I would recommend NOT taking your DSLR! There's a high chance that they'll confiscate it, I don't know of any venues that allow those. :(

I use a Canon Powershot SD790 for concerts, and it works pretty well as long as you have it on the night setting without flash. It has a 12x zoom, which is helpful if you're far away from the band. Sorry to say, but at most indoor shows that have a section 100, a section 200, and a section 300; the butterflies usually don't go any farther than the early 200's. I'm sure you'll be able to find some floating around up where you are, though, especially because a lot of people accidentally drop them on the way up to the doors of the arena.
