  1. Good luck with that. While these things are popular with fans of the band, they're not really destined to become super high end collectables of rock history or anything like that.
  2. Question on Will's tom: It says it's from the Wembley stadium gig, but I thought they didn't play there last year? :\ The three regular London gigs were at Emirates, and the paraolympics one was at the new olympic stadium right? Did they play Wembley some other time?
  3. They're not terribly off from what the viva items were, especially considering these can only apparently ship to the UK, whereas only a few items were so limited in the last sale. The relative breakdown of prices is even similar. (ie what sorts of items are going highest to lowest.)
  4. It was the one he tossed every night at the end of GPASUYF.
  5. They all had more than one outfit for the tour (or rather multiple articles of clothing as I believe it was a mix and match type of situation.) That's why all of them are at least identified by one promo photo, which may or may not represent the only time all of the articles in question were worn together.
  6. As with most things, I'd imagine that it varies greatly based on what area you're in, your experience level etc., but where I live that seems quite at the low end of a professional musician for this type of event. Still, if you're doing it for experience and/or exposure, it seems to me it might be good to bid low, especially as (it sounds like) you're not a seasoned performer in that type of situation. So...If that amount of cash satisfies you for the work involved, I'd say go for it, if not then pass. :)
  7. I'm almost positive his specific reverb sound there is coming from the Eventide Processor in his rack, which is a really complex and insanely expensive effects processor. A lot of his Viva era effects come from that particular unit, which I believe is either an H8000 or an H7600 (I don't know rack effects all that well).
  8. Glad I could help. I've spent a rather large amount of time obsessing over Jonny's sound and equipment, so if you have any more questions feel free to post or PM me. Basically, if you're looking for an approximation of Jonny's sound, any fender with the widerange pickups, plus a fender amp plus some sort of delay should get you fairly close. There's also a member here named Deano, who's lead guitar in a Coldplay tribute band (who manage a great approximation of the actual Coldplay sound IMHO), and he's posted a lot of great details about what effects and stuff he uses, so it might interest you to look him up for technical details.
  9. Not exactly, but I would assume he, like most guitarists in massive bands, he uses a wide variety of guitars and amps to get his studio sound. I've seen pictures of him in the studio with most of his stage guitars, but also others, like (what appears to be) a goldtop les paul, an old guild, and a moog guitar that has a lot of synth effects and whatnot built in. I've seen him use a huge variety of amps as well, so I'm not sure there either, but I've seen him using various fenders, marshalls (what appears to be) an Orange cab and head, and a couple of really old vibrotone/silvertone amps from the 50's or early 60's. A lot of pro guitarists have massive collections, into the 100's of instruments, and JB most likely has some vintage or rare pieces that don't tour, so there's not much way of knowing exactly what he used for any given song, and even if you did, you'd need a ton of money to replicate it. I will also add that guitars and amps are funny in that two of the exact same model still won't sound exactly the same (and this goes double for vintage and modded gear) and a large amount of studio tone comes from things like mic placement so you'll never perfectly replicate someone else's tone. I would suggest just finding a tone that sounds good to your ear.
  10. It's not like the last sale where they sold the bulk of the VLV tour gear. There's plenty of stuff left to make an appearance in the future should nostalgia seize the band.
  11. Nope. The one I'm thinking of he was wearing in the photoshoot that Jonny's outfit from the auction came from. He must've had two (or more) EDIT: That may actually be the same one, it just looks way different in that photo.
  12. He's naturally built for winter climates. :sneaky: Seriously though, he did have one, he just wore it more rarely than the others. Brown leather IIRC.
  13. I never said they properly understood the situation. If they did, they wouldn't be so far behind the curve. ;)
  14. That's because he most likely uses a bunch of other stuff in the studio. There are a fair amount of studio photos with him playing guitars in the studio that he doesn't use live, that and a ton of effects.
  15. I've had the chance to play several of them, and I own a real one from the mid 70's. (as opposed to a reissue). I like them quite a bit, and I think they're pretty versitile as far as style goes, but they're not for everyone. They certainly are not in line with the typical "fender" tone a lot of people want. Actually, it sounds more akin to a Les Paul or something, but it has the better (imho) ergonomics, playing feel, and build construction of a fender. The new ones are great value for the money too, and if you are looking for a vintage one, they're fairly common and fairly reasonable in price as far as vintage guitars go. As with any guitar though, I'd never buy one without playing it first. If you find one you like, go for it! :)
  16. Really, the point is mostly to scare of casual users, people who aren't particularly savvy about how things work, and who won't go out of their way to get around a block, but who might use these sites if they're readily available. On that score, the succeed rather well.
  17. I'd guess you're correct on 2015, but I'd give next year more of a shot, depending on what their release plans are. FWIW, there's never been a period in the history of the band, where they've had more than one year in a row where they didn't play any gigs.
  18. They're a great band. Should be massive. Classic post punk sound which is my most favorite genre of music ever.
  19. They also have a very distinctive sound that probably isn't the best for Coldplay's style of music. Many players think them best suited for flat picking or open picking, neither of which Chris really does. Almost all the professionals I've seen/known using them are lead players, not rhythm players.
  20. A lot of those bands still use a lot of pre-recorded backing even with their extra musicians. Morgan Nichols (sp?) who plays with Muse for example is largely there to trigger MIDI loops from his keyboard rig, which essentially means that much of the time he's out there as the operator of the backing tracks. Just because you see extra guys, doesn't necessarily mean you're actual hearing more live sounds. I also firmly believe that a great deal more of what you hear at a typical Coldplay show is live than a lot of people believe. It's really only strings and some synths that get back-tracked with regularity. A lot of the other stuff that sounds like taped instrumentation is actually produced by the band members, Jonny's small MIDI keyboard produces a lot of the synths and whatnot, and Will has several MIDI triggers on his drums that can be used to produce a wide variety of sounds (both drum related and otherwise.) But yeah, in a broader sense, almost none of this stuff has any chance of happening. A Coldplay show is a Coldplay show. Like all bands, they've developed their own style to live performance and it is what it is. If they haven't changed by now, they probably won't going forward. Just my opinion.
  21. I know...:\
  22. Indie as in actual independent band? certainly not. Indie in the sense of a style of music (particularly as used by the British music press)? Debatable.
  23. Well, it does have the general reputation of being the finest track of the MX era.
  24. I never said it did. The fact remains however, that even if it's not indicative of where they're going, this one track does harken back to an older sound that a lot of people miss, and timed as it is after several years and two albums than divided the fanbase somewhat (especially MX), coupled with the highly visible platform the film will provide it, I don't see how that can be regarded as anything less than a very shrewd move on the part of the band. They may go with something completely different in the future, but here in this one moment, they've given a lot of people exactly what they wanted, and thought they'd never get.
  25. I can understand that. It's hardly new ground for them. Still, considering how many people have been literally begging for them to revisit that old ground, and the fact that this track has gotten a more uniformly positive response (both fan and critical) than anything on the last two albums I think it was probably the right move for them at this time. Plus , in a commercial sense, it doesn't hurt in the slightest to be associated with one of the biggest things going in film (and actually probably all of pop culture) at the moment. But I guess that does kind of validate your argument that they're trying to be massive. (which I don't dispute, I just think they always were.)
