  4. Latest Article, just in: Sound relief hits Sydney and Melbourne 14th March 2009, 12:45 WST Australian rock lovers are in for a big trip down memory lane as performers from more than three decades hit the stage at Saturday's Sound Relief concerts in Melbourne and Sydney. Some iconic Aussie bands - including Midnight Oil and Hunters & Collectors - are getting back together for one night only in aid of the victims of Victoria's devastating bushfires and Queensland's floods. In Melbourne, the music gets under way at the MCG from midday with Jet, who broke through in 2004 with the single Are You Gonna Be My Girl, followed by young pop sensation Gabriella Cilmi. Augie March and Wolfmother will also play to the 80,000 strong crowd, along with Paul Kelly and Split Enz and international acts Kings of Leon and Jack Johnson. Pop princess Kylie Minogue has flown in from London to be the show's "special MC". All profits from the $75 a head event will go to the Bushfire Fund Appeal. Singer Chris Martin says he feels like an honorary Australian after his band Coldplay opened the Sydney Sound Relief bushfire benefit concert. The UK superstars, who took to the stage at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) just after midday (AEDT) on Saturday, later cemented their `Aussie credentials' when they were joined on stage by John Farnham. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to sing the Australian national anthem, John Farnham," Martin said. With Coldplay as his backing band, Farnham led a crowd of thousands in a rousing rendition of You're The Voice. Martin opened the set with an extended intro of Viva La Vida before launching their huge hit Yellow as dozens of yellow balloons bounced around the audience. "Today, is the only day we can claim to be honorary Australians," Martin said. Cricketer Shane Warne appeared onstage, while actress Toni Collette and her baby daughter Sage were among the crowd who paid $75 a ticket to attend the benefit bash. Half the profits will go to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, the other half to The Premier's Disaster Relief Fund Appeal in Queensland for victims of the recent floods. The Sydney concert is being held simultaneously with one in Melbourne. Together they are expected to raise more than $5 million. Wolfmother were the second act to take the Sydney stage, playing hits including Woman and Colossal. "I'm very proud to be a part of this event," frontman Andrew Stockdale told the media before the show. "It's an enormous, historical moment ... "That just shows what this country does: it gets behind people when they are down and out, and tries to help." At the other end of the day, Bee Gee Barry Gibb will close the show with some of his famous hits, as well as a special performance with Olivia Newton-John. 1980s band Icehouse have reformed for the benefit, You Am I and Hoodoo Gurus are sure to be crowd favourites, while Jet and the new-look Wolfmother will take to the stage in Melbourne and Sydney. Dance duo The Presets, US country sensation Taylor Swift, and Perth bands Eskimo Joe and Little Birdy are among the other big names on the bill. Profits from the Sydney concert will be split between the Victorian bushfire and Queensland flood relief efforts. AAP http://www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx?MenuID=5&ContentID=129980
  5. Woah thats amazing, i love it :)
  6. The Big Jrad Review So this review took forever to post, the concert was on Saturday but I had alot going on between now and then so I haven't go time...But Now here it is:D My group got on the train at around 6 pm, there was three of us on the train and I knew we were in for a fabulous night. We got to the Dome around 6:30 and immediately my heart started to race when I saw the number of People, I was excited.:D:D We quickly found my friend, who joined us and then made out way into the dome, what #42 said about the pressure difference is very true. I was very impatient in my seat, i justed wanted Coldplay to come on. It was quite a wait really and I remember sitting there thinking, is this ever going to happen?! Well finally I heard the Jay Z tune blast through the speakers and I knew it was about to happen. The Overtue they play was next and then I really started to get excited. There was a silence as it stopped and i gazed across the crowd. Suddenly LIT intro could be heard, the crowd went wild. I was now on a COLDPLAY high and shouted with all my might! It was really happening. Well for a first song it rocked. Next was Violet Hill, by the first chorus, the crowd were one happy choir singing "If You Love Me Won't You Let Me Know" I loved Jonny's solo!!:guitarist: Next was Clocks, it was amazing, one of my favourites, the noise from the crowd also seemed to suggest so. It was then two blasts from the past the first being 'In My Place'. I think at this point Chris introduced the band as "Hi We're Coldplay, we're like Kings of Leon, except alot older, uglier and we sweat alot more" Yellow then rocked its way across the arena (I loved the balls they threw across the crowd and the mass crowd choir featured) Cemetries of London my favourite on the album also sounded great. Next Followed Chinese Sleep Chant, and then 42 (very cool lighting in this one and chris did this cool outro where it looked like he was going to faint and then built up to a power note). Fix You was another great tune with the crowd joining in with the singing. Strawberry Swing was next and an extremely sweet song. Jonny played it excellent and I couldn't help but sing along with Chris. There was a short break and the boy headed to C stage to play their techno remixes of the song, at first We wondered what was going on but then the beat came and we all quickly worked out what was going on...it was brilliance!! Chris then stayed to play the Hardest Part, introducing the song something along the lines of "this next song didn't make it into Shane Warne the Musical, but it brought us here" he's amazing acousticly but stuffed up the second verse...he swore, laughed and kept playing, he's very talented! The next song proved exactly this as he perfectly paid postcards from far far away I haven't heard a more sweet piano piece. "Ahhh Ooooh Uhhh Ooooh" Yep, it was here, VIVA LA VIDA, the song of the night performance of the night, Chris introduced it as the song in which "We'll attempt the biggest collaboration between band and crowd" It really did happen, 15, 000 chorused "Ahhh Ooooh Uhhh Ooooh" it was EPIC!Will certaintly knows how to drum :drummer: Lost followed it was another epic song, I love how Guy played the drums!!:drummer: The acoustic set was upon us and the band made their way into the stands. Here they played Speed of Sound, Green Eyes and Death Will Never Conquer. Will is the most awesome Human jukebox ever!! **BAM BAM BAM** is the next thing I hear and the intro to Politik thunders from the stage! Lovers in Japan follows and its probably the most emotional song of the night for me, there's so many butterflies and chris looked extremely cool with his umbrella. Finally, it was Death And All His Friends, again the vocals were absolutely amazing. As the final notes rings out, I have a bitter sweet feeeling, was it over? NO OF COURSE NOT, the band were back to play the Scientist! It was a good performance too, they did it perfectly. A rack of coats is brought on stage, the Sgt. Pepper ones, I then hear a dulcimer, the final song LIT2 is played. I felt the urge to get up and dance! All around the perfromance was amazing...I loved it from the moment it started to the moment it finished. Funniest moment was when Chris ripped his pants!! He said it only happens when he's really into the performance. Worst part was the people infront of us!:inquisitive:
  7. I'm going too!!...i shall take lots of photos and post them on monday when i get home :)

  10. My thoughts too, they've progressed alot like Coldplay too. I'm now listening to Empire of the Sun, love em!
  11. Their new tracks are quite good actually!! I've gotta be asleep before 10 on school night or after 11:30 or i'm totally stuffed the next day.
  12. I'm listening to Cut Copy they're good for this time of the night, gonna listen to Evermore's new tracks, that should really do the trick. Tiredness does consume. I should be wide awake still, but i had a long day and feel like i could sleep for hours. Yeah time differences can make it awfully difficult
  13. it's gonna benefit, especially seeing its so late for the Eastern States already, you must be very tired?
  14. the reason they invented headphones :laugh3:...i know what you mean...its the same here.
  15. Hahahaha, the Sunday Times posted the exact same article: COLDPLAY kicked off their Viva tour of Australia before 17,000 fans at Perth's Burswood Dome last night. At the first of two concerts in the west before moving on to Melbourne, the British band still had plenty of their old favourites to complement hits off their Viva La Vida album. Led by vocalist Chris Martin, the four-piece, alternative rock band waved sparklers as they moved onto the stage before a huge backdrop of the Liberty cover from their Viva La Vida release. They opened with a brief rendition of Life in Technicolor before moving onto another of the Viva songs, Violet Hill, and then delighting the crowd with one of their old favourites, Clocks, from their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. They then turned to the biggest selling album in the world last year, launching Cemeteries of London, 42, and Strawberry Swing. Among the older numbers from the band were In My Place, Fix You, Yellow, The Scientist and Speed of Sound. In a 20-song playlist, the band kept Life in Technicolor for the final number of the night and included all the songs off the new album. I guess they both got it form the same source AAP http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,,25117924-5005962,00.html
