  1. Jetstream is an amazing song. Love it on first listen. Everyone seems to be going for a new sound which is great. Doves always move forward with every release anyway. Cannot wait for the album.
  2. Muse- think Queen mixed with Radiohead, loud but emotional. Most amazing live band on the planet. Starlight is my personal fav but that may be the most commercial track on the album. Keane- think David Bowie, Talking Heads, Human League, Talk Talk making an album together today. The 80's in the 00's. Better Than This is my fav here. Jon Hopkins- think ambient rave mixed with sonic shoegaze sounds. Eno, Seefeel, Spacemen 3, MBV. The new album Insides only available on Itunes for now is his best album. Light Through the Veins is best track. Coldplay fans will recognise this. All good albums in very different ways. Hope you chose well...:)
  3. At the moment it would be Slowdive Deerhunter The Secret Machines Ulrich Schnauss Kyte. This will change daily depending on my listening mood.
  4. Too many to name just one Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon My Bloody Valentine-Loveless Lou Reed-Transformer Kraftwerk-Trans-Europe Express U2-The Joshua Tree This will probably change over time.
  5. I think we are overdosed with reforming bands. My god we've even had My Bloody Valentine and Take That and even Led Zeppelin briefly. Every '80's band under the sun is back out there including recently Ultravox and not long back Yazoo. I think that is enough now, time for the new breed. I don't mean the X-Factor crap but bands of originality and passionate music. There has not been an original music movement for years now, not since dance/rave. We've had nu-everything, nu-metal, nu-prog, nu-rave, nu-gaze, where are the original bands that can start a new sound, blow us away with their radical sound like punk, rave, rock n roll all did when they first burst on the scene. Or has everything been done? What do you think?
  6. The Album Leaf are an amazing band. Sort of like a bit more poppy/ambient Sigur Ros but very different as well. Worth checking out.
  7. Underrated Marillion The Leaves A-ha! Overrated Oasis Travis Sex Pistols
  8. Keane-Better Than This
  9. Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon Sex Pistols-Never Mind the Bollocks Public Image Ltd-Metal Box Kraftwerk-Trans Europe Express Silver Apples-Silver Apples U2-Joshua Tree Radiohead-OK Computer My Bloody Valentine-Loveless Gary Numan-Replicas The Cure-Faith I do not think any of Coldplay's albums define music at the moment. Maybe at some point in the future. I think they are influenced by the defining albums but not yet legends.
  10. I love this band. They should be huge.
  11. Verve-The Sonnet U2-Beautiful Day Killers-Mr Brightside Embrace-Nature's Law U2-Where the Streets Have No Name Keane-A Bad Dream Radiohead-Nude Sigur Ros-Festival Coldplay-The Scientist Keane-We Might As Well Be Strangers
  12. Downloading now. An amazing band, very underated. Both albums so far have been incredible.
  13. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/wenn/20080821/ten-coldplay-to-release-surprise-2009-al-c60bd6d.html Will this be true I wonder?
  14. After first albums I would have said Interpol by far, and the Interpol second album, but then came Editors new album. Blows Interpol off the face of the planet, nearly every song a classic. Interpol have stayed still but Editors have moved into another sphere with the big guns. I cannot wait to see them live.
  15. With the shift in sound from Coldplay on the new album, and now Keane (radically) and Travis. Even Sigur Ros have gone for a different sound and Athlete on their two non-album tracks from the new single . What of the forthcoming U2, Snow Patrol and Embrace? Is this the end of countless Coldplay imitations and the beginning of everyone finding their own groove. Will be interesting to hear and see. Keane have so far been very brave, very retro. Will Eno make another radical U2 album like Unforgettable Fire and Zooropa? The year of living dangerously.
  16. The new song takes some time to grow. Very '80's. I happen to love the '80's so that is a good thing. Reminds me of the Human League, early Simple Minds and other stuff of that era. A brave move by the band, it might just work. Where are my glitter-balls and disco outfits?
  17. Here are my nominations in alphabetical order; A-ha!- Analogue Aqualung-Cinderella Athlete-Twenty Four Hours Coldplay-Speed of Sound Doves-Snowden Editors-Escape the Nest Elbow-On a Day Like This Embrace-Gravity The Fray-Heaven Forbid Interpol-Pace is the Trick Keane-Atlantic Leaves-Shakma (Drunken Starlit Sky) Long-view-Will You Wait Here Muse-Starlight Radiohead-Nude Sigur Ros-Festival Snow Patrol-Run Take That-Rule The World Thirteen Senses-Into The Fire U2-Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own
  18. Embrace-Out of Nothing.
  19. Would rather have Ben's Sister:kiss:
  20. I am part of a prog music forum and the die hards are at last coming around to Muse, Radiohead etc being progressive bands. They have opened my eyes to similar sounding bands too. http://www.dprp.net is the link if you want to have a nose around. If you like Oceansize you will love Amplified, and if you like radiohead but a bit proggier, longer songs etc, try The Pineapple Thief. Arena's other albums are a bit heavier than the Visitor.
  21. Love the sort of true progressive music that Radiohead and Muse are part of. Other bands in this category include Amplified, Oceansize, Pure Reason Revolution, The Pineapple Thief, Elbow etc. This is not prog rock in the tradional sense but progressive music that is intelligent, takes an influence from the early bands but adds a modern twist. Some prog forums even put Coldplay in here. 42 is pure progressive rock.
  22. Have their retrospective. The Logical Song is one of my fav songs ever. Reminds me of younger days.
  23. U2 Coldplay Radiohead Athlete Keane Sigur Ros Could not decide on just five.
  24. Big three- Radiohead, Coldplay, Sigur Ros
