Albert Hammond, Jr. To Support Coldplay For European Tour
"...we got Black Mountain" To be fair, the larger percentage of 2005 U.S. dates got Rilo Kiley, which is IMHO, a pretty decent band. Although, though I'm decidely in the minority on both counts, I like both Santogold and Black Mountain.

Capo on acoustic guitar.
"And I don't know if it will work with all strings for acoustic guitars." It works ok for most strings, I just wouldn't do it to nylon ones. (and as the post above said, it doesn't always work well, even for strings suited to it...)

Capo on acoustic guitar.
Just got back... They can't find anything wrong with the truss or neck, or any other observable defect in the guitar itself, but they did have the same intonation problem I did. :\ At this point, I'm chalking it up to humidity, though I've had my guitar in more humid weather than now with no problem...

Albert Hammond, Jr. To Support Coldplay For European Tour
"No 4th Strokes album for a while longer then" As I understand it, the 4th Strokes LP was never supposed to begin recording until the end of the year. (if it ever does at all), so I don't think this will have much of an effect on that at all.

Albert Hammond, Jr. To Support Coldplay For European Tour
A few rumors were going around a few weeks back suggesting Your Vegas was a strong possibility for the UK dates support.nothing seems to have come of that (yet), and I can't find anything on it now. Perhaps they were based on faulty info and that's why they seem to have fizzled?:embarassed:

Trouble with Rhythm
What helped me when I was learning timing was to play along with a recording of some kind. Since I knew what time the song in the recording was in, I could work until I was able to match it. At the same time, I never felt bored because I was playing along to music I liked. After I did this for a while, my timing "sense" improved enough that I was able to play in time on my own.

Do those who play The Scientist or Yellow on an acoustic guitar
"What are the best chords to emulate this without a bass?" Well, if you want to go the external effects root, there are several pedals that can give you a Bass-ish tone. You can get pretty close with a Digitech Whammy if you play with the settings a bit. (I think this is how Jack White makes the Bass sounds in some White Stripes songs, but I'm not sure).

Capo on acoustic guitar.
The neck doesn't look warped, and the truss rod seems straight. That's what's puzzling to me. I've heard of people having similar issues with warped parts, but if you can't see the warping, it must be very slight, but if it's so slight, how can it throw off the pitch... I'll take it to the shop on Monday I guess...:embarassed:

Capo on acoustic guitar.
Recently, whenever I play my acoustic with a capo on (any position, but I mostly play on 2nd fret.) the tuning goes off after I remove the Capo (not standard and not the capo-ed tuning). I've been playing for several years and this never was an issue until a few weeks ago. I suspect this may be due to warping of the guitar neck, though warping is not visable to the naked eye. Any thoughts on what could cause this?

Effects in Fix You solo
The very slight distortion in these songs comes (or rather used to come) from an MXR Micro Amp with the gain knob dialed to maximum in congunction with delay effects. Since he's no longer using the MXR, I immagine the distortion is coming from his Ibanez Tube Screamer now...

Does Lovers in Japan use a Leslie Speaker?
"Maybe at one point in recording, but I doubt it live. Live it is easier to turn that sound into a MIDI and eliminate a piece of equipment. The days of keyboardists having 4-5 different keyboards in a rig are really gone with the advent of multi-purpose hammer action full weighted 88 keyboards and keyboard MIDI controllers. I would LOVE to see someone use a Hammond Organ live though." There are pedals and MIDI devices that simulate Leslie's pretty well. (the Hughes and Kettner Rotosphre being perhaps the most well known example.) I believe Oasis still uses a Vintage Hammond on stage, but I could be wrong on that. Their live keyboardist has a fairly old school setup with about 4 seperate keyboards.

"so I guess you remembered me when you wrote 99% huh" Well, you do represent the remaining 1%...:laugh3: It just seems funny to me that people post hear asking how to get a specific sound, and when pointed in the direction of the actual gear used to originally create said sound, say it's crap gear.:dozey:

"I also hate my school and the fake people I have to be with for 8 hours" I know the feeling. However, the people I have to work with now are worse than any of the people I went to school with, and that's saying a lot...:dozey:

"Line 6 is okay. I wouldn't buy Line 6 again" Line 6 is more than ok. If it sucked half as bad as some people seem to think, it wouldn't be used by as many top notch pros that use it. Consider the following players, all of whom use Line 6 gear to a large extent: -The Edge -Matt Bellamy -Ed O'Brien & Jonny Greenwood -Jonny Buckland Just for a start. All of these guys can afford any gear they want, and they choose line 6. Furthermore, as 99% of the sounds people post here trying to get are made by one of these guys, it's reasonable to recommend using gear similar(sp?) to what they actually use to make those sounds. Yes, the Multi FX units they make have some issues, but they're ok if you're just starting and want a fairly decent multi FX unit. Just my opinion...

Back To School
"I just moved back into college today and lucky enough to get my own room! (that is, no roommate). I finally have a peaceful and quiet room all to myself so I may go about my....activities :wink3: without interruption." I had my own room as well for the last two years of college. I figure I made out just about even since prior to that I had a roomate who saved his urine in empty orange juice bottles (" 'Cause I'm not gonna go all the way to the bathroom in the midldle of the night man!") :\ He was the biggest creep ever...

"Hmm...I played the alto saxophone for about 8 years; after high school it's been gathering dust in its case in the attic." I played alto sax too. 5-6th grade band, then it went in the closet where to my knowledge it still lives. Over a decade ago now...

Does Lovers in Japan use a Leslie Speaker?
A few bits of it sure sound like it. I can't tell though if this is a function of the synths or an actual Leslie. Anyone know?

"in recent years I've heard a lot of people saying Gibson/Epiphones build quality is sliding but not sure how much truth there is to it." In my experience it varies a HUGE amount from model to model (and often from guitar to guitar). Some new Gibson/Epi guitars are really shoddy, but there are still some that are excellent. The big problem I've seen from new gibsons is that they consistantly come with absolutely horrid factory set-ups. (since I always give my new guitars a set up anyway, this isn't really a problem for me.) Of course on a purely technical basis, all major guitar makers (except perhaps Rickenbacker) are more automated and mass production oriented than ever, so it could be said the quality of most new guitars is not on the level it used to be. BTW- in my last post I forgot to mention the Voodoo Strat. Fender no longer produces them, but they are fairly common and their value is not much more than a new Strat. They have a really cool unique tone.
