time in April of this year... and they were quite literally AWESOME!!! In fact my avatar (see left) is from the gig itself. While the curtains were drawn... We went to see Icelandic crossover artists Sigur Ros last Friday at HITEC in Kowloon Bay. Luckily Anisha managed to secure some pretty decent tickets (12 rows back but dead centre) since it made a huge difference being upfront as there were no projection screens to aid those in the back. It was the first time I was properly introduced to their music. Yes, I had heard a few of their more popular songs - Hoppipolla - which has been getting heavy rotation on Channel V and a couple of songs that featured on the Vanilla Sky OST, but that was it. The concert was highly anticipated by me though since my friend Rich had told me that he saw them in Toronto and it was one of the best shows that he has ever seen (and he has seen probably more than 100 shows by now). Plus, Anisha and Neel have been raving about them for some time. So there we are. Friday night in an extremely desolate Kowloon Bay. We walk into the HITEC venue towards the tail end of opening act Amiina's performance. Quite promising beginning from the all female strings ensemble and the crowd were equally appreciative. A ten minute or so break follows with the lights still off and a cloth screen drawn at the front of the stage, and the flickerings of the pre-show hype begin to gradually swell. Silhouettes of the band members are visible as one by one they take to their places... the beginning chords of the intro song to Takk, their latest album, start to swirl around the near capacity-filled, and surprisingly 85% local Chinese, hall as Sigur Ros try to establish their presence in this most foreign of venues. Snow-swept images, blurry and clear at the same time, appear on the as yet undrawn cloth screen, and we are all left with a little wonder as to what else is in store. The intro song mixes nicely into Glosoli, track 2 off Takk, with images of a person walking in snow accompanying the ethereal vocals and angelic sounds emanating from the group. Once the intro is completed, the curtain is drawn, and the band shows itself to Hong Kong for the first time ever. Huge applause follows every rendition, with the greatest cheers coming for Hoppipolla and the main Vanilla Sky track (which I can't name right now). I still cannot name every song that was played, but each one left me more and more calm and curious throughout the duration of the 100 minute-plus set. A couple of encores later and the band were off, to a number of standing ovations. I understand they felt a huge culture shock coming to HK - staying in the luxurious Langham Hotel in Mongkok but steps away from the dense street markets and vendors chopping heads off frogs in front of them! Nonetheless, I am sure they will be back the next time they tour these parts. If not, I realise that I was part of a very special event. Even Sigur Ros commented that (the Hong Kong show) was a "grand" gig!
