  1. Bloemfontein, South Africa <3
  2. Sixty thousand six hundred and eighty one.
  3. Zurich, Switzerland (sorry, probably been done before)
  4. hahahaha Maybe they'll do an album title with a hashtag in front of it like Robin #THICKE I think it would be really cool if the title was in Mandarin Chinese, and written out in Mandarin Characters. Then again I'm pretty sure they will avoid being obscure after 'Mylo Xyloto'...
  5. Barney (How I Met Your Mother)
  6. Good question! Personally don't like lyrics that are too cryptic or trying to be too poetic, or lyrics that are too simple. Coldplay's lyrics have gone back and forth between the two I think, though they're generally pretty good. My personal favourite would have to be The Killers- I just love singing along to pretty much any of their albums!
  7. Coldplay (always 1st :D) The Strokes Florence + The Machine Arcade Fire The Black Keys (My list has a particular order)
  8. [ame= ] [/ame] ^All I have to say on that matter. ^Hah nope defs does not sound like CM, Kanye West would say that though bahahaha... The man. Also in terms of the sound... I reckon it could have the build up of Christmas lights. Just looking at how Chris Martin wrote the lyrics, how the first few lines all progressively deviate and then center again... It could indicate a change in sound. A lot of analysis there yes, but what else are you going to do when waiting for a new CP song for a week? :)
  9. Haha reminds me of this: http://www.nme.com/news/daily-gossip/53785 Way I see it, without the Beetles there would be no Coldplay. Without Elvis there would be no Beatles. Without soul & blues there would be no Elvis. If you're interested in how artists influence each other, and how ideas overlap in general- I highly recommend you watch this short web series: http://everythingisaremix.info/watch-the-series/
  10. Hmmmm sounds good, but I doubt this is it. It almost sounds too much like Coldplay. Might be that there's an instrumental with the same name. Skyfall's soundtrack for example had the song 'Skyfall' by Adele, as well as 'Skyfall' the instrumental by Thomas Newman. One thing I love about how this song its being released is that there weren't weeks of teasers or hints or anything. Just BOOM we've got a new song in 2 weeks. That's more like it!
  11. I always say I'll wait until I've bought it but end up listening to the leak
  12. I've spent all day basically trying to imagine what sound they're going to go for... Paradise and PoC were both pop songs, but I can't imagine this song following that direction. I'd love it if it had dramatic strings like Moving to Mars. Also I think if this song charts well that Coldplay will have a shot at an Oscar... they certainly won't have as much competition as there was for this year's Oscar, I think
  13. Good point! I also hope it'll have a Moving to Mars sound, just epic. It might just be mid-tempo. I don't think it'll be quiet though- the lyrics 'We're about to explode' makes it seem like we can expect a big sound.
  14. Lucky for you, the song is being released months before the movie!
  15. God I love this one too. Before this Paradise was the best name for a song but Atlas... has to take the cake. Unlike Every Teardrop is A Waterfall Us Against the World Don't Let it Break Your Heart It's short, it's original... and it just feels cool to say 'Atlas'.
  16. Hah, kinda weird that they're making a song for a movie- glad it's for Hunger Games and not Twilight or any of those other vampire movies. Though I have to say Muse did a decent job [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTvgnYGu9bg]MUSE - Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube[/ame] ^ At least we know the lyrics aren't this cheesy haha.
  17. Glad you liked it! Firstly, did not think any one else would have listed The Phoenix Foundation in this... very impressed, Italian Plastic! 1) Bright Grey, The Phoenix Foundation - I saw them live about a month ago, in a really intimate venue, it was a great show. My favourite New Zealand band! They can produce some magic at times. 2) The Golden Age- The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - Saw it in a Heineken ad a while ago 3) Girl Panic, Duran Duran -one of their newish songs. 4) Thunder Road, Bruce Springsteen 5) My Sweet Lord, George Harrison - Hmmm definitely has a religious element to it, but that guitar solo gets me every time! 6) Rock & Roll, The Velvet Underground 7) Severene, Thomas Newman- You would have heard this one in Skyfall, that whole soundtrack is breathtaking. 8) Intro, M83 9) Fine Line, Paul McCartney- Not exactly an oldie, this one was from the 00's I think. 10) Lighthouse, Newvillager- Not everyone's cup of tea! Worth a few listens though. 11) A Bad Dream, Keane 12) Breaking Down, Florence + The Machine (acoustic) - Not sure why I posted the acoustic version now, it is beautiful but I reckon listen to the normal version. My favourite from 'Ceremonials' 13) Wings, Haerts - I don't know anything about this band, but this song is the bomb. It reminds me of a modern day version of Fleetwood Mac. 14) Sticks & Stones, Jonsi - the song that plays at the end of How to Train Your Dragon! I'm glad you liked it! I did underestimate your music knowledge I must say, and next time I'll be more hipster haha. For anyone interested in these songs, here's a Spotify Playlist of all the songs (except for the Jonsi one): http://open.spotify.com/user/1235950158/playlist/2Teg5WmXaNzZQA6qalXCuw Cheers
  18. So after all these reviews... what if each person picks one song from their mixtape (the one that was made for them) and we combine all the selected tracks in one big Coldplaying Summer 2013 Mixtape? That's something I'd be very interested to listen to :)
  19. Mixtape Review, Summer 2013 This is the first time I’m taking part in the mixtape challenge! My mix came with a cool artwork and a note saying it accompanied a fanfiction about My Little Pony. This had me worried- I have not seen a single episode of that show in my life. This playlist however is pretty damn good. Track 1: Greenday maybe? Hmmm well I’m not the biggest fan of that band, so I didn’t enjoy it all that much. There’s a pretty good guitar solo in there? Track 2: No idea who this is… I like it though- some bittersweet verses leading into a cheerful chorus. Track 3: Sounds familiar... but I have no clue who this is! Down to earth and uplifting. Track 4: ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’, Labrinth :D God knows songs like these made me love R&B again. One of my top 10 songs from 2012 probably. Track 5/ Track 6: NOW WE’RE TALKING! Imagine Dragons, ‘It’s Time’. Gotta love those lyrics, such a great rhythm too. This song is followed by a pleasant, short instrumental (I’m assuming by Imagine Dragons?) and adds a nice contrast to the upbeat songs before it. Track 7: Stumped. No idea who this is by, but I love it instantly! I played it twice actually. Those lyrics are brilliant; ‘Show me what this life is for…’ the sort of lyrics that get stuck in my head quite easily. Great beat, and very emotional. Track 8: ‘Hall of Fame’ by The Script and will.i.am- hmmmmm. One of those songs that get overplayed quite easily I think- though there’s no denying it’s a decent song. Track 9: Oh yes. ‘Love Somebody’ by Maroon 5. So danceable, so catchy, so good. ‘Overexposed’ seems to be a source of endless hits for Maroon 5… Track 10: Another one I’ve never heard before- it’s got my thumbs up though. Starts with a slow tempo and good beat, builds up to a great climax! The baritone voice of the singer reminds me of Nick Cave. Track 11: Never heard this one either, and though it’s a decent song… lyrics like ‘You should never fight your feelings’ put me off a bit… I have to say I like the orchestral swell in that chorus. Track 12: This playlist is officially awesome; OneRepublic ‘Feel Again’. I’ve been listening to this and ‘Counting Starts’ NON STOP the past few weeks! Like so many other OneRepublic songs it’s bold and moving. Great end to any playlist! I found the playlist beautifully balanced- it was quite upbeat and cheerful! I don’t know anything about the story that goes with this playlist but it’s not hard to tell that it all fits together. Though the first two songs had me a bit nervous I loved most of the songs, and found it a pleasure to listen to. Good job!
  20. Hah same here, I'd hate to be a buzzkill. Can't wait to hear my mix though!
  21. OK so took me forever to figure out exactly how to do this but I managed! Now just to figure out how to upload it somewhere... Can we just send it to our person as soon as its ready? Edit: hah OK I just read the rest of the thread... sorry! Will get it uploaded tomorrow sometime. So excited!!!
  22. Techinically MX was recorded in a waaayyyy shorter amount of time. They were going to do an all acoustic album and then decided on a more electronic sound. Even with the same songs that transformation would have involved a great deal of work, and I'm pretty sure they did it in under a year. I think the songs could be affected by the shorter period, but not in a bad way necessarily. I just hope they don't tease us as long as they did last time. They should just be like HOV and go 'Yo, album in like, 2 weeks' BOOM. That would make me happy.
