  1. As near as I can figure it, here's what he's actually got on the road with him this tour: -4 Vintage Thinlines Sunburst Walnut Natural Black (Black and Natural are painted) -Les Paul Deluxe Cherry Sunburst -Fender Jazzmaster Bubblegum Pink 2 Gibson J-200 Acoustics
  2. "Play it yourself and compare it to the album." If I attempt to play slide, it's going to sound mangled regardless of the tuning...:laugh3: You could be right though, it's not like he has to retune all the strings or anything.
  3. "notes above are right, but the high E is actually tuned to D" Are you sure? I've seen video of him playing Trouble right after playing a song in standard tuning without changing guitars.
  4. "well i know he does have an eventide rack unit." That's why I mentioned it. There's nothing else in his set up that I can see that sounds like that. I still think it sounds like some kind of tape delay, but he doesn't have one...
  5. Know this thread's been dead for ages, but Blender Online's current "33" list makes a (IMHO) pretty good point about why encores are largely useless and pretty much suck. Couldn't figure out a good place to post that (though the article sums up my feelings on encores exactly), so I thought I might as well post here as encores were a major point of the debate on this thread.
  6. Someone told me that the Eventide unit does good reverse reverb, so it could be with that, but I don't know enough about that particular unit to have any idea if this is accurate or not.
  7. Glad you're digging the RAT!:laugh3: " just a clean-boost stompbox with one knob. It doestn't really do much alone. But you can use it to drive the preamp of your tube-amp into saturation. I use it to drive my modded RAT. This way i get the most awesome overdrive/distortion sound i've ever had. You also get much better sustain. I didn't really like my RAT until i discovered " That's also what Jon does (or rather used to do) to get the slight distortion in Yellow and a few other songs. Plus, some songs just work better with a straight boost in the mix...
  8. My work schedule has been killing me lately, (which is why I've not been here as much as I was...;))
  9. " I have to wake up early" That's the bane of my existence as well. As low man on the totem pole at my new job, I've been saddled with the 6:00 a.m. shift every day the last two weeks.
  10. "700 is way to much. Its more near 400." I'd guess it's somewhere around the middle of those two amounts (closer to the low end). There's still something weird going on tonally in addition to straight delay. The Micro POG can produce effects, similar to those heard here with the "reversed" delay, but I don't think it's used in this song.
  11. "Yes fakfak that was a stab at you" You wound me! :laugh3: Seriously though, over the years, I've been able to find quite a bit of cool gear at yard sales and the like...
  12. "...His Parachutes-X&Y set up ..." Well, by the time X&Y rolled around, he already had several rare and vintage pedals in his setup, as well as a custom built MIDI switcher, but yeah, his Parachutes era board is a good place to start if you want to build a nice rig that's pretty comprehensive without going overboard.
  13. "Their purpose is to look nice and not colour the sound" Virtually all the few players I know who own/play basses with those covers, prefer to remove them. I've heard they can really scrape your fingers and knuckles if you're not careful...
  14. "Get a drummer" That only works if the rest of the band has good enough timing to play in time with the drummer...;)
  15. "What does Chris use for his distortion?" A while back, we had a thread discussing this, and nobody could find info on what Chris was using for effects. A few people seemed to think it was just the dirty side of his amp, but his distorted tones sound too warm to me to be that. My guess was that he was using either an Ibanez Tube Screamer or an MXR Micro Amp with the gain dialed all the way up. For the VLV era performances though, he can be seen with some type of MIDI footswitch, so he's probably using rack now.
  16. The thing people forget to keep in mind with pedals, is that they're complicated pieces of equipment. No matter how well designed/built they are they can only take so much abuse...
  17. "I heard mixed reviews upon the DL4s durability." If you treat it with a basic level of care and respect, it holds up fine. If however, you're one of those people who expects your gear to withstand a multi story drop without a scratch, it's probably not for you...
  18. "Any suggestions as to a distortion or Overdrive." RAT is fairly good. The only thing is it has a crisp tone that some people think sounds to clear and clean to be proper distortion. My personally faves (outside the already discussed Lovetone) are the Sobbat Drive Breaker pedals (I think the most recent issues is the DB3). They have a huge amount of versitility in the types of distortion they can produce. The only drawback is the price, which is fairly steep (I think all Sobbat Pedals are imported from Japan or somewhere else in Asia:confused:)... Also IMHO Boss doesn't really make good distortion pedals.
  19. "The '72 reissues have then now dont they" No, they have "reissue wide range pickups", which, although IMHO slightly better than the pickups in earlier Thinline reissues, still are tonally closer to Gibson Humbuckers. Wikipedia has some good detailed informtion about the exact differences between the three types.
  20. "Line 6 is mediocer. I will always go Boss over Line 6." I assume you're both talking about the Pod Multi FX Pedals. While I wouldn't go so far as to call them awful, they do have issues. However, if you're looking at a rack unit Line 6 is hands down the best you can get before you cross into super high end gear.
  21. LiJ is actually probably using the TC delays. They produce a distinct sound from the Line 6 units, and I think that's what I can hear in the recording. (live could be something else)...
  22. "...He said he had messed with it a bit or else I would have made a fairly reasonable offer to him for it." IMHO the it's only worth spending the money to get an orginal one is ifit has the actual original wide range pickups.
  23. "Please let me know what you think" I'm very pleased with it. It is the most tonally wide ranging distortion I've ever played. It can sound really saturated and heavy while also giving you crisp, focused RAT like distortion. Plus, like all Lovetone Pedals it's built like a tank. It's really a shame Lovetone isn't around anymore, and that all their pedals are now so expensive, because they're all really great. Now if I could just get my hands on a RingStinger...:wink3:
  24. "Girls Aloud" Really?:laugh3: That's of dubious taste even by already suspect Chris Martin standards...:P
  25. Just just awesome new pedal: Lovtone Brown Source!:) Picked it up cheap at of all places a yard sale!:laugh3: I believe the going rate is about $300 us. paid $20 Us for it.:smug: (I felt kinda bad about it, but the woman having the sale refused to take more...)
