  1. Well, I did, but now it seems destined to join a line of very heavy and large paperweights. my attempt at picturing the map with webcam at night also: 1. some of chloe's photos are peeling off, okay to re-glue and fix? 2. was there a dragonfly sticker on the front cover at some point? it's fallen off, but there are spare stickers provided in the scrapbook to replace it
  2. the overall point with the etiaw comparison is that poc is hated unfairly for things it's not trying to do (bar the conveyance of hurt emotion), meanwhile songs that are pretty bland for what they're meant to accomplish get off relatively unscathed, maybe just a snippy mention but largely forgotten and nowhere near as trashed i actually have an etiaw live recording on my ipod off one of the singles, i can't remember which, and it does sound better than the album one, i agree. however my mind goes back to the studio version every time because that's what i and what other people are more likely to hear the most.
  3. TOPIC NUMERO UNO, CONTROVERSIALO: Princess of China is not that bad (really) Apologies for the terrible title. Straight off the bat with what is likely to be a highly contested topic! Please note, a disclaimer: I have pretty much 0 musical training. This is just based off my listening opinion, and probably mostly my feels. The songs of discussion, for the uninitiated: I recently discovered, when up late and rather unusually listening to Coldplay songs instead of sleeping, that I actually knew the words to Princess of China. Being a very slightly old-timey, more 'classic' Coldplay fan that pretty much thinks A Rush Of Blood To the Head was their best album effort, Viva La Vida[...] was a highly worthy artistic venture and Mylo Xyloto was very questionable at times but had some redeeming features, this was a bit of a rude shock. 'But Princess of China is lyrically rubbish,' I thought. 'They wrote it just so Rihanna could be on the album. How does it even fit with the rest thematically apart from pounding beats and waves of synth? And don't get me started on 'YOU STOLE MY STAR ALALLAALALALLAALAA!!!'... what lazy lyrics.' Yes, to me, this is not a particularly a deep or meaningful song. Though I think... just quietly, to myself... I enjoy it slightly. It's one of those guilty pleasures for me. I don't enjoy it because the lyrics are not brutally honest in their emotiveness (that's not a real word, but I'm going with it) like many past Coldplay songs - and really, it isn't trying to be. Nor is it trying to be particularly original, complex or clever. It's catchy and a bit fun, sneaking into your memory. This, to me, is what Coldplay at least somewhat set out to do when they made Princess of China... and it does it fairly well. I feel like it gets a lot of hate for that. Sure, it's not the best at being a monumental break-up song, as it does fail to convey the actual emotion behind 'hurt' in my opinion. You might want to listen to Amsterdam for a better idea of Coldplay accomplishing that. Let's, on the other hand, look at a song like Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall. This is pretty much one of those stadium anthems that are meant to inspire people to get moving along to the music inside a biggity big big venue. It certainly does try... again with thumping beats, as well as lyrics about singing and dancing and how wonderful all that is; that really aren't very emotive or complicated. But to me, this is where Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall falls short. It's not catchy enough to be memorable or infectiously fun. It doesn't pull at any sort of heartstrings that would make me sing or dance (while I generally don't dance, I just go by what I feel would make a reasonable person want to do so). It fails at what I think Coldplay set out to do and make me feel. For this reason, I think it is actually worse than Princess of China in it's pure mediocrity. Time for reader dear's opinions: do you think Princess of China is really as bad as the initial hate indicated? Has your initial opinion of it changed? What do you like or dislike about it? Is it fair to judge a song based on qualities it may not be trying to accomplish, or fair game? etc
  4. Hello everyone. You may remember me from such places around the forum as "The Lounge" and "What is this fool doing in the Coldplay section?", as well as "Backhanding the Blind Fan 8: Electric Boogaloo - Part 2" In this thread I post my occasional Coldplay musings, as putting them on Facebook all the time will probably piss people off and The Lounge doesn't need any of dat stuff in their biz Hopefully they will bring up some good discussion, please say why you agree or disagree... you know, reasonings. If you're just going to say WOW THIS IS GREAT, use the thanks button for heaven's sake, that's why it's there. Topics History: TOPIC NUMERO UNO, CONTROVERSIALO: Princess of China is not that bad (really)
  5. it's painful in terms of the becoming (though better now for me at least) oh yeah and i forgot about my health scares earlier in the year
  6. hahaha holy shit this thread was good itt: we reserve the right to point, laugh and make fun of you
  7. i don't know if i enjoy or despair at the thought that ea are just kinda squeezing the rest of the cash cow of the third game and then dumping its glitches and problems to make a new installment that will likely also have had features stripped for EPs, issues etc sigh, i'll probably buy it anyway when it's on sale, not paying that $90-120 shops are asking. if anything it'll drop down to 60, perhaps less within a year and a bit
  8. the australian high court ruled that the ACT's (state that contains canberra) laws that enabled same sex marriage were not valid earlier this week not a please at all, some people got married within that timeframe too and will prob face anullments
  9. I don't have an actual camera working right now, will holding it up in front of my web cam suffice? I've started a little bit, my plans were kinda foiled by the fact that my typewriter I was planning to use for ARTISTIK AFFECT is out of ink, or rather, the ink ribbon is gone and the only place on the Internets that seems to stock replacements only ships to the US. But, I will think of something.
  10. Oh cripes, I entirely forgot about this from being so busy studying. I'll be able to work on it now though seeing as I have the next two months free. Gotta get that list of people off my other laptop though.
  11. - made some friends i guess - was compensated for my dads passing last year, managed to upgrade some stuff that sorely needed it - competed in the first ever pokemon video game national competition for my country, i got knocked out early but it was still really cool to finally have official events that could take one to worlds - helped out with a couple pokeman tournaments, we managed to get back on good terms with one of the major gaming stores to host events there (our local version of gamestop) after previous people had caused a lot of damage to those relations - became single (was the very sads) - finished my IT course, progressing onto the next level - hung around on here for another year YEAH mixed i guess, but not as rollercoaster-y as last year
  12. Funny this gets bumped as I'm wrestling with getting TS2 working on my Windows 8 laptop... a combination seemingly notorious for borkdom.
  13. can i bump when i need to PP
  14. so apparently can get onto tchat with dial up speed internet OPEN TO CONNECTIONS OF ALL SPEEDS (or lack thereof)
  15. I got it today. Incompetent postie decided to shove it in my mailbox instead of near the door, resulting in quite the struggle to free Scrappy. The operation was a success with relatively minor damage (some fraying of the leather front cover around the corners and the bindery bit, though this doesn't seem too bad and the book is perfectly usable). I'll have to start planning my pages in the next few days.
  16. may not be on as much as my internet has gone supa slow til the 14th
  17. do you need a pinch or a kick
  18. Just letting you guys know I am in a little bit of a bind with my savings and wouldn't be able to pay for shipping until around either: a) Christmas with Xmas money I get from relatives b) February c) Putting aside a little from my payments every fortnight Whichever comes first and hasn't already passed by the time I get Scrappy.
  19. :') i actually don't know now because my health would likely improve if i cut out all the chocolate i eat in my junk food... but it is so nice
  20. how about making quality games that result in a thoughtful response dun dun dunnnn
