Giving out free sweets
I've got the answer. Reward systems! I have to walk 5 miles to the store to get one thin piece of chocolate - maybe no net gain or loss, but it kept me in shape during the cold season! So, for every bar, the cost is, let's say, 2 miles walking, or 1 mile of running. And that way the food tastes better, too..;)

Reply Hmmm.... Well, you're just a big tease, then??;) Coldplay - I'm still giving it a rest, mostly. I did like the gig Chris did with R.E.M. - Michael Stipes & Co., but something new would be very nice indeed... When it comes to Animal Control, have you tried luring them out of their den with some bait, and then closing the door so they can't re-enter the premises?? I thought eviction meant eviction?? Well, anyhow, maybe they have an imbalance in brain chemistry??

Paris protests mar Olympic relay
:rolleyes:And in like kind, all Canadians need to cease hostilities towards the US!:) (and no sneaking across the border at night to invade either - just because it's mostly thousands of miles of open farmland guarded by one or two sheep dogs and three stray barn cats!:laugh3:)

Central Europe
First there is Bohemia; then Moravia; and as the shape of the country gets narrower and more mountainous, there is Slovakia; and finally, at the very narrow mountainous tip, Podkarpatska' Rus. And at the very tip of that is a plate of Kolachky's; poppyseed, prune, date, and apricot.:P So, the south of Moravia is where the good farmland is??:)

HOW TO GET TO HELL WHEN YOU DIE.
:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: Good one!! And you know, there's a lot of nice people who have been condemned to hell throughout history by various religions. And this spring has been so late in coming, I would enjoy a warmer place!;)

Paris protests mar Olympic relay
Yes, I agree.:) & perhaps in that vein, both the Tibetians and the Chinese Police/Troops should cease hostilities and protests. As far as Sudan and China, if the Chinese government is complicit with what the regime there is doing, they need to stop it immediately, or be somehow partially boycotted at least, as this is not in tune with the spirit of the times. Although, in like kind, there were times when the US backed and armed repressive regimes, & no doubt some of this occurred during the Olympic games and ceremony. Our government should have been called on the carpet as well!! Today's world is less tolerant of such abusive situations (thankfully), & so with that comes a higher standard of expected behavior - a good step forward.;)

Paris protests mar Olympic relay
Hey, Bill's pretty good when it comes to human rights issues - and this certainly deserves any attention he can bring to it! It was his contention that if the West kept trade with China fully open, a rising middle class in China would begin to want change in the country, and eventually democratic reforms would take hold. I know that their court system is undergoing a transformation, but militarily, there still is the lingering behaviors of the past. The Olympic games were supposed to be a time when all participating countries ceased warring, and came in peace to compete in the athletic competitions..

What Time Is it and what are you doing ??
11:15 PM, and wishing I hadn't looked at that attachment my Cousin sent along.. Ugh - how sad - this long highway tunnel somewhere in Russia where cars (and their occupants) are getting really smashed / badly hurt in winter when the road ices up (the tunnel leaks in places..) Can't they do something to fix the problem!?!

Ben-Hur star Charlton Heston dies
I just see this image of him in front of the top section of the statue of Liberty, after realizing that mankind had gone ahead with a nuclear war and finding the statue mostly buried, the points on lady liberty's crown/laurel bent down from the heat.. from his Planet of the Apes' days, ..."Noooo! You've really done it! You've destroyed the world.." It was a fantastic ending to the show! Made everyone take pause about nuclear war for a while at least.. He was a great actor.

IIEEE OOOO, well, that's an interesting idea, albeit a wee bit extreme! Sounds a little like the first shot for WWI fired in Serjiavo, Yugoslavia though... All it takes is one kook to set things off, and some people kinda go the Dr. Strangelove route.. (like a certain President we've suffered under for 7.26 years..) Some like the idea of Apocalypse - call it what you will, but that's part of the problem, I think. I think rather more effective is to remove the excuses for violence, and then allow an impartial court to try suspects (maybe the Hague?) to get the process out of the political arena. Hmm... maybe a certain President and his loyalists could be put through a similar process?? :D We almost had peace there - Old Billy Clinton, Yassir Arafat, and Sharon had hammered out an agreement at Camp David, but Arafat wouldn't go along in the end - probably because he was a revolutionary, who really just couldn't deal with peace - he only felt comfortable when he was under siege.. But the ideas were acceptable to both sides - share the temple mount, and other issues resolved.. Somehow it all worked before the state of Israel had been created - what did they do back then??

Poets
Bea, I have to agree - I like poetry with some rhyme and meter to it, but hearing Greg recite beat poetry was hilarious! The poetry was all over the place - a blend of seemingly random ideas, like stream-of-thought only with quick subject jumps.. It was funny!! Something like this.. (The beetle, shaped like a blimp, dazzling sunlight on it, glowing all afire with people "oh, the humanity of it", burning, as steak sizzled on the grill, cross examination, cross of Jesus, nailing mankind's hope to a bulletin board of cork, cork from Spanish oak set to plug Champagne bottles tossed to sea, SOS, and landing on shore, on deck, on the carrier deck after a bombing at the opera opening night, following opening day of the dawning civilization..) (something like that, only more bizarre!) Liquid Sky - how true - you say, when you write, it comes out of the blue; and I feel about the same way! It's almost like the subconscious surfacing..

Why not just declare it "the holy lands", put it all under UN Charter, and make clear agreements on sharing the holy sites?? (I know - pie in the sky dreaming..) Neither side looks saintly, or has a perfect definition of what's what, because neither is a nation with clear natural boundaries. Really, it all seems a little nuts - from what I hear, the majority of Palestinians, and the majority of Israelis want peace and harmony, but the loudest voices coming from the more extreme minority opinions hold trump. Wish that would change... I still like Greg's idea - we should have allowed for the construction of a new Jewish state in Arizona back in 1900, and then Palestine could have been kept as a special UN protectorate and UNESCO world heritage site..:)

~*Arab Coldplay*~
Yes, that is quite the leap in languages... best of luck and skill to you! .. & Angel Eyes has had to learn a very foreign language as well just to be here - that's quite the feat as well!! My understanding is that to learn Arabic one must shift one's mind into another gear almost - to go from Indo-European object oriented languages to Arabic verb-oriented languages is really a leap in thinking! From what little I know, it's quite a change in mind-states..
