  2. Apparently Serge was interviewed on XFM when they played the track about 8pm-ish last night. That's up in MM now too :D I'll report back tomorrow how the new tracks sound live cos did I mention... I'M OFF TO MANNNNNNCHESTER TO SEE DEM GUISE TONITE. :freak:
  3. It's in the Kasabian d/load thread in MM :nice: yeah, La Fee Verte is a title that's been knocking around for awhile, I think they mentioned that track towards the end of last summer. I reckon, Acid Turkish Bath will be the obligatory instrumental song. They always seem to have at least one. I think it sounds like an instrumental, idk why
  4. The album's called VELOCIRAPTOR :cheesy: (and is out 19th September) If anyone wants the interview and the mp3 of Switchblade Smiles, I'm uploading 'em right now ;)
  5. I think I can safely predict that we'll be driving back from Manchester tomorrow night singing that Velociraptor line. Argh, 24 hours, I can't wait, it's gunna be a riot :guitarist: Zane Lowe's on the radio in a minute. He's playing Switchblade Smile sooooon  [edit: he's just said he'll be playing itin half an hour, so you guys have got time to tune in, if you can]

  16. That awkward moment when one of your favourite bands writes a song about a dinosaur... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n0gr9CS0Ik]YouTube - ‪Kasabian Velociraptor‬‏[/ame] "Velociraptor, he's gunna find ya, he's gunna kill ya, he's gunna eat ya" :laugh3: :laugh3: :laugh3:
  17. Where is my review? :bigcry:
  18. haha yeah would have been awful. I can't stand Muse either  :P j/kidding
  19. Oh Lykki Li, I saw her at a festival once, ages ago. Well technically we sat at the back of the tent during her set, eating chips. But yeah, I wasn't overly impressed then either. And I already knew I didn't like Foals or Vaccines. I absolutely hated that Vaccines single, the post-break up sex one, it's bloody awful. I just don't like vocals like that. I find stuff like The Wombats are the same, I just can't stand that put-on, fake-punk, sort-of-shoutey singing, it gets on me nerves, sorry. I guess I am really picky aren't it? Sorry :embarrassed: I'm pleasantly surprised with the Strokes one tho, I've never really cared for them much, and had a go recently at listening to some of their older stuff. P'rhaps I should give their new album a listen, if it's any good? :\ And Friendly Fires too, I have their s/titled album and some of that is fairly good, they've got a new one out recently too, haven't they? I like that Foster The People track (totally thought that was gonna be MGMT  ) so I'll have to check them out too soon. Oh and the new Foxes album, yep, definatley shall be listening more to that ;) You did me a favour with the PJ Harvey one, I've read a few magazines lately raving about that new album of her's, about how amazing it is, and I kept thinking that I should check out... don't think I'll bother wasting my time with that now haha :P Anyway, thanks for the tape, it was entertaining and very interesting and I've gained a few things there to check out  I'm Paula btw, I'm sure I've seen you in the Kasabian thread a few times :)
  20. haha that's Miss Specific to you, sir :P And the original's not that old. 2003, I think. I didn't know there was any other covers of it tho. Are they any good?
  21. REVIEW TIME: Ok, there's no Track 14 and two Track 15's, so I've added the track length to each of the 15s to be able to tell them apart easily. 1 Love the drumming and the guitars in this. It sounds quite tribal and energetic. I don't care much for the lyrics, which are a bit rubbish, or the vocal. Musically though, I really like it, it's catchy. 2 Sounds old skool, early 80s, has a Jam feel to it, but more upbeat. I like this, but again, I'm not a big fan of vocal. Short and sweet tho. 3 Strong bassline. More guitars, not complaining cos musically this is the kind of stuff that impresses me. A better vocal this time, but still something slightly annoying about it, like there's some sort of effect on it. 4 Strong start, interesting guitar domination again. I like it, it's very groovy. Vocalist sounds kind of familar, like he's trying to sound like Bob Dylan at times. 5 Starts odd (not necessarily in a bad way), then gets nice and catchy. Sounds like MGMT or something of that ilk, in fact it sounds exactly like MGMT. Liking this one. 6 Ooh lots of snares. Bit of piano. Interesting. Is that a tuba in there as well? Nice vocal this time, very melodic. I like this one too. 7 Oooh foot steps at the beginning, thought it was going to be The Captain for a minute there :( Another foot-tapper, has a good, strong beat. It's an interesting one this, a bit fun. Strong vocal but not to sure about the lyrics on the chorus, sounds a bit odd. Dramatic end. 8 Calmer now, nice acoustic beginning. Fleet Foxes, yes? Maybe this is on their 2nd album, I only bought it on Monday and haven't had the chance to listen to it much just yet. Absolutely gorgeous strings, the usual sweeping harmonies that they do so well, the song builds beautifully. This is stunning. 9 Wow, complete contrast with the previous track. Dramatic beginning, thumping beat. Urgh, the vocal lets it down, his voice is pretty annoying, very distracting. Musically tho this has everything, really good subtle strings, strong beat, amazing guitar riff. With a decent singer, this'd be perfect. 10 This is nice and harmless. Has an 80s feel to it, very synth-ey and retro. 11 Nice bassline. Another nod to the 80s on this one. Has an XX feel to it. It's interesting but feels a but slow and apathetic, I keep waiting for it to do something special, but it doesn't really. Not bad tho. 12 More synths, but quite dancey and frenetic this time. Fairly catchy. A nice-sounding vocal this time. 13 Woah, choo-choo train haha. Very synth-ey, but with a slow beat and quite a calming, relaxing effect. Vocal sounds familar, sounds like a cross between David Bowie and Magne Furuholmen. Actually sounds a bit Damon Albarn at times too. Sounds spacey, this one, not bad. 15 (3 min 19) More synths, but again quite chilled out. Another nice one. The singer sounds a bit Wild Beasts at times, ie. kinda annoyingly high pitched, especially the long drawn out oooooh towards the end, had to take the headphones off there for a minute. But overall, it's ok, not bad. 15 (4 min 18) Jingly start. Good strong beat, interesting instrumentation. Love the guitars and the bassline. Weird lyrics about avaries. Don't like the vocal, he sounds like a Londoner. 16 Really don't like the vocal on this, I'm not a big fan of screechy girl singers anyway, but this is especially bad. Musically it's an ok track, kind of non-descript tho. 17 Oooh I've heard this before. Cults, no? Pretty sure I've heard this on t'radio. This is good, nice and interesting. She reminds me of Fever Ray, with that slightly distorted vocal. Good use of xylaphone. I like this, a good ending to the tape. In fact this is so good I'm gonna hop on Spotify and find some more from this band... --------------------- Well, overall it's been a good tape, a very pleasant listening experience. There's nothing there that I absolutely hated so that's always a good thing :) There was quite a few tracks where I liked it musically but didn't like or wasn't impressed by the vocals. I'm rather picky when it comes to vocalists, so I guess I'm a difficult customer on that score, sorry. I know the tape was only an hour long, but it felt much longer than that for some reason :\ When I was reviewing it last night, it all got a bit draining after a bit, so I've actually reviewed this in two sittings. Seventeen songs is a little too long for me. But that's just me, lots of people prefer the longer tapes. It's still been a good tape tho, an interesting upbeat mix of indie pop and alternative poppy stuff. Lots of guitars, which I like  I've enjoyed listening, and I'm interested to find out the bandnames. Good job. :)
  22. José González is Swedish ain't he??? And technically Heartbeats isn't his song, it's cover [/pedantic] :P
  23. haha good answer  Funnily enough, there's an interesting point in today's nme review - "it is immediate, tightly structured, laugh-out-loud funny and start-to-finish brilliant, but if you thought they were ever going to just roll over and write 'Whatever People Want Us To Be, That's What We Are', you were deeply, desperately mistaken. This a departure, not a return." And it's spot on; they've moved on, evolved and matured from their 'roots', which is exactly what a band should do imo. But tehn I'm probably biased cos while I thought 'Whatever People Say..' had some good points, I thought it was mostly just a lot of noise and indie-kid angst. This one is way more grown-up which is probably why I like it.
  24. Oh don't get me started on the hair :laugh3: Serge's barnet looks fooking terrible :blank: in fact it looks so bad it's making Tom's hair look more acceptable by the minute, so pr'aps I shouldn't complain too much ;)
  25. I got nme this morning on the way to work, then took an unprofessionally long, early break so I could read it  It makes for exciting reading I have to say. The three songs that get reviewed (Switchblade Smile, Velociraptor, Rewired) are described as sounding completely mad & insane. Switchblade Smile: "rumbling, evolving black clooud of techno intensity" "complex .... full of batshit vim on an epic scale" "It's heavy as fuck" "it's got a Beastie Boys edge to it, but it's pure Kasabian really. It's the older brother of Vlad" Velociraptor: a mix of Nirvana and the Prodigy "probably the first single off the album" "bubblegum hooligan, noisy, hooky, addictively nutty" "more violent than Club Foot" Rewired: "ambitious with a sublime melody" Serge says: "it's a big tune... it lures you in ... it's sleazy" Tom says: "it's sexy rock.. with some balls, something sexy and a bit wild" It's a funny article, Tom's banging on about sausages and Serge is gabbing on about being possessed by spirits during the songwriting  Bonkers, the pair of them. off tumblr :D There's a great little vid on the nme website too, if you aven't already seen it
