A rush of Blood to the Head cover, with soloing
well actually the beginning was supposed to mimmick the intro in the 2005 live :-( I played the exacted same notes in the beginning that Johnny did. I guess... it just doesn't sound quite the same on an acoustic :-(

The Scientist(played hendrix style)
Nicely done ! I didn't get much of the intro though .. i couldn't understand what you were saying in that first minute ( sorry :( ) I got some coldplay covers on my youtube too. Check 'em out when you have the time. http://www.youtube.com/user/vincymon

This Is Quite Clearly Coldplay's Decade
Biggest band of the decade ... I would have to say Coldplay. Some might disagree about technical skills ... but the fact is ....Coldplay rose very quickly, and everybody knows of them. To go from having the reputation "only [] listen to coldplay" to having every little high school band in my state trying to play Viva La Vida .... I would say coldplay is pretty much on top. MUSE, are great ... but hey they haven't yet got the market like how coldplay has.

Have you ever gotten into a fight about Coldplay? Verbal or Physical
This story was classic. In the last FiFa world cup Trinidad had a team. So off course EVERYONE in the Caribbean was watching. One day they cancelled school for the team, and we all went to this friends house to watch the game. Just before the game we got into an argument about who has more coldplay songs/ knew about the band first/ can play more of their songs.

Who is the better Singer?
I would have to disagree. Regardless of gender, the first verse of YES, is very difficult to sing. Although Chris Martin sings it comfortably on the record, I have yet to hear him sing that verse live without going flat at times. Particularly the lines "sin stay gone" and "i'm just so tired of this loneliness." From what i've heard. I'd say Martin has the wider range, but I would still say Matt it better because he goes flat less often, and reaches a higher falsetto. Have you ever watched the Wembley performance of Knights of Cydonia , Matt reaches an impossibly high note during the intro.

Who is the better Singer?
Although I am a bigger fan of Coldplay; I would have to go with Matthew from Muse. After recording dozens of Coldplay songs on youtube, I tried doing [butterflies and Hurricanes] (muse) ... and that was tough. When I try singing coldplay I've never felt like I was losing my voice. Singing like Matthew does, is a real exercise !

Do you ever feel like other musicians sound just like Coldplay lately ?
I agree Its ok to say you're inspired by someone ... if that musician is of age and not still mainstream. But to make music like Coldplay, while they are still relavant and kicking ... is just annoying. Its like if a girl started singing just like Beyonce now and says she's inspired by Beyonce. Its like what Pink said, immitation is not flattery, its just annoying.

The Scientist and Glass of Water covers
Ok. Well, learnt basic guitar at seven. But my guitar got messed. I started again 3 years ago. You are right princesanji, my understanding of the music theory often surpasses my physical aptness. I try to correct that.

Well, I never bothered buy an album of the Fray. I once thought of buying "One Republic" but .. they haven't really got me yet. What about safety suit. I gotta give it to them, "STAY" is more depressing than anything Coldplay ever did. Something about a girl tying her boyfriend to a chair and beating him .. just doesn't appeal to me. Its like, driving with STAY blasting from my speakers, is the equivalent of an extended kick in the nuts.

Do you ever feel like other musicians sound just like Coldplay lately ?
yep. Although I only bother with "singles from these other bands" The only somewhat-similat band whom i actually seriously dig is the killers.' The Killers have got punch ! to their music. Bands like Keane and the Fray, are competent .. but they lack the punch of Coldplay; you know, that quality that makes you not skip half the tracks on the album.

I supposed ... but it does make the music industry feel saturated at times.. I am sure some of you have had the experience, you put on VH1 before you go to work and you feel like you are hearing a dozen different versions of Coldplay for 2 hours

Well as for the Fray ... they just sound ordinary. Non- coldplay fans often complain that the band is boring, well if Coldplay is boring, The Fray is 10 times worse !

Yep. Classical to the point that the stringboard is now lifting off the body. :(

Why doesn't coldplay just hire extra musicians for their live concert instead of using a back track
yeah. Muse is just 3 people, but in the Big butterflies and hurricanes performance ( the one where the singer is wearing a red suit, and all the instruments are shiny ) there was an extra guy playing the synth. Nothing wrong with a stage hand.

Do you ever feel like other musicians sound just like Coldplay lately ?
Let's start with what I think is the most recent and obvious. I came across this song of David cook on vh1 and couldn't help but notice the striking resemblance with the music video for "the scientist." [ame= ] [/ame] Now I am not saying , that coldplay has a copyright on backward shooting. But having David cook, walk backward through a forest, and jump back clumsily over a log, and enter a car, all at the exact same camera angles as used in "the scientist" ... is a HUGE coincidence. Now we've had the fray for a few years. But what about "All American Rejects" and "pussycat dolls" all of a sudden these two preppy bands have sad singing-on-the-beach type music videos. And besides that, every "you out to know" artist, seems to be going along the same path. Everyone is making melancholy Coldplay type music. Its not Coldplay that sold out, it is everybody else trying to capitalize on Coldplay's style; and its getting annoying.

yea. but that's that eh. let us take for example when they played "glass of water" for the first time. There was an extra guitarist called Adam. It didn't spoil the performance on bit. Some people here are exaggerating my claim. It would take a hundred musicians for them to perform some of those songs. The dulcimer, needs just one man behind it. And for those talking about the risk of screwing up. Well hey, its a live concert ain't it. How many of you would go to watch the spiderman movie if it was presented exactly like the 90's cartoon ? My point is the idea of live performance means, bigger and better.

Life In Technicolor/Violet Hill Guitar Tuning
oh so that's how violet hill is played. Yeah, like the others mentioned, both these songs can be played quite normally in standard tuning.

Do you think YES should have its own music video ?
I only just joined this site yesterday, by the way.

Who can actually sing the first verse of YES ?
Actually, I can sing all of fix you, the hardest part , and shiver. Heck even Amsterdam is loads easier that YES. I'll try your advice, see if it works.
-
Do you play an instrument?
I can play guitar. But what about singing. Is vocals an instrument ? I can immitate the voice of Chris Martin and Anthony Keidis (red hot chili peppers) quite well.
-
What do you think?
This is a great song, its got a good rhythm , lends itself to sing - along , nice highlights and some great lyrics too. Next to LIT ii , Glass of Water is the best song of the E.P. It could even be a single.

Who can actually sing the first verse of YES ?
Usually I'm good at singing Coldplay. When I first heard YES, I took it as a challenge. A challenge I have thus far lost though.. The first verse really knocks the wind out of me. Lines like "sin stay gone" and "i'm just so tired of this loneliness (first chorus) " are just beyond me. It's frustrating, cuz this really is my favourite song on the album. I can sing the song perfectly from the second verse onward into the sleep chant, though. But that first verse and chorus.. alas
