Frankly I'm glad that's the case with Aeterna. They don't need every upbeat song to be a hit. Sometimes a fun song can just be a fun song without the need to commercialize it.

Now that it's been out for five days or so, I'm looking back at what I like and don't like: Like/Love: Jupiter, Moon Music (it's really grown on me), The Karate Kid, Man in the Moon, iAAM, All My Love, Aeterna. Dislike: Good Feelings is fine, but it doesn't do anything for me. Same with One World for the most part. We Pray feels very out of place, too, and I'm baffled that it's featured so early in the album. It should've been a standalone single. I think this will be an album that grows on fans over time. It's considerably better than anything I was expecting.

Jupiter is easily my favorite track so far. I was pretty critical of the simple lyrics at first but I've really come around to them. It's such a good song.

I realized why I appreciate The Karate Kid so much... and it's all about lyrics. I'm still very happy with Moon Music, but I don't think anyone will disagree the lyrics are mostly pretty bad. The Karate Kid is reminiscent of his younger days when he could (and clearly still can!) write ballads that are relatively ambiguous in meaning. It's sweet, it's simple, and it carries depth. He's still got it, I just wish he'd deploy this skill more.

Huh, youโre right. Good catch.

Yeah, I really donโt get it. Everyoneโs entitled to their own opinion, I just canโt wrap my head around thinking this album is somehow worse than MOTS. They are two very different projects.

Yeah I agree with this for the most part. I actually really enjoy Man on the Moon though, much more than FLIFIL. I wish we got Shine On instead of the live versions, which I donโt care much about. Or the We Pray version.

Donโt get me wrong, Iโm glad we get new material, but this new trend is one of my least favorite in the industry. Stillโฆ wow. Why did they leave The Karate Kid off???

Track 08 - AETERNA | Moon Music
I gotta say, I have no idea how or why this song works well, but it does. I really had little expectations with this song going into it. Itโs a very fun song that I think will age well. Great song.

Track 04 - JUPiTER | Moon Music
What Iโm saying is the lyrics are a bit basic, the message is good.

Track 04 - JUPiTER | Moon Music
My favorite track so far. Lyrically, yeah it's bad, but the composition lets me overlook it a little. I'm really surprised how nice it is. The strings are well done and the outro is a nice addition.

Track 09 - ALL MY LOVE | Moon Music
Probably the most complete track on this album. I love it. My only gripe is, of course, with Max's production style. Jonny's old country guitar needed to be way more prevalent. I didn't even realize that's what he was going for until it was halfway done. But man, they still have it. Really solid track with some neat late-era Beatles inspiration.

This is an upgrade from Music of the Spheres in virtually every wayโand please believe me when I say I was dreading the follow-up to MOTS. I had little to look forward to and had no problem mentioning that here or elsewhere. I didn't like that Max was returning, I didn't like the direction the album was heading. I was expecting the worst. Yet Iโm shocked at how well put together this album is. I didnโt expect this at all. Itโs cohesive, itโs weirdly "experimental" (for Coldplay), and it has the one thing MOTS did not: depth. Again, I didnโt expect this at all. The production is a noticeable and clear improvement from start to finish. Sounds like nothing like MOTS. It's honestly quite jarring if you go and listen to that album right after One World. Itโs pointless to rank it after one listen, but my favorites so far are Jupiter, iAAM (it really was that good!), All My Love, Moon Music. Love the old country solo in All My Love, nice surprise. I still have some issues with it, but as a whole, to say I'm pleasantly surprised is a big understatement. Wow.

Yeah, back in the day I remember many people saying Champion of the World sounded like AROBTTH. I think this fanbase tries way too hard to compare one album or song to another. It doesn't need to be that way. I'm also totally fine if they take an extended break. I'd rather them make a legitimately great album again without a larger-than-life tour (which I've never cared much about). Most good bands will take a break from recording at one point or another, and it's time Coldplay does the same.

On the Spotify app, go to 'Watch new Clips' on the main Coldplay artist page. This is the first clip I've ever heard of Jupiter and wow, this is really nice. Do we know if the track is guitar driven?

Yep. I really wish they'd move on from him. His production is equally glossy and muddled which doesn't work for a band. Hell, even songs on MOTS (like Humankind) could have been significantly better with a different producer. From what I've heard, the production seems to be generally better this time around, and that's good. Here's hoping they return to the Dream Team for their future albums.

The NEW 2024 Leaks Thread
Am I wrong for thinking the Idiot leak sounds recent? I wonder what it could be used for if so. It's very good.

First time posting since 2021! Nice to be back. This song has a very nice, subdued style to it that I really appreciate. It reminds me a lot of my immediate reaction to Orphans back in 2019. I don't really get the perception this is meant to be a major hit; rather, a somewhat radio-friendly hit that I'm sure will have deeper meaning on the album itself. It's also reminiscent of Mylo Xyloto and Ghost Stories. That outro is something I haven't heard Coldplay do in ages; it's a nice touch. Based on the few clips of soundchecks I've heard lately, and how surprised I am hearing this song, I think Moon Music will be a solid album that feels more 'true' to the band.

Track 11 - Infinity Sign (stylised as โพ) | Music of the Spheres
It really is! The instrumentation near the end is very eloquent and is reminiscent of Chinese Sleep Chant. Huge fan of this track.

Track 08 - Biutyful | Music of the Spheres
I actually love this song. A lot. Itโs the song Iโve played most (outside the singles that releases ahead of time). The alien voice works surprisingly well, and Chrisโ vocals mesh very well in ways that it shouldnโt. The chorus, like the song, is simplistic. Itโs unique but it doesnโt try too hard. Really, really fun song that hinges between pop and some sort of avante garde mix.

Here's my review (co-posted to r/Coldplay!) 'm nearly done with Coloratura which I've listened to plenty of times, so here's my initial review. It's shortโlike curiously short. I'm surprised at how, I guess, incomplete it feels even though it's definitely an experience from beginning to end. That being said, I enjoyed it more than I anticipated earlier this year when we got news about BTS, etc. The only dud for me so far is Let Somebody Go; Pride of the People will have to grow on me too. But, the standout tracks are really, really good. MOTS is an excellent instrumental opener, Humankind blew me away, Biutyful somehow works with its high-pitched tuning, and Infinity Sign is a killer Jon Hopkins track that really sets the mood for what I wanted from the rest of the album. Oh, the production is legitimately great. Max Martin really, really impressed me with that. I expected a muddled mess a la Ghost Stories/AHFOD, but I'm glad to be wrong. I'm not going to try to rate or rank it because it's too early. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. It feels much more put together than AHFOD (or the entire era) ever did, so I personally feel it isn't fair comparing those two albums.

Really pleasantly surprised at all of this. I like Higher Power, but was entirely unsure what to expect for the full album. The teaser made me very excited for what's to come; each track sounds well-produced from the snippets we've heard. It offers some wide-ranging variety in a way that doesn't come off as convoluted or whatever. Bring on October 15!
