What are you reading right now?
Finished "The Autograph Man" by Z. Smith. "On Beauty" was def better but I always love how she describes London. Now it's "The Cleft" by Doris Lessing.

Ist das so schlimm? Mein Ostern besteht aus Wohnungsanzeigen durchstöbern... auch nicht besonders spannend.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
loooooool Fleet Road is not even nice. Well, if you get exhausted of waiting you can always go to Hampstead Heath (5-10min) and get yourself a nice Starbucks coffee. ;)

Def not... the sun came out precisely at 2:37pm and I was gutted for being stuck in the library. :laugh3:

Americans must now buy bad health insurance policies - even if they don't need them.
Easier said than done as your immigration laws are not particularly friendly to immigrants. It's not easy to obtain a Green Card... and with the brain drain problem not many cleaners etc are getting in your country.

But they do the work you don't wanna do. Some sectors in the US wouldn't be working without them. Actually you should thank them...

Exactly! loooool ... though you have to use another myth as abortion was now left out thanks to Stupak. ;) What about the myth that the bill kills old people. I loved that one. :laugh3: ... though some people are seriously arguing about it... :shocked2:

Sorry but I think the new healthcare policy goes into the right indirection. In fact, I'm frustrated that it leaves out illegal immigrants who do a lot of shitty work Americans don't wanna do. In return they should be allowed to get health insurance. Human rights can also be understood as social rights (sth the US always lobbied against). But of course that's only my opinion. I come from a different context than US citizens. You never had the experience of war in your own country. My world is based on a social market economy like France and Germany; and to certain extent the NHS in the UK. What you call socialism is normal for us. We are happy that we have this expensive but state financed welfare system - particularly now when we are still dealing with the consequences of the economic crisis. I agree that Obama's health care policy might be abused by insurance companies. But because of this fact I argue for more state regulation; whilst most US citizens probably prefer the opposite.

I finished Nick Laird. Expected something different as his interviews are usually full of metaphors, quotes, similies, ... but I enjoyed it. :) At the moment I am skipping through a few short stories about the sea; but will probably start reading "The Autograph Man" by Zadie Smith.

Gwyneth...
London is the best city in the world, right?! ;) Though personally I'd move as the area they are living in is quite hectic. There are nicer and more quiet locations in London...

Blutspenden ist nicht schlimm. Dauert vielleicht 10min.

Need help form English and German people!
Are you English-native? Coz I think that English ppl don't notice the similarity of their own language to French. Hope I'm not insulting you. lol I am German native but have been living in the UK for 5 years. I learned French since the age of 14; also worked in Paris for a while. Whilst being at uni in London I took a French intermediate course with some English natives. Believe me, it happened more than once that the teacher asked us to translate a word which happened to be exactly the same in English. I have a French-English dictionary at home but gave up using it after a while because most of the vocabularly is nearly the same (not good if you know neither the French or English word haha). Usually I understand a French text coz I know the English equivalent; the German word is mostly different. OF COURSE THIS IS ONLY A GENERALISATION. But I think sometimes the British don't realize how much easier it is for them to learn French than for natives which language originates from a different historical context e.g. Scandinavians, Germans, ... Now I am not saying there's absolute truth in my theory and I do understand if you still think there's no similarity. But I find it interesting that most of my friends from other countries than the UK agree with me whilst every friend who's a native in English isn't convinced. :D

You could actually learn French through English and vice versa. Yes, the grammar is different but I am always amazed how many similarities there are in the vocabulary. That's harder with German. You just have to be passionate about the language you wanna study. Have a look at reading material/events/courses by the British Council and Goethe Institute. Maybe they even have offices in your city? In terms of university... do you need it for a university in Spain? Coz you shouldn't worry about IELTS or TOEFL if you don't wanna study at a British university. Too expensice anyway...

Thanks. Lots of British A* actors participating... :stunned: Will be interesting to see how they transferred the book into the play.

Haha, verstehe. :sneaky:

Britain's first £1,000 train ticket sparks row over soaring rail fares
Only partially right. Usually it's not. There's something called checks and balances or Parliament = Legislative and Government = Executive. However, in the UK traditionally (might change in May) ONE party has the majority in the Parliament i.e. they also form the ruling government. Anyway... take the coach! ... but London will have another fare rise in January. Don't wanna look at the receipt and just hide... :(
