  1. It's a shame you have to leave because I consider you to be one of the best and most interesting posters here in the WoM. I always enjoyed reading your posts because of how in depth you'd go into analyzing songs or albums rather than the generic "I like the album". Best of luck to you :nice:
  2. here's a review Track 1: The song opens with talking and background music begins to come in. The build up works well with the talking. The song then breaks into a sort of punkish kind of sound with very raw vocals. It definitely seems like a good opening song for a mix so far. The song sounds pretty intense overall. I do feel the song though is kind of long. Track 2: Song starts with some muted guitar and drums. The song then breaks into a full sound. The vocals sound a little familular. So far I'm not sure if I fully like it so far, because it sort of reminds me a lot of rock music that I often hear on the radio. Track 3: The song starts with a swing kind of drum beat as well as a delayed sounding guitar. Then comes in a few vocals on the side of some kids singing. The song itself is not to bad. And so far I like this the most. Track 4: The vocals sounds really familular with this song. Not sure if I'm a huge fan of the song to be honest. I think the musicians are talented, but in terms of the songs I don't know if it's the kind of song I like. I do really like the song a lot when it gets very quiet. The arrangement is great. Track 5: The song starts off kind of minimalistic w/ vocals and just a single instrument. The vocals remind me a little bit of Death Cab for Cutie. The song gets good for me I guess during the bridge when the cello comes in. But overall not a huge fan. Track 6: This is the Interlude #1 of the mix. To be honest I really like this a lot. the sounds are really good and the classical guitar works really well too. This might be my favorite track so far. I really like it a lot Track 7: Starts with an acoustic guitar. The song itself is very folky which I really like. Vocally I'm not too sure about, but it still works well. Very nice song. The overall arrangement and feel of the song is really good. I really like this song a lot Track 8: This song starts with drums and a guitar. The vocals are very country and folky. The the singer keeps singing America over and over. I sort of imagine a guy with a cowboy hat and a flag shirt. I'm not a huge fan of this to be honest. I just in general find songs that talk about countries like this one to be annoying. However I do like the bit when the distorted guitar comes in the best. I really like the rhythm of the song, though the vocals do annoy me Track 9: The song starts off and reminds me of Sigur Ros with the organ. The song then comes in with some acoustic guitar. The song is very delicate and vocals come in. Honestly just from this bit so far initially I really love the song a lot so far. The later some drums come in and the make the song sound a bit more full with some electric guitars coming in putting in a few fills as well as some background vocals. This song really sounds great overall. It may be my favorite off the mix. It seems like a pretty emotional song, not only with the arrangement but the vocals and lyrics. Track 10: The song has a very country feel to it with the vocals and use of banjo. I picture an old man sitting on his porch singing this song. To me this seems like a good sounding song to end a mix with. I'm normally not much of a fan of country music, but I actually enjoy this song in it's simplicity. Track 11: The track opens with an acoustic guitar picking. The vocals come in and remind me of a combination of Jeff Buckley and the lead singer of Timber Timbre. The vocals are really impressive and I like the overall mix of it. I really like this song a lot as it progresses. There comes in some synth strings and the song gets to sound pretty emotional. The strings work really well and are quite moving even though they have a synth sound to it. This is another song off the mix that is one of my favorites. Track 12: This is the 2nd and last Interlude of the mix. The song starts off really great. I love the overall mix of the guitars, piano, drums and bass. It just sounds so full and has a spacey sound. To me I picture this song sort of being recorded in the 60's, though it sort of has a modern vintage feel to it. I really love this song a lot. It might be one of, if not my favorite song off the mix thus far. Track 13: The mix starts with electronic drums. I really like the overall mix, and the sound of this song. The vocals work extremely well in the mix. This is a really great song, honestly another song that I would add to my favorites on the mix. Is this also Bon Iver that makes a vocal appearance? This song honestly is really great overall. Can't wait to see who this is by. Track 14: The song opens with some drums that sound distant. Then the song really opens up and sounds very full with vocals that sound a little familuar but I can't put my finger on it. I do really like the overall feel of the song though. It's really great. Track 15: This song is heavy on drums which sound good. But from the vocals and overall feel of the song I'm not much a fan of it. Track 16: The song opens with some shakers and electronic piano. Then come in some female vocals that sound very distant and spacey. The vocals are pretty impressive. Then comes in some more electronic sounds, and synths that make the song more full. I really like this one. Track 17: After a long journey we've finally made it to the last song. The song opens sort of how the mix ended with there being talking. The song has a bit of piano and synths with a female vocalist. There's also background vocals that come in. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the song, but the ending vocals are good. Overall I enjoyed the mix. It gave me mixed feelings however. Some songs I really liked a lot, while other songs not too much. I did like how there was a change in genres throughout the mix. But to be honest certain bits (especially the first Part I wasn't a huge fan of since it was more country/folky. Also in terms of length I felt that it went on a bit too long. I do though really appreciate all the time you put into the mix because it looks like it took a long time. Also I really thought it was creative how the mix was split into 3 parts w/ 2 interludes. Nicely done! :D
  3. I appreciate Colin... he's a great bassist.
  4. oh I know... I'm just surprised you got yours before I did.
  5. :awesome: Mine still haven't yet :|
  6. Trying to figure out what band to do next, so I'm making this poll. I'll close the poll by Sunday night so that way we can get the next rounds of voting/nomination next week

  9. well first we have to decide what band we're doing next (Muse or The National), and then figure out who is doing the next one
  10. yeah... I saw that video a few days ago... they posted it in the atease news section I think

  14. also it's interesting to hear the song the way it is now. Because I saw Thom play it live acoustically when he did his Atoms for Peace tour. So if you guys want to listen/watch and see the difference... [ame= ] [/ame]
  15. same for me in that my first few listens I was so impressed and loved the song. But now it's nothing too special. also you should listen/watch that video... it sounds like Feral is being played at the beginning or at least tinkered around :awesome: ...looks like I might win the bet :P
  16. Reckoner is overrated ...yeah I said it! I may be obsessive, but I wouldn't do that
  17. It isn't until July, but I guess they decided to give a teaser of what to expect.
  18. I like the new song. I especially like the arpeggios that Ed is playing. The sound is really great and full, so I'm excited to hear the other songs! Also I don't know if you guys noticed but it sounded like Feral at the beginning.
  19. okay cool... yeah I mean I don't mean to generalize. I just sometimes don't understand how some people can be voted into office which is my main point. Also I don't want to seem Anti-American or whatever too... but I just feel if you're going to go around being really patriotic and pompous, at least make it seem like you know what you're talking about... if that makes any sense, or doesn't seem like i'm generalizing too much. :P
  20. I agree that I has to do with money. But at the same time I think it has to do with people being comfortable. I mean lets face it. If ideally all parties had equal spending for campaigns I still think that Republicans and Democrats would win, just because people probably wouldn't be so comfortable with supporting a party that has no record of leading. Though it's a conundrum, because those parties haven't had a chance to lead.
  21. yeah I see what you mean. I mean I'm not trying to put down any particular party. Personally I think that so many political figures just seem really uneducated, regardless of how they are affiliated. The problem I have with conservatives is that for the most part I don't agree with them on social issues, and also they tend to put a lot of emphasis on religion (I know it's a bit of generalization, but from my stand point that's what I see). Liberals on the other hand seem to be too idealistic with things and I don't agree with them in terms of spending. I do agree, and I apoligize if I've offended anyone by calling them stupid for supporting or voting for someone. I just feel that some of these peoples views, or what they say is so out there and ridiculous that I don't see how anyone can feel comfortable voting or supporting them. I see what you mean and I guess perhaps I was being too harsh. But at the same time I feel that in terms of education our country falls so far behind other ones. And I just think that it's a bit too much too see some people hail this country as being the best in the world when there are so many flaws (as with any other country). I guess although it may be another generalization, that since there's a lot of egotism associated with the country that many people can feel it's okay to slack off. Like (i know he's biased but) Bill Maher had a segment on his show a few years ago where he was giving out statistics of how many people in the country didn't know things like what the 3 branches of government were. It's just things like that that seem like such common sense that I don't see how people could not know. sorry for the long post btw.
  22. okay so it's 50-50. still that's a large amount of the country or county or state (depending on what kind of election it is) that is voting for an idiot. I mean don't you find it at least in the slightest bit unsettling that people as I mentioned can make it into high office and run a country? It's not possible any more since she's no longer speaker of the house, but the thought that Nancy Pelosi was in reach of being president (god forbid anything happened to both Obama and Biden) is a scary thought. I'm just saying, if I want someone to lead my district, or state, or country I'd rather have it be someone that looks intelligent and seems to know what they are doing.
