Coldplay name album with Frida Kahlo's help Coldplay Chris Martin finally confirms title of fourth record Coldplay have finally named their new album, which will be released on June 16. The record, the band's fourth, will be called 'Viva la Vida' – meaning long live life – after frontman Chris Martin saw the phrase on a painting by Mexican artists Frida Kahlo, Rolling Stone reports. “She went through a lot of shit, of course, and then she started a big painting in her house that said 'Viva la Vida',” explained Martin of the choice. “I just loved the boldness of it.” It had been rumoured before that the album would be called 'Prospekt', something Coldplay quickly denied. Martin admitted that the title he has settled on does have other connotations other than the celebrated artists, perhaps most infamously pop star Ricky Martin. “Everyone thinks it comes from Ricky Martin, which is fine. I have absolute respect,” explained Martin. “I've been through this before, naming something or someone and everyone saying that 'That’s a terrible name'. But then saying, 'Well, fuck you, that's what it's called, and I'll be proved to be right eventually'. ^^^Wow, thats lucky that you got to see them twice! I'm afraid that if I don't get a ticket to see them before they go abroad, I won't be able to see them on this particular tour at all! That would be horrible. It would be my first coldplay gig, my first gig ever actually. PS: bed time for me. See you all soon hopefully.

^^^^ True, and maybe they can refine that recording process next time around, so there are less set backs. but from what I can gather, this 'self imposed deadline' seems to have worked ;) Yeah I'm expecting a lot of promotion, but not a tour lasting as long as X&Y. I'm sorta baing it on a hunch I suppose, but I got the impression that the South American Tour in 2007 was a late decision by the band, and that probably set back recording for a few months. So if they have it all planned out already (the tour i mean) then maybe it wont be as long a wait as last time.

^^Haha, well its not intended to be pessimistic, but it did seem fitting to create this sort of discussion now we know the release date or LP4. I voted for "it will take less time in the future" because I can't see them touring a long for this album. And recording sessions this time around seemed to go better than with X&Y, so I can only hope they can continue this way of working.

Parachutes ---> AROBTTH - 777 days / 25.5 months AROBTTH ------> X&Y - 1015 days / 33 months X&Y -------------> Viva La Vida - 1106 days / 36 months Set out as shown above, Coldplay have taken progressively more time to release each album since the year 2000. The time taken for Viva La Vida to be released is 10 days shy of 3 whole years. They have maintained the tradition of releasing albums in the summer months over all four releases. Will these trends continue? Will it take the band more than 36 months to release their 5th studio album? Will they continue to release their albums during the summer in the future? I translated the album title into English and it simply means 'Live Life'.

This turned out to be right after all :D They havn't yet updated the album name, though, it's still called Prospekt. Is anyone actually going to pre-order this album? Personally I'm buying the physical disc on the day of release, but I'm curious of other people's plans.

Oh man. I've just been on the Coldplay article on Wikipedia. And boy did it give me shivers to see this line: Viva la Vida (2006–present) It just makes the whole thing so much more real, you know. :dance:
