  1. ^ Do we know for sure that there WILL be a video for A Sky Full of Stars?
  2. Magic and A Sky Full of Stars are played now on most Danish radio stations plus Magic is played a lot now on the music TV channels MTV, Denmark, Voice and 7. It's a lovely video. I am in doubt: Will there be now video for A Sky Full of Stars?
  3. I have seen reviews of Ghost Stories in 6 Danish newspapers: 1 tabloid paper (BT): 2 stars (out of 6) 2 newspapers (MetroXpress Denmark + Politiken): 3 stars (out of 6) 3 newspapers (Berlingske Tidende, Ekstra-Bladet and Jyllands-Posten): 4 stars (out of 6) So all in all not so bad.
  4. I went to the library to read newspapers. In one of them (Berlingske Tidende) over two pages was a favourable review of Coldplay's Ghost Stories - 4 stars (out of 6 possible). It was called Coldplay's best album. Lots of Coldplay on various Danish radio stations - they have played both Viva la Vida (twice), Clocks (twice) as well as A Sky Full of Stars and Magic several times. And a cultural channel has rebroadcast Viva la Vida special (in series of various modern classics) Thursday - and again this morning. :)
  5. http://www.welt.de/kultur/pop/article127964565/Als-wuerden-Wale-um-Gwyneth-weinen.html 13.05.14 / Coldplay As (if) whales would cry for Gwyneth The British band Coldplay releases their sixth album "Ghost Stories". It is about pain in connection with separation, comfort/consolation, and tattoos. It also sounds like that: A warm sensual bath in nine new songs. By Frédéric Schwilden (translated by Nancy Boysen) Chris Martin is a genius/prodigy. Because his very emotional lyrics has not made it to the important libraries in the world so far, then Coldplay’s lyricist and singer has come up with something very exciting. He has simply made sure that the lyrics of the nine songs off the new album "Ghost Stories" were put/let into books in libraries. The lyrics of "Another's Arms" was found in the Singapore National Library. "Magic" in turn was deposited in the Vasconcelos Library in Mexico City. By his marketing team that had left the handwritten lines in books with ghost stories. And of course the fans should look for the lyrics. And, as in Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", together with the lyrics there was a golden ticket inviting the finder and a companion to London to attend a Coldplay concert in the Royal Albert Hall. Whether the finder wants to or not, he/she now has to go to London and listen to Coldplay for more than one hour. How we would like to feel "Ghost Stories" is Coldplay’s sixth album. Coldplay is the band to rely on if you are a film maker looking for a song for some credits, for some scene, in which some sad person is looking out of the window. Coldplay was also used by the Sopranos. And the British band even received a Hollywood Film Award for their song "Atlas" written particularly for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Coldplay continue to make ambient music for the big and small moments in the life of people placing their feelings/emotions above everything, and who think that they are so important that they believe that Wong Kar-Wai would make a movie about their history with the title "My Blueberry Nights 2.0". Chris Martin again thinks that he is so important that he believes that the end of his relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow should be the theme of an entire album. "Ghost Stories" is a concept album about a man who processes the dramatic and sudden end of his relationship. Love is a Bob Dylan tattoo Therefore "Ghost Stories" begins with an impressively ethereal guitar played by Johnny Buckland and Chris Martin’s sleepy breathy lines: "I think of you/ I haven't slept/ I think I do, but/ I don't forget/ my body moves/ goes where I will/ but though I try my heart stays still." The singer seems to have been very sad, and even though he has tried all sorts of distractions, his heart still hangs on his Gwyn. "You're always in my head", Chris sings. After ten year’s marriage Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow are now separated. The magazine "Gala" also knows why. They are "just too different," the magazine reported citing an "insider from the circle of acquaintances”. So romantic, so timeless classic "Ghost Stories" might sound, by name, just by European tales of white women, the wild hunt, of Will-o'-the dissuade who dissuades the drunken wanderer at night from the road, so modern is "Ghost Stories" after all. The greatest proof of love of modernity is finally the tattoo. "Got a tattoo that said 2gether thru life," it says in the song "Ink". And you imagine this couple, he in his late thirties, she in her early forties, and on their arms they have had this line tattooed / inked because of a Bob Dylan album entitled "Together Through Life". In the sky is fun fair (carnival) With "Magic" Coldplay has really written another grandiose single. The polyphonic, moving bass riff is minimalistic, just tender. In the background cool drums. "Magic" is actually no Coldplay song. No bombast, no tinsel, just a song. What a song! For "A Sky Full of Stars" Martin sits down at the piano again. “You're a sky full of stars”, he sings, then followed by the Euro Dance synthesizer that sounds like a thunderstorm of steel. If this song had participated at the Euro Vision Song Contest, then it would have got a high ranking. But upon listening to it, you wonder if Coldplay really wanted to write the dodgems anthem for the opening of the carnival/funfair season. You cannot imagine that Martin tinkers with Buckland in the rehearsal room, and then Buckland says, as he has just found this Eurosound: "So, Ladies and Gentlemen, here we go. With 120 km/h we catapult you to the south. Up(wards) it goes. The chips in the scooter, und off goes the ride!" It must have been different. But probably it was like this. Lyrics like "Twilight" dialogues "Ghost Stories" is not scary, it is just incredibly tiring. Lyrics like Twilight dialogues – "In the darkness before the dawn" – complement each other with this Coldplay sound that always sounds as if the band would write the soundtrack for the new, so far unreleased and for a long time deemed-as-lost Jacques Cousteau film "Humpback Whales - Gentle giants of the Sea". Always so hard floating. Now and then Martin’s head voice, like the song of the diving mammal he echoes bubbling through the Mariana Trench. Some say that the origin of our world lies in the singing of the whales, you can hear the Fibonacci sequence and even the number Pi out there, that is the natural variables that let us be humans. But finally whale song is just whale song. And no matter how long you listen to Chris Martin sing, it does not make you understand the world. Coldplay: "Ghost Stories" (Parlophone) released on 16.05 (in Germany).
  6. A positive review of Ghost Stories from the website of another Danish newspaper (4 out of 6 stars) http://ekstrabladet.dk/musik/intlalbum/article2283391.ece Coldplay: Heartfelt pain (Pain with heart) Unlike Chris Martin’s marriage the songs are strong (solid) on pleasant break-up album By: Thomas Treo (translated by Nancy Boysen) The reviewer: 4 out of 6 stars; 37 readers: 5½ out of 6 stars It is very difficult to find anything that rhymes with Gwyneth, but that also seems to be the only reason why Chris Martin does not mention his ex-wife directly on Coldplay’s new album ’Ghost Stories’. From the frontman sings ’I think of you, I haven’t slept’ as the first line of the first song on the album (the opener) ’Always In My Head’, Paltrow barely leaves Martin’s romantic verses (lines of poetry). Even on a break-up album, however, eternally kind Coldplay manage to appear likeable, and with’Ghost Stories’ the Englishmen present another inviting album that gently manages to push a bit humanity / human decency into the cynicism of the pop world. Musically, the quartet’s mission is also personal, because - unlike the relatively electronic and puffed-up predecessor, ’Mylo Xyloto’ - Ghost Stories’ is restrained/soft, half-acoustic and minimalistic. A soothing flow Small beautiful songs such as’Magic’, ’Ink’ and ’True Love’ are quietly burning through, even though they are actually only glowing, whereas sparkling’Midnight’ is a beautiful pastiche of Bon Iver’s sound universe. In the long run, Martin’s very feminine love sickness is almost too good to be true, and you are digging in vain after depth - such as on Bob Dylan’s divorce classic ’Blood on the Tracks’ - beneath the nice surface. Martin’s life blood is without stains, but it leaves behind charming pop songs, and the melancholy flows soothingly until the last song but one, ’A Sky Full of Stars’. Suddenly the singer has Red Bull in his veins in an ill-timed co-operation with the Swedish house-DJ Avicii who activates an uplifting beat and spoils the mood / atmosphere. Now, when the atmosphere generated by the other songs was otherwise so gloomy and dark.
  7. Danish review of Ghost Stories (published on newspaper BT's website yesterday - a friend told me about this): After Gwyneth Paltrow divorce: Coldplay’s whine album By Henning Høeg (HOEG) Tuesday, 13 May 2014, 16:23 / translated by Nancy Boysen Coldplay’s new album, 'Ghost Stories', is one of the most boring divorce albums I have ever listened to. It is Chris Martin in whimpering fetal position. When colleagues such as Ulf Lundell, Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and our own Michael Falch all have made an album with the same theme, then the songs have at least been a mix of all the wild and violent emotions that come with that kind of life change. Unfortunately, it sounds as if Coldplay’s lead singer and lyricist who is getting a divorce from the Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow has written all lyrics while he was still on his knees howling at the moon. Thus already identical tunes like 'True Love' and 'Ink' are burdened (haunted) by deeply unoriginal lyrics like 'I lost you, you let me go, but one last time, tell me you love me, and if you do not lie .. '. and my personal anti-favourite, 'All I know is I'm lost, whenever you go'. Frankly Mister Martin! What happened to 'Viva la Vida'. And one thing is the lyrics.. but also the music?! Brian Eno has not produced this album. But despite the absence of the ambient wizard, most of the album is at a drawling, meditative pace where the sound (soundscape) is dominated by mellow keys and a discrete acoustic guitar. And 'Ghost Stories' sounds more than anything else like a solo album from a left lead singer who probably should have taken a break / pause of reflection before pouring all his tears down into these nine monotonous templates. [email protected], Coldplay, 'Ghost Stories', two out of six stars
  8. Magic is quite popular now on Danish radio stations - also heard it a few times on North-German radio station. :) And 2 days ago I heard A Sky Full of Stars played on Danish radio station the Voice (only heard it played once).
  9. A belated THANK YOU, SPARKY for making Coldplaying.com and its magic continue. :vuvuzela: :vuvuzela:
  10. ^You are welcome. If there are reviews to be translated from Baden Baden then send me a PM with the links. I am leaving very soon so I will not be able to do something before tomorrow, but there should not be new activities before 5 May (or the SNL show in a few days) so hopefully OKAY.
  11. To bazza, Sparky and ihaveabono: When MX was released it went to number one in 43 countries. In Denmark it only went to number 2 (because it was released in the same week as Denmark's most popular artist whose album was number one for weeks and 2011's top-selling album). After Coldplay's concert in Copenhagen on 28.8.12 MX returned to the charts and went to number 2 for one week (so 2 weeks at number 2 in Denmark when peaking). But it is correct - the album soon dropped in the charts and only had one major hit in Paradise. Paradise was one of the most played videos on VH1 Denmark in 2012 (and played a lot at the end of 2011 competing with Christmas Lights in December). I think that Ghost Stories will be huge in the countries where the band had these intimate concerts. But I fear that it might be a failure in Denmark. Why? Because in Denmark not much has been written about the upcoming album or its release date. So I fear for its success here. Only Magic has been played on the radio and I have only seen it once on the TV (MTV Denmark) - not in VH1 Denmark. I looked at the Danish chart and it said that Magic peaked at no. 5. Midnight and Atlas were not played / the videos not shown at all. So risk of failure / flop in Denmark. And I can tell you that Chris' and Gwyn's separation was hardly mentioned in Danish media (only in a few and then only in max. 5 lines). I also checked Swedish and Norwegian text-TV in these days (nothing - referring to SVT Text and NRK News). So maybe failure in Denmark - I hope that I am proven wrong. Time will show.
  12. I got so carried away that I forgot to tell you what my passion is: I like MUSIC (Abba, Beatles, Coldplay, U2 and more) - working in my friend's garden, helping other people, translations, mother nature. :)
  13. ^And you are good at that too. Making those lovely shirts (wouldn't be surprised if Chris / the crew ordered some). And twisting those wires for the xylobands for the gig in Cologne (made me think of your former username - twisted logic) - writing very detailed and entertaining reviews. I am full of admiration - I am sure that I am not alone here. You are such a creative and entertaining coldplayer. :)
  14. http://www.berliner-zeitung.de/kultu...,26955238.html Concert in Cologne’s E-Werk - Coldplay glitter at club gig By Thorsten Keller – translated by Nancy Boysen Coldplay played an exclusive concert at Cologne’s E-Werk. Photo: Max Grönert Köln – The British world band Coldplay travelled to an intimate concert at Cologne’s E-Werk in order to present/introduce the upcoming album „Ghost Stories“. Who could get hold of a ticket, saw superstars in good moods / high spirits and witnessed a world premiere. Who wanted to listen to the songs off Coldplay-s upcoming album live for the first time, had to get up early (in the night) on 12 March. The band’s performance at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas could be heard and watched worldwide as an internet stream, but because of the time difference in Europe at 4 o’clock in the morning. The Coldplay show at Cologne’s E-Werk started at a clearly more comfortable time, 21.03 o’clock, on Friday 25 April and began – as was the case in Austin – with the new song „Always in my Head“. It was the first of six concerts on three continents in the hot phase of CD promotion – „Ghost Stories“ will be released on 16 May. As was the case by their E-Werk concert in November 2011, 1Live broadcast the Coldplay show on the radio – a consolation for everybody who had failed to get one of the only 2,000 tickets available. But the broadcast did not cover the entire concert. As the radio duty was fulfilled a little before 10 o’clock, singer Chris Martin told the fans: „Now we are just us“. Then the band played three more songs, two hits from 2002 („God Put a Smile Upon Your Face“ and „The Scientist“) and then even a genuine world premiere. At „A Sky Full of Stars“ the audience realized the meaning of the sweet stage deco, a sky full of stars. Then it is over at around 22.15, the Coldplay classic „Yellow“ is not played this evening. As sad memory of Coldplay’s debut album, the band plays the new song „Oceans“ (another world premiere in Cologne) that Chris Martin starts playing alone with acoustic guitar and that reminds greatly of the sound esthetics of „Parachutes“. That was before Coldplay learned to play it big like U2. And when Chris Martin still did not know Gwyneth Paltrow. Coldplay setlist 1. Always in my Head (new song) 2. Charlie Brown 3. Paradise 4. Magic (new song) 5. Clocks 6. Midnight (new song) 7. Another's Arms (new song) 8. Viva la Vida 9. Fix You 10. Oceans (new song) 11. Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall Encore 12. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face 13. The Scientist 14. A Sky Full of Stars (new song) And then 2 newspaper had a mentioning of the concert at Cologne's E-Werk followed by 8 pictures with text below the pictures with well-known facts i.a. that the audience was enthusiastic singing along / clapping their hands to the mixture of Coldplay's greatest hits and 6 new songs - that there was an Encore after the radio broadcast ended. I chose to post the above here as it might otherwise not be read.

  17. Thank you for all your reviews and pictures. Thalia's review made me laugh several times: It was so detailed so that I almost felt like being at the concert myself. And also thank you for the links to the streaming / radio transmissions so that I and other coldplayers could hear most of the concert as well. I will take a look at the German reviews (links posted in post 1468 on page 98). It turns out that pictures and text of Muenstersche Zeitung are identical with pictures and text in emsdettener Volkszeitung - so I start with this. I do not have so much time for the time being as it is beautiful summer weather in Copenhagen, and I am helping a friend of mine removing weeds from her garden so I have not been / am not much home this week-end. I have heard today's concert via a link (the last 8 minutes from Spain and then all of it from the Netherlands at 21 cet). Many of the new songs have grown on me - I liked Magic right away. I did not like Midnight at all, but now I like it very much. I also like the other new songs. I will be back with some edited reviews (general press coverage of the concert later (maybe tonight, maybe Sunday evening or Monday).
