  1. "i had never seen the first one:S in which songs does he play it?" I'm not sure he assigns specific ones to specific songs. From the live clips I've seen, he seems to swap them around fairly randomly. My guess would be that apart from the main one (which he keeps in standard tuning-2nd from front in pic), his tech probably just tunes one up as the song calls for it and hands it to him, rather than using a specific guitar for each tuning. It's also very possible that at least one is a backup for the main guitar, and doesn't get used live much. "and what's the guitar at the end of the rack standing on the floor with the white capo on the head? the les paul?" After blowing up that section of the photo, the neck looks like a "six to a side" fender headstock, so my guess would be it's one of the tele custom's. Can't be sure though...
  2. "do you have information on the mandolin and the "tuning" of the blues harp?" From the look of it, it looks like an old style Gibson mandolin, but I't hard to find any pictures of it where you get a close enough look to be sure. As for the harp, I would assume it follows the standard practice of being in whatever key they play DWNC live in, but I'm not sure off the top of my head what key that is.
  3. "will uses his doboro for death will never conquer, doesn't he?" Yes. He also plays it for most of the other songs they play acoustic (except for The Monkees cover) "who play's what in that song actually?? Guy a mandolin (what kind of mandolin is it?), will a guitar, chris? (blues harp?) Jonny?(maybe the tambourine?)" I think that's actually the correct list of what they all play, but I could be wrong on that.
  4. "Can you post some pictures?" (you can also see Will's Dobro at the back of the rack.) "Jonny has one as well?" He plays it in the Violet Hill and LiJ videos, I assume it's his because it's painted differently than any of the one's Chris has.
  5. Is there any halfway decent way to mimic a 12 string sound via anything but a modeling amp etc. My band is working on some new stuff that seems suited to that kind of sound, but I don't want to shell out the big bucks for top shelf gear, until I know for sure that it's right for the songs. I'm always looking for an excuse to try new pedals. :D Any thoughts?
  6. "there is someone around here who knows it best i guess, i think his name is fakfak" You flatter me!:wink3: Chris uses Gibson Custom Shop Blues King Reissues for the current tour. He has four of them. (Jonny also has one, but he doesn't seem to use it live much). http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/Small-Body/Gibson-Acoustic/Blues-King.aspx
  7. "i guess chris really needed to use his rounding up skills 12,000 is horrible" To be fair, Hersheypark Stadium is a venue that is notorious for it's poor drawing power, even for big acts. Coldplay's draw actually topped a number of other "big" acts to play the venue recently (most notably Bruce Springsteen.) Average attendence for shows on this leg (according to Billboard) is about 13,500 which is pretty much within Coldplay's usual range.
  8. "i guess there is no american one, is there? at least none below" According to Fender's website there is (though that's news to me as I thought all the reissues were made in Mexico or Japan.) "but this walnut thinline looks like a mexico, too." I know for certain the Walnut Tele is vintage. I assume the natural one is too. At the very least, they're all wired with vintage Wide Range Pickups which sound markedly different from both the Mexico and Japan reissues. Thanks everyone for your help...
  9. If it settles anything, Billboard Boxscore reports that the Hershey show drew 11,558. I know this thread has been dead for ages, but just thought some of the people involved in the earlier debate (which heavily centered around that show in particular), might be interested in the "official" number...
  10. "Does he still use it for GPASUYF/Talk? I honestly dont know." Yes. However the guitar he's using now may be a Jazzmaster copy as opposed to an official Fender made Jazzmaster. There are reports the guitar was built by Hugh Manson (who builds guitars for Matt Bellamy, among others.), But I've never read that in an "official" source, so who knows...:\
  11. Does anyone have a Clear Pic of Jon's Walnut Tele (his slide one) since the Pickguard has been painted? If so, can you please post here?
  12. "Guys. Jonny is my happy place. My escape from all the shit of this world. If I want to think something that seems unrealistic, why can't I? Why are you all attacking me? Do you seriously want me to fuck off and die? That's so very generous of you. I know my views are unrealistic. But what else am I supposed to do? Resort to drugs, alcohol, and other dustructive means to feel better? Or just talk about it, like I am TRYING to do. I do want Jonny to be happy. Probably a lot more than most people. More than you could know. Is it really so hard to understand why I don't like seeing them together? Have you never loved someone? This is all nothing to you. Just some argument for fun. I CAN'T try to ignore Jonny. I can't even try to ignore Coldplay. I hear them every single day at work. There is music playing over the intercom and I always hear Coldplay. Often several times a day. I can't get Jonny out of my life no matter what. So if you have any solutions, please tell me." First of all, It was never my intent to make you (or anyone else), feel like I wanted you "to fuck off and die". If I did, I sincerely appologize. I quite like most of what you have to say here on the forum, and didn't mean any offense.:\ That said, there is a difference between feeling bad seeing Jonny with his partner due to whatever personal feelings you may have, and crossing certain lines regarding civility and good taste regarding her, or their relationship, because of those feelings. This is not directed soley at you, but IMHO there have been quite a few times where people here have said some pretty out of line things about Chloe here, and IMHO that simply has no place here. That's all I meant to say.
  13. No, there's a least 4. A sunburst and a walnut one he's been using since the AROBTTH tour and a black and a natural that have been around since Twisted Logic. It appears he may have also gotten a 2nd sunburst one for the current tour
  14. "Ok, I'm showing my age here, but I saw U2 as the SUPPORTING act for the J Geils Band in 1982" :laugh3: "Freeze-Frame!" The October Tour though. that's impressive...
  15. "OK, that is NOT a FACT. It is your opinion. You do not KNOW they are happy" Except that by most measures available to those of us on the outside of their personal lives, they ACT like people in a happy relationship do. BUT FOR the fact they aren't married, they act in ways consistant with people in a stable happy relationship, and marriage doesn't really indicate anything one way or the other. Recent statistics, showed that a record and increasing number of people are in long term relationships, having children and NOT getting married, especially among European people, which last time I checked, Jonny and Chloe are.
  16. " Right back at you! OMG. Yes, I totally think anyone would love to get followed around by paps and be nothing but smiles. Please. I'm not stupid." Seeing as those types of situations account for 99% of the (public) pictures of her, I stand by my point. But hey, even if she doesn't smile there could be any number of reasons for that. Perhaps it's not in her nature to smile, or she doesn't like the way her teeth look, or anything really.;) Personally, I think the fact that she travels with Jonny, speaks strongly to their relationship being on solid footing. People in unhappy relationships often try to minimize the amount of time they spend with each other, not go out of their way to be around each other as much as possible.
  17. "how many guitars does Johnny use?" Live? Somewhere between 8-10 (there's an ongoing debate here as to whether he currently uses 4 0r 5 thinlines live.)
  18. "But we do know she rarely smiles in any pictures.". Umm... Would that be in the photos where someone is taking pictures of her 1 year old child as she walks through and airport, or the ones where someone is following her and her boyfriend around with a camera as they're out taking a walk. Yeah I can't think of any reason she'd be anything but smiles in those situations...:dozey: Besides, there are photos of her where she looks happy (Isle of Wight for example).
  19. "Once is still good. Have you ever seen them in concert before??" This summer's show will be my 8th show overall and my 3rd on the VLV tour.
  20. "I wish I could see them more than the 2 times I will this summer" I'm only seeing them once this summer (at alpine valley), but since they're one of only two bands I'll go to an amphitheater show to see, that's still pretty good for me...
  21. "But for Coldplay's sake they should rather play cities than rural areas " See, I'm of the opposite viewpoint. I think it's really cool to see such a major band go to places where they don't get major acts very often. As someone who spent his entire life until the last few years living in a "rural" area away from a major city, I think it's a nice change to see such a major tour making a few stops in places their peers would look over without a second thought.
  22. The Home Depot Center has a listed capcity of over 30,000 for an end stage concert. I'm sure it varies by act, but still if they sold it out that's an impressive feat for any band. I think a lot of the "failure" talk was spurred by a few snarky media articles that made the rounds online last week that they "only" drew around 12,000 in Hershey (in a venue that seats around 30,000). It should also be pointed out that a lot of people really don't like amphitheater venues.
  23. All bands have to capitalize on whatever momentum they've got while they've got it because it could go away at any time
  24. " Outdoor amphitheaters almost never sell out for anyone because the venues can pack the lawn like there's no tomorrow" Agreed. It seems like the Amphitheaters here in Chicago will NEVER declare the show sold out no matter how oversold the lawn is...
  25. "but he gets a cool chorus sound during the second part cause he's playing the same pitch on two different strings." Plus the Micro POG is giving him that cool psuedo 12-string sound in that part.
