  17. quick translation: -distortion: it depends on what kind and quality of distortion you want, it would be good if you could get a pedal with distortion, or at least see if your amp has some sort of distortion included. -"that thing on the bridge": i guess you are talking about the whammy bar, that lets you move the bridge (not sure if the translated explanation is correct, but it is in spanish, so...). basicly, its not necessary (notice the italics). there are songs, and guitar players, that use the whammy bar quite a lot, but its not compulsory for every song, its just another effect you are adding to the song (it shortens the strings changing the sound). if your guitar is a cheap one, (a copy or an unknown brand - not fender, nor gibson, nor epiphone, nor ibanez, etc.) the whammy bar will likely get your guitar out of tune. - referring to an standard effect, its not easy to pick one... it depends on the bvand, the guitarist, and the song we are talking about. thus, james hetfield wont use the same effects on "nothing else matters" that jonny uses on "strawberry swing". i hope nothing got lost in translation, and i hope this is useful for you. BTW, merry christmas ;)
