Birthdays, unbirthdays, holidays, graduations --everyday, somewhere, somebody is celebrating something. :) This thread is for sharing information about festivals, events, and good things that happen. As this thread gets started, today is "May Day" and Coldplay has announced that it is giving away a live record FREE! Thank you, Coldplay! :dance: Here is some additional, general information about things that happen on May 1st: In addition to being "International Workers' Day" which celebrates the efforts of workers the world over, and of the labour movement, today is also a day -- starting on the night of April 30 going on through May 1st -- traditionally devoted to celebrating the commencement of springtime in the form of Beltane and/or in other places, Walpurgis Night! In Roman Catholic tradition, today is the "kick off" for "Mary's month" --an express celebration of the Virgin Mary, and it used to be traditional to secretly leave little baskets with sweets and flowers on neighbor's doorsteps. Many modern celebrations still include the tradition of the the May Pole dance, May Day punchbowl, and wear lily of the valley. I suspect that the Maydayrun is about done in London? Probably most eccentrically famous however, is the UK tradition of Morris Dancing! In the US I guess the most unusual celebration of May Day event would probably be the "In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre" parade/festival? i apologize in advance if there is already a forum for this someplace else! *^_^* ...first there was the “boy-band-on-the-make-good-and-besides-it’s-all-we’ve-got-jeans-t-shirt-trainers” look (or actually, in chris’ case --all-terrain hiking boots?), ...then there was the 80’s retro-future, “if-we-all-wear-black-uniform-like-costumes-maybe-security-will-quit-carding-jonny-when-he-isn’t-wearing-his-backstage-pass” look, ...now there has been the “it’s-like-we-are-wearing-uniforms-anyway-so-lets-make-’em-really-look-that-way” look... so what’s next? personally, i’m thinkin’ naked. it would be a bold move, but i think the fans would be okay with it. ;) uhhhmmm... on second thought, things are kinda crazy as it is at the concerts! a look i liked them in a lot, was when they dressed up as the early 20th century gents that one christmas? maybe they could find inspiration for new costumes there... there is something to be said for the “rock me amadeus” 18th century look too, but somehow i think will would draw the line at voluminous lacy sleeves (might get in the way of drumming)... oh! astronauts! cowboys! cavemen! zombies! fav anime characters! --although one has to be careful, here... it could be a slippery slope toward the “village people” look, and while i love “the village people,” that look has definitely been done... ^_^/

oooohhh, no... i know it will have to happen sometime (boyhood rite of passage and all), but moses has such lovely curls! he looks like a medieval knight, or avenging archangel in toddler size! my cousin had such "lovely curls" too --my aunt cried for days after the first haircut... :cry:

not that coldplay doesn't deserve the time off, they certainly do! i just got into such a daily habit, that now i'm suffering withdrawals from fresh-from-the-concert fan video coverage! "...whispers 'hello i miss you quite terribly'..." ;)
