Looking for photo...
Thanks for the help everyone!:D I must say that's probably my favorite design of all the painted guitars. As for if it's new or the same, I'll agree with , really can't figure it out... My inclination is to say that it's probably not a seperate guitar, as I don't see why he'd have 5 of them on the road at one time (plus at least 2 other guitars), as he doesn't play in that many altered tunings or anything. There are guitarists who would need that many to handle tuning issues for a show (Keith Richards for example), but I don't thin JB's tunings are complicated enough to need them...

Looking for photo...
The other day, I thought I saw a picture of JB playing a sunburst thinline tele with a painted pickguard, but now I can't seem to find it. Before he left his sunburst one unpainted, so is this a new guitar or did he really get that one painted too now? (or did I imagine the whole thing?)

Guitar strap Advice
Thanks. I've not really paid that much attention to straps available before as my $5 nylon fender ones work just fine with my Tele's. Guess I should broaden my horizons a bit...

[Pictures] 6th December 2008: Chris Martin Leaving London Home
Back in 2003, he gave an interview in which he was asked what the most "rock and roll" thing he'd bought was and he responded 100 indentical hooded tops...;)

[Pictures] 6th December 2008: Chris Martin Leaving London Home
So, we've established that musicians leave their homes carrying(sp?) instruments...;) Seriously though, while I do agree that it's pointless to speculate on the state of their marriage based on thescant information that is available to the public, it seems to me that the fact that though they are both traveling heavily on promotional schedules at the moment, they both took time to actually be home at the same time (and thus presumably together) if anything indicates their marriage is probably in ok shape...

It's not so much an issue of the strap coming off as it is ending up with a huge knot in my shoulder from 10+ pounds of weight...

Guitar strap Advice
I'm experimenting with my new Les Paul and am finding that the standard 2" Fender straps I use on my other guitars are simply not working well for me with a guitar of this weight. Anyone have any suggestions?

Guitarist Joe Satriani sues Coldplay for plagiarism
"Guys seriously, half the reason people call us "gay" sometimes is because some Coldplay fans tend to be a tad sensative. No matter what band you are there are always gonna be plenty of haters. I *()&^%^ hate Kanye West but there are PLENTY of people who like him. Just the way it goes. Don't take being called "gay" and people bashing Coldplay so personally. It just means they have caught plenty of people's attention. Would you rather them say "oh, who is this Coldplay?". Be proud of who you are... some of my best friends have said I'm "gay for Coldplay" and I tell them...yeah...I guess I probably am a little...because there is no denying that I love the band so why hide it or be ashamed. The lead singer of my band actually IS gay (and actually doesn't even care for Coldplay) and he has no problem admitting it...If someone wants to give him a hard time about it that is their problem. " As I said in an earlier post, I think the reason Coldplay fans can sometimes be sensitive is that much of the critisism directed at them goes far beyond the usual "there music's shit" stuff common to all bands, and frequently takes the form of incredibly cruel barbs directed at the band (or their fans) as people. Unlike most people (appearently), I don't personally know any members of Coldplay, I have no idea what they're like as people (beyiond their public persona), therefore, I am unqualified to comment on anything but their music, which IMHO i quite good. As I saidmy reason for believing that they did not copy the song is based on pragmatic reasons and is two-fold: GIVEN THAT: Joe Satriani is in point of fact a quite well known artist. I find it therefore hard to believe that: 1. Coldplay (or any artist) would be stupid enough to think noone would catch blatant plagiarism. and 2. That if the song was copied, none of the literally hundreds of musically aware people involved with the record prior to release would catch it and blow the whistle on them.

"I do agree that this is a PR nightmare for Coldplay. " IMHO it is, and it isn't. Public opinion of Coldplay has always been extrmely polarized at both the positive and negative ends. At this point most people's opinion of them will likely not change much over this situation. Based on comments I've read around a variety of places, it seems like the majority of the people decrying Coldplay for this, hated them long before now and were just waiting for an opening. Likewise, it seems many of their fans have really rallied to their defense, which actually could end up reflecting some degree of negative sentiment back on Satriani... "The thing that concerns me is that I was lookng at some interviews with Satriani and he just seems so knowledgeable about music theory and the guitar. According to what I read he's played with most of the great guitar players. So he must really feel that he's got a case." I'm sure he does, as it really doesn't make sense to go to the expense and trouble of filing a lawsuit if you don't think there's a solid chance you can win. Likewise, Coldplay must feel they did nothing wrong and that they can prove this in court or they would have likely resolved the case with a settlement rather than facing a lengthy (and public) legal battle. Also, while I understand it does take some time to pu together all the info/documents etc. needed to file a lawsuit, the timing still seems a little fishy to me. Coupled with the fact that Satriani appears to be seeking punative damages over royalties and/or composition credit, maks the whole "he's not doing it for the money" lie suspect.

With that, I think I can pull myself away from here long enough to drink some brandy, stumble into bed and hopefully recover from my flu...

Very interesting. Also interesting how the band all seem relatively relaxed regarding the subject there. Perhaps that's at least one good sign.:)

"It's a shame Coldplay didn't pick up any grammy's in 2006, since we're sure to clean up this february we could've been on our way to a record by winning grammy's off every single album...but u2 had to go and drop a dismantled bomb on us..." If you want to get super technical, one of the remixes of Talk did win for someting, even though that didn't go to the band. Anyway it's an unfair playing field as U2 songs seem to be eligable(SP) in purpetuity until the win.:laugh3:

"I think they'll be fine though. They've known about this for a while and I would have hoped they had built up a level of professionalism by now" I'm mainly worried about Chris saying something he shouldn't and pouring more fuel on the fire...

"I swear everytime I hear that riff on the radio I get my hopes up, but they get crushed when th "ice" flows in" You listen to a radio station that actually plays Vanilla Ice?:laugh3: Anyway, we should be getting the first reports of what state the boys were in tonight in a few hours, I'm interested to know...;) EDIT: From Wikipedia corcerning the Vanilla Ice thing: " Rob Van Winkle drew controversy by claiming that he owed no royalties for using a bass line almost identical to "Under Pressure", citing one minor alteration. Although no lawsuit was ever filed, the rapper supposedly settled out of court, and songwriting credit was retroactively given to the members of Queen and David Bowie.[1] Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight claimed his friend had written the lyrics to the song, and forced Van Winkle to sign the publishing rights to him. It was reported that Knight had allegedly dangled Van Winkle by the ankles over the balcony to get royalties from the song. Van Winkle denied these claims, stating "They had some papers there and Suge took me out on the balcony by myself [...] He took me out on the balcony, and he had me look over the balcony, ya know. And I looked over and he basically says to me, 'You're gonna sign these papers here. You wanna come to my city, you're gonna have to pay to play, brother.' And I go, 'OK, I got the picture, ya know.'"[

"Again, I agree with you. I think this incident carries the accusation that Coldplay are stupid. No musician is that stupid, well, except for Vanilla Ice" :laugh3:

It makes sense that they've heard of him as Satriani is pretty well known in musician's circles. However, I still say it's highly unlikely any of the boys have listend that extensively to his work. Also, is it just me or does this whole thing carry the backhanded acusation that Coldplay are Stupid. I mean really, you would have to be pretty dense to willfully rip off another known established artist and think you could get by with it. On a sort of related topic, do labels check at all to see that their major artists are not plagiarizing (intentionally or otherwise) already known work? Seems to me it would be worth their time considering all the time/money/effort they expend to diffuse other potential scandals from their big artists. I mean really, for Coldplay to actually get as far as actually releasing something ripped off someone else, considering all the people involved in preparing such a big album for release, would require a consperacy(sp?) worthy of the X-Files...:laugh3:

I'm sure they'll be fine, just hope Chris keeps his mouth shut when they play it" Most likely, he hve recieved specific legal advice on what he can say safely from this point forward. All of this assumes of course that they will still continue to play the song. They could always employ the tactic Noel Gallagher used with Step Out, whereby he essentially buried the song, so that even though Stevie Wonder owns the rights he essentially got nothing from the song...

"Will be interesting to see what his demeanour is like at tonight's gig" It's not just Chris though. Of all the boys, only Will comes off as a truly confident individual. The rest of them have all had very public moments of doubt over the years. I'm sure the band has known of this for some time though, you don't usually get to the lawsuit phase of this kind of thing without going through a lot of back room wrangling with lawyers and such.

"It's more then 4-5 "notes". He wouldn't get all the proceeds from the entire album. You guys make some pretty wild guesses." Except that if you actually search for the documents in quewstion (and they have been posted somewhere-maybe the smoking gun? I'm to tired to go back and find it right now...), you'll see that he seems to be more interestd in punative damages than actual compensation or credit for asong he thinks he wrote, which to me turns any legitimate complaint he has (and he might well have one IMHO), into a simple cashgrab. I assume Satriani has done quite well for himself based on his success, but I would be astounded if he has anything close to Coldplay money, and everyone could use the assload of cash that comes from holding the rights to a single as big as VLV... Coincidently, with the CD analogy, it seems to me that a lot of people would say that IS ok, based on the current debate going on over P2P, DRM etc. But that's an arguement for another thread... "Well said! I am amused by the Satriani fans who say "Joe's a nice guy"... yeah, so nice he sues someone for three notes in a different key.. and times it just after the Grammy nominations!" From all reports though, Satriani IS a nice guy, and though I agree the timing of the lawsuit is fairly suspect, it does take time to prepare to mount a lawsuit, and who knows all the legal stuff that may have been going on "behind the scenes" before now.
